Some 45 percent of all Republicans say they are “very happy,” compared with 30 percent of Democrats, according to an annual survey by the Pew Research Center. And it’s not because Republicans tend to be wealthier; Republicans are happier than Democrats in all income categories, the survey found. Republicans also aren’t just happy because they control all three branches of government; Republicans have been happier every year since the survey began in 1972.

Like many Republicans. They have lives and they care about things beyond politics.
Democrats are never happy. All they care about is a handout, keeping people miserable and poor, and make smiling a crime.
Research proves it! :)
That is why I would never be a leftist Democrats. I would have to shoot myself just to live in the misery that Democrats force themselves into.
Sucks to be them.
Proof Positive: Ignorance is bliss.
“As long as we’re rich and get everything we want politically, screw everybody else in this country.”
A Republican acquaintance of mine.
I wonder if there is a way to tax happiness. Make those Republicans pay for being happy at the expense of those who are not.
Joe,Share the secret, how does a self-proclaimed low wage earning Republican keep so happy and perky? Inquiring minds want to know.
Happiness predicated on willful ignorance is no happiness at all. Lest there be any doubt about who lives a more fully human life, the complacent Repukes or Democrats, for what it’s worth, here’s John Stuart Mill’s take on this very question, from Chapter Two of “Utilitarianism:”
“Few human creatures would consent to be changed into any of the lower animals, for a promise of the fullest allowance of a beast’s pleasures; no intelligent human being would consent to be a fool, no instructed person would be an ignoramus, no person of feeling and conscience would be selfish and base, even though they should be persuaded that the fool, the dunce, or the rascal is better satisfied with his lot than they are with theirs.
“A being of higher faculties requires more to make him happy, is capable probably of more acute suffering, and certainly accessible to it at more points, than one of an inferior type; but in spite of these liabilities, he can never really wish to sink into what he feels to be a lower grade of existence. We may give what explanation we please of this unwillingness…but its most appropriate appellation is a sense of dignity, which all human beings possess in one form or other, and in some, though by no means in exact, proportion to their higher faculties, and which is so essential a part of the happiness of those in whom it is strong, that nothing which conflicts with it could be, otherwise than momentarily, an object of desire to them.
It is indisputable that the being whose capacities of enjoyment are low, has the greatest chance of having them fully satisfied; and a highly endowed being will always feel that any happiness which he can look for, as the world is constituted, is imperfect…IT IS BETTER TO BE A HUMAN BEING DISSATISFIED THAN A PIG SATISFIED; better to be Socrates dissatisfied than a fool satisfied. And if the fool, or the pig, are a different opinion, it is because they only know their own side of the question. The other party to the comparison knows both sides.”
That’s for Joe Williams, and smug, complacent, greedy Repukes like him.
CF,
Wow, that was beautiful.
A Reagan allegory is telling here.
Ronald Reagan told a story given him by his handlers.
In the story, a man has two kids. One is always happy no matter what. The other is always unhappy.
In the story, the unhappy child is given a room full of toys. But the child is still unhappy and suspiocious. The toys may at any time be take away.
(To me this child is WISE! How much we have lost in trusting the toys bush has given us)
Ahhh but then there is the ‘happy child” He is given in the story a room full of manure. He happilly tosses and plays in the manure. When asked why he says “Well with all this horseshit, I know there is a pony in here somewhere!”
So……..the unhappy…..the ever questioning……..these are the folks best listened to.
Now the folks like Joe Williams…….well. Joe? embrace the manure! Just don’t expect me to do so. Just because you can smle while eating Sh.. doesnt mean I gotta like it. Just because you love the misery of being a tool, does not follow I share your same …………servility.
Well said CF
JR? Don’t soak your tears on my shoulder. I don’t listen to fantical leftist. Hell is just not appealing to me.
In light of what the Gospels admonish, heaven (at least the Christian version of it) doesn’t appeal to you, either.
Nope! I’m an atheist. I control my own faith.
If heaven exist, it sure isn’t in leftist thinking. Because if it was, you guys would be happy and walking the streets of gold. I don’t see it.
