		<description>Gosh Roo: &quot;Workers who don&#039;t have to worry endlessly about the welfare of their loved ones will be able to focus on their industry/productivity.&quot;

Isnt that what Maslow said? If you are always worried about food, shelter and safety, it is really hard to be self actualized.

I think the last thing elected officials in this country want are self actualized voters.

<description>What&#039;s the point of us working our asses off to create wealth if the CEO&#039;s get to take it all to Club Med or wherever? I&#039;d be more inclined to create it if more of it got redistributed!

<description>Reading the piece, I came to similar conclusion. Redistribution of wealth by the government is not inherently a bad thing, but the process has been politicized and plundered too much by special interests. The process need to be reinvigorated, recipients need to be better targetted, and the taxpayers must be reminded that &quot;an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.&quot; After all, tax is the price we pay for civilized society. And drawing analogy from today&#039;s market economy, you get what you pay for.

<description>Redistribution of wealth CAN be used as means of wealth creation, by channelling it into things that support the workforce, esp. at the lower rungs: affordable childcare, basic yet universal medical benefits, guaranteed quality education, soft loans for aspiring entrepreneurs, etc. Workers who don&#039;t have to worry endlessly about the welfare of their loved ones will be able to focus on their industry/productivity. A person&#039;s health is never for sale.

<description>Horst Weasel? I am not black, hispanic, catholic or lazy.

I AM white a single dad, and a bit more concerned with my own dignity than my boss&#039;s profit margin.

<description>Capitalism is a good thing. But out of control capitalism is evil incarnate.

Welcome to evil incarnate.

Money is the root of all evil.

Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.

This is where America finds itself. It is ONLY government reguation and yes redistribution of wealth that holds this already sick nation back from full fledged feudalism. Remove the &quot;interference&quot; of government and you will see employers (the root definition of employers is users) continue to exploit those who actually make and do.

Bottom line is government forces (and this is a GOOD THING) employers to at least pretend to pay and play fair. Remove that and its a dog eat dog race to lick the masters boot. Now I know this gives the bootlickers a leg up. But bootlicking is a skill I was not taught. I doubt I shall ever learn it. I&#039;ll certainly not teach it to my kid.

So if such as Mr. Dionne and his ilk ultimately win out, I will learn, practice and teach the art of head thumping.

<description>I agree with him 100%. You must create wealth and not force re-distribute it like communism and socalism.

Education is very important, but so is opportunity. You create opportunity by removing barriers that stiffle opportunity.

Overbearing regulations, complicated tax codes, unionization, corruption, and many other complications of life that make opportunity in America much more difficult for the common person.

For instance, lets look at some basic service industry jobs, such as a hair stylist and flower arranger. Here in Kansas, you have to be licenced to cut hair and to be licenced, you have to go through a 2 year school, which is very expensive. In many states, you have to be licenced to do flower arrangment.

Government does have a vested interest in making sure people who perform certain duties are qualified, but many of it is a protectionist agenda to keep other people from entering the industry and forming competition.

For example, in Kansas, you have to have a Masters Degree in Accounting to be licenced as a CPA, some states only require a bachelors degree. But the reason why it&#039;s in place, is because they want less competition, disgused as a qualification process. They should let the markets determine that.

Most licences are only given through associations and orginizations such as the AMA, ABA (state equivalant), KSBOA, and etc.

Qualification is important, but overbearing obsticals for the average person to enter a profession for the purpose of limiting the number of people into that field is wrong.

Same goes with teaching. You can have a Math major, but can&#039;t teach because you have to go through a teaching program, but a math teacher only needs to know very basic math to teach it, but a Math Major would be a very valuable asset, because they would teach math much better.

The teaching requirements is just a union protectionist system. If we want better teachers and cut the shortage of them, remove the barriers of the teaching certificate that are only granted to education grads.