Take another shot of Vodka. Maybe it will show you the way.
Vodka, that’s his secret. Shrubs is burbon. See any connections?
The key is the greedy 10% selling manure to the 40% who are perfectly described as “willfully ignorant”
And the 50% who force the “willfully ignorant” and the “greedy” to give them the greatest share of the manure. You know! For the public good.
Game time! out of the bloggers on this thread, pick out the nitwit.
Republicans are happy?!?!?They’re the most hateful people there are. They hate anybody different, they hate gays, they hate Democrats. But it’s like I’ve always said, Republicans have to have someone to hate to be happy.
I think republicans are going to have a whole lot less to be happy about in a few months.
Looks like more americans are agreeing with those unhappy dems about national security. I guess you missed the results of this poll joe. It shows that democrats in congress are rated higher now on national security than the preznit.
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/2006/February%20Dailies/Dubai%20Ports.htm
Check out the poll results on the left!!
It makes sense that democrats are a bit more unhappy, we have our eyes more open to the real issues and all the problems caused by this administration. The majority of Republicans live in ignorant bliss and just believe whatever they’re told by Bush&Co, Rush, etc. It’s easy to be happy when you put on the blinders, refuse to think for yourself, and choose not to live in the real world.
Alfred P. Newman of “Mad” comic books always struck me as happy too . . . for the same reason Republicans are: “if it’s not happening to me, I don’t care . . . “
Also, notice how the survey was set up: it didn’t measure “happiness” in any real sense–it measured perceived happiness and the willingness to report feeling less-than-happy.
It may very well be that Democrats are more self-perceptive and honest about their putative “happiness.”
True, Lib. I don’t know any Republican that doesn’t enjoy living in a state of denial. Life is so much easier that way.
Damoon, I know you worked with psych patients. Arent people who live in a delusional (fantasy) world of their own creation usually happy with that world?
Great question ksfarmgrrl.
I thought that the people who post always argue about the questions asked during the survey? What … where is the doubting of statistics when the numbers suit them?
How can anyone but someone who is delusional be happy with the current administration.
Let’s do the same survey after the 06 election.
Ah, gentle people,
I’m happy. Unapologetically happy! Now, there are several reasons for my happiness, I dare say that my politics has very little to do with it.
First of all, I think to be happy you must take responsiblity for your happiness. You are responsible for your life. No one else. If you are unhappy, bored and disastisfied with your lot in life I think that you are merely lazy.
I’ve always been pretty happy. Oh, I’ve had sorrows and joy in my life, but generally I’m happy. Nothing to do with my financial situation or my politics. In fact, I think that I’m a republican because I’m pretty much self sufficient and happy.
Most unhappy people I know are unhappy because their priorities are wrong. What are your priorities? What is the most important thing in yoiur life right now? What is the second most important thing? How do you want to be remembered? What would you like to have on your tombstone when you die? If you had your friends and family each write an epitaph, would it be similar to the one you would write? If so, you are probably fulfilled and happy.
Hank
They have changed the world according to their grand design. This included less security, less prosperity (for the masses), more corporate welfare, and have all but completely discredited science in favor of superstition. They damn well better be happy! In 5 years they have completely screwed up the country more than they could have hoped to.
I used to be astupid partsan republican but I am much happier now that I am a White Nationalist. Our corrupt, zionist controlled “two party” system needs to be blown up so that we can start fresh!
“An unsophisticated forecaster uses statistics as a drunkenman uses lamp-posts – for support rather than for illumination.” ….. Andrew Lang
Both Republicans and Democrats are more alike then they are different.
But choosing sides and disdaining the other is what we now know as politics in America.
You can choose your side and stay in your trenches. I’ll go out and roam the countryside and the battlefield and see it from all sides.
I aggree Joe! Most democrats that I know are pretty normal people. I believe that they are the ones that pretty much live in ignorance though. They are registered democrats but they don’t really pay too much attention past the headlines. They are really too good for politics. If you try to engage them in any meaningful debate you soon find that there is not much substance to their political beliefs.
Now the democrats/liberals/nuts that post on this BLOG are the exception. They are like the monkeys in the monkey house at the zoo. Only in this case they are in a cage of their own choosing. Take JR for instance, he is the baboon, when you first walk in, he seems to be interesting, but get to close to his cage, or try and engage him in any meaninful debate and you soon learn that all he has to offer is little balls of shit.
Now to be fair, most of the liberals here don’t have that much poop in front of their cages, but their preconcieved notions and bias about republicans will always keep their cage bars in place. Plus, you never hear them complain about the crap in front of the baboon’s cage. But let a repubican throw it back and the clatter and clammer in the monkey house becomes almost unbarable!
Hank
Hank change democrat and republican in your post and you will know the view of the other side.
A self-serving and juvenile analogy from Hank? Fancy that.
Dear k,
There isn’t a doubt in my mind that is your view, but I genereally try to respond without all of the crap.
Hank
Ah CF,
A little response from the baboon cage! Glad to see you’re up and about today!
Hank
Ever notice how a drooling cretin smiles all the time? Idiots and morons always seem to have a smile on their face. I see a parallel.
Dear XXX,
We’re talking about happy people, not Schumer and Dean.
Hank
Joe writes–”But choosing sides and disdaining the other is what we now know as politics in America.”
As a political science major, you didn’t study Burr shooting Hamilton dead in a duel? You didn’t study the Civil War? You didn’t study Teddy Rooseveldt abandoning the Republicans and running on his own ticket? Nixon’s impeachment?
All this “our country is so divided” rhetoric glosses over a lot of US history, mostly divisive.
Hank, I have to agree with your views on happiness, but your anology between the dems and the monkeys is way off base. Democrates seem to be more focused on the needs of others, while many repubs seem only concerned for themselves and lining their own pockets. Sure, not all democrates are on the up and up, but NO ONE is surprised when a right wing, religious, hypocrital republican is on the take. It just seems to go with the territory.
Hank,
Like Cheney for instance. There’s a little ray of sunshine every time you see him.
“Lord, what fools these mortals be.”–Shakespeare’s Puck in “Midsummer Night’s Dream.”
Hank, you miss the point.
Why am I not surprised…..
Pure vitriole in here man, why don’t the Dems and Repubs just make love to each other? Then we’d all get along!
Damoon. It is explained as easily as you stated.
Democrats = Care for others
Republicans = Care about themselves
Of course with a mixture of inbetween, but the weight of it all is correct.
Do I care about others? To a point. Do I care about myself more? You betcha!
Not for sure which is the moral superority. Maybe its caring for the welfare of others. But nature is best in survival of the fittess. That means taking care of yourself.
The world is cruel, it will always be that way. I doubt utopia will ever set in the human world. Since we cannot legislate morality, as the famous saying goes, why not default back to what nature does. Only the strongest survive.
I help people when they need it. But to me, helping in the Democrats way of helping, you are only making people take advantage of you and you are treating people like kept pets that must be cared for and feed by the government.
“There isn’t a doubt in my mind that is your view, but I genereally try to respond without all of the crap.” -Hank
And you do this when????
Why Mr. K,
I think my previous post to you was with out invective, name calling and in general ‘crap’.
Love ya,
Hank
Dear XXX,
I did not miss your point, I chose to ignore it.Keep rolling them little balls, I’ll watch where I step.
Hank
Dear Damoon,
I do disagree with you. I know that you probably don’t know the political persuasion of most of your neighbors, but its been my experience that the ones most involved in the neighborhood and the ones that are most involved in helping others in the community are republicans.
This would be a good topic in person, since I won’t name names here in the monkey house!
Hank

That Horst poster is just Proudlib taking up yet another pseudonym in his attempt to make the right look bad.
Are you kidding Hank!?! There nothing BUT Repubicans out here!! I’ll bet I’m the one and only Democrat (there is one other person out here that didn’t vote for Bush, now that I think of it), even my own husband is a registered Republican who voted for Bush (we almost divorced over it by the way!). Do you know how hard it was for me to stand in line with all of you on election day and listen to the right wing bulls**t? The neighbors who volunteer on work day do it because they benefit directly from it, not out of their concern for their fellow man. The only thing people out here seem to care about their meticulously manicured lawns, and God help the ones who don’t make yard work the biggest priority in their lives. No Hank, as far as I can see, people out here don’t seem too in touch with the needs of the less fortunate, that wouldn’t fit into their perfect little sheltered world.
Damoon,
Be fair please, my wife and I both voted for Pat Buchanan and I know of at least two local White Nationalists who voted for Nader.
Viva La Raza Blanco!!
Dear Damoon,
You would be very surprised if you looked at the records downtown. I did when I ran for office in ‘92 and ‘94. Also, I wasn’t merely talking about ‘workday’. Do you know that republicans out hee volunteer for the “Lord’s Diner”? That some of them vounteer for and donate to many of the charities in town? I play poker out here with some of the richest of our neighbors and most of them are republicans and most of them are envolved with more things that give back to the community (not our neighborhood per se) than you would ever know, because you don’t hear about it from them.
Hank
I happen to live next door to those that volunteer at the Lord’s Diner, I volunteered with them there for a while, too. I DO appreciate my neighbors (you included, Hank), everyone’s always willing to help each other when there is a need. But there is also a lot of narrow mindedness and prejudice, which comes from living exclusively in a lily white world.
“The difference between democrats and republicans is that democrats blow and republicans suck.”
An Independent friend of mine.
As a percentage of income, middle class people gives more money to charity than the rich do. Rich people do get more for their bucks – parties, naming opportunities, etc. I don’t think any of us can fairly compare Rs and Ds in terms of charity. Republicans and Democrates give, but they usually give to charities that reflect their political/social views.

Okay, translate that into standard English . . . wait, don’t.
I don’t give a sh*t . . .
We all know you are a racist person Proudlib. Along with Ian Santiago.
Since you are a staunch proud Socialist and a racisit, are you upset at the arrest of your kind in Orlando?
http://www.wftv.com/news/7442292/detail.html
My American Indian grandfather would be surprised to find out that I’m racist . . . you dumb ass.
Hank, aren’t you the cunning one? Man, I’m sooo impressed with your “monkey house” rant. I’ll bet you’ve spent a lot of time studying “little balls” (your own). I know you’re not very creative, so lets hear another monkey comment. It brings so much to the discussion.
I see a simpler reason for the disparity between the happiness of Democrats and Republicans.
http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2004-06-02-religion-gap_x.htm
This is a link shown to a USA Today article that shows the dramatic differences between church attendance between conservatives and moderates compared to liberals. I think that for purposes of discussion we can equate Republicans with conservatives and Democrats with liberal, with a mix of both in the moderate category. If you will Google the subject, you will find many examples of studies that demonstrate that people who attend church regularly are happier than those who don’t. I would argue that this is where the statistical difference lies, not in political parties.
This will not surprise people of faith. Many of us cannot envision a life in which we did not believe that God was in control. We believe that if you yield your will to that of God, you will find a peace and thus greater happiness than if you believe that you are tossed about by random forces. So if you’re looking for happiness, maybe you should be searching for God. Just a suggestion.
Dear XXX,
Just trying to get the debate to a level you’ll understand. What was this thread about again?
Hank
Hmmm . . . you’ve got a point there, Outlander.
That may indeed be a cause-and-effect relationship.
I wonder what this survey would show on a country-by-country basis . . .
I’d be happy if Galahad would start posting again. No one here is as superior as he.
You’re right Steve,
Of all the baboons in the monkey house he had the reddest ass.
Hank
I don’t know-It makes it sound like Marx was right about the opiate of the masses thing.
Dear Damoon,
In another thread you asked me if there was anything that Bush had ever done that I disagreed with. Earlier in the thread I had responded to ksfarmgrrl that there was a bunch, and I gave a few examples.
I then asked you if there was any thing that he had ever done that you agreed with. You talk about “narrow mindedness and prejudice” in reference to republicans but you’ve never answered my question.
Your posts in all most every instance shows you to be irrationally anti Bush and anti republican. In fact, your posts consistantly are almost the perfect example of someone that comes to the discussions with a narrow mind and ingrained prejudice.
So, I ask again, is there any policy or action of good ol’ GW that you have ever aggreed with?
Just wondering!
Hank
I am not sure whether to be offended or flattered.
A poster to these blogs who I no longer acknowledge chooses to single me out for attack.
Now it does not take much knowledge of these blogs to know “who” I am talking about. And for the record I have repeatedly challenged this poster who uses at least two nics to open debate. But as that poster uses multiple nics and phony email addresses…..I relegate that poster to the anonymity of citing “His?” duplicity without naming any of his multiple nics personally.
Of course “he”does recognize himself in my post here. And though I have serious reservation as to the status of this poster as anything resembling a “gentleman” I invite this person to a gentlemans settlement.
Ah but as ever I get back to the point of the blog. And so we see from a self proclaimed, but strangely anonymous! proponent of the GOP the very truth of what those folks are. They are happily evil and hiding in the shadows. Their anonymity lends in their attacking others covertly and in every way of life. They sit in the shadows, and conveniently blame suffering on the sufferer.
But time runs out for these folk. You can only rejoice just so long in your ability to piss in the wind, til folks downwind start to get riled at the fallout and come looking for you.
I’d say that is just about where the GOP is just about now. Or at least certain elements of it.
LOL
I have not heard anything like that since grade school JR.
“A poster to these blogs who I no longer acknowledge chooses to single me out for attack.
Now it does not take much knowledge of these blogs to know “who” I am talking about.”
LOL
Grow up.
Hank, obviously you don’t read my posts, I did reply to your question. Because you are my friend I will repeat myself, but just this once.I thought that when Bush dressed up pretended to be a fighter pilot and flew to meet with the troops on that aircraft carrier in order to serve them turkey on Thanksgiving, that was cool. And I forgot to mention the time he was reading to the preschools while terrorists were attacking us, but he waited to finish the book before he responded to the crisis. He was just being very thoughtful to those little kids, and that was so cute.Other than that, I can’t think of anything he’s done that I would appreciate or agree with.Like I said before, I think he should go play his next golf game in Iraq.
Sorry for the typos, It’s too early for me.
I’m a D and proud of it.I was a lot happier six years ago when I was making 6k a year more than I am now.
I know this will set off a firestorm, since we all know christians here cant take any criticism. But I refuse to be cowed by christian bullying.
Outlander, maybe those who dont attend church are unhappy partly because you all constantly make our lives difficult by pushing your personal beliefs and fantasy on the rest of us. And by instituting laws that make it very difficult for us “non-churchies” to pursue life, liberty, and happiness in a manner that suits us and does not harm you all.
If you were forced to live under our arbitrary rules, based on the Flying Spagetti Monster, you would be unhappy too!
It is very difficult, and it takes a great deal of strength and courage to not drink the Khristian Koolaide in Kansas. We pay for our freedom and refusal to drink every day. And it isnt god that makes us pay. It is man.
Everyone likes to be superior to someone, and yes, we chafe with your foot on our collective neck.
But, just another angry post, dontcha know. Calling us angry is another cheap excuse to not listen to anyone who disagrees with the majority mob.
Talk about disparaging the messanger…how easy to dismiss words that are hard to hear.
If some of you want to remake govt in the image of your faith, and you want to live amongst like minded people, you might consieder this:
http://www.teambio.org/2006/02/christian-group-seeks-to-take-over-south-carolina/#more-2771
Some of us would be glad to take up a collection for your moving expenses….
Well said, farmgrrl.
Sorry Damoon,
I missed your answer. But it does make my point. You seem to have an irrational dislike for everything republican and Bush.
Hank
Is marriage a right?
Dear ksfarmgrrl,
You have every right to be upset with outlander. His post is a perfect example of Christian bullying! What an outrageous post, how dare he!
And you might try some Goldbond on that chafing of your neck.
Hank
Do heterosexual people have a “RIGHT” to be married???
CruX,
Most people in my circle would tell you that marriage is not a right, but a sentence, be it homo or hetero. Being married myself, I often found myself in agreement. :)
“but your analogy between the dems and the monkeys is way off base.”
Damoon,
I wouldn’t be so sure about that. Have you seen the Congressional black Caucus? rotflmosrfao
Viva La Raza Blanco!!
Hank, Outlander’s post was not bullying. That happened the other day in here, and went on for a day after the original postings were made.
Given the likelyhood it would happen again, I seriously thought about not replying to Outlander’s post because I didnt want to set off another round of stupidity. Then I realized, that is just what the offenders wanted. No more open criticism of christianity. So I decided to post in the face of what might follow.
I am not a bedwetter. I will not be bullied.
You gotta be a little bit loopy to support the man that said this about the non-existant threat from Iraq –
“Facing clear peril, we cannot wait for the final proof, the smoking gun that could come in the form of a mushroom cloud.”
The third anniversary of Operation Never-ending War is coming up in two weeks.
Laugh at that, Republicans.
Laugh at that.
I think a lot of these Republicans are “more than happy,” if you know what I mean.
They’re wacky happy, slap-happy, cuckoo-for-cocoa-puffs happy.
I’M HAPPY BECAUSE I CHOOSE TO BE. I’M HAPPY BECAUSE I CONTROL HOW I INTERACT WITH MY SURROUNDINGS. I’M HAPPY BECAUSE I HAVE FREE WILL TO CHOOSE MY RELIGION, MY POLITICAL AFFILIATION, MY ATTITUDE, MY FRIENDS, MY BELIEFS, MY RELATIONSHIPS, AND BECAUSE I CHOSE CHRISTIANITY AND ITS COMMITMENTS. BASH ME ALL YOU WANT, I’M HAPPY BECAUSE I LIVE IN THE GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD, FOUNDED ON TEH GREATEST PRINCIPLES.
FINALLY I’M HAPPY BECAUS EI GET TO READ THIS BLOG AND LAUGH MY BUTT OFF AT THE STUPIDITY OF ARGUING ABOUT THIS TOPIC. KEEP IT UP GUYS IT MIGHT LAST ME FOR A COUPLE OF MORE DAYS.
PS I KNOW THAT IT IS ALL CAPS, CAN’T HELP BUT YELL I’M SO HAPPY
YES I KNOW THERE WERE TYPOS, JUST DON’T CARE BECAUSE………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………I’M SO HAPPY
scott, does happy pills make you deaf that you need to shout?
Dear ksfarmgrrl,
I understand, it was merely a pre-emptive strike in case the mean ol’ Christians that cause so much hate and discontent around here started to feel froggy.
Good on you! Nothing like flaming someone under an assumed name to make one feel in control of their life!
Elouise
DON’T NEED PILLS CUZ I’M HIGH ON LIFE
Then if marriage is not a “right”, why do homosexuals believe themselves to have the “right” to marry?
Answer that, I dare you.
Yes Hank, I have a dislike for Republicans and Bush, but an IRRATIONAL dislike? I don’t think so. My reasons for disliking them seem perfectly rational to me.
Dear Damoon,
Of course your reasons seem rational to you! But any reasonable person can’t possibly look at president Bush and not come up with something they could like.
President Clinton annoyed me. I thought he was a disgrace to the office, but I didn’t hate him. I worked to get him out of office. Still there were some things I liked about him. There were actually some of his foreign policies that I agreed with.
But you and some of the other posters on these BLOGs never have anything good to say about Bush. When I asked you a direct question you used it as an opportunity to be cute. When ksfarmgrrl asked me if there was anything that I didn’t like about Bush I gave her a few examples. I don’t think Bush is conservative in my definition of the word. If I disagree with him, I write my congressman or senator. I don’t post it here.
Now, the reason I take the time to go into this is to merely point out tht if you can’t find one thing to agree with the president about, if you think that every thing he does is wrong, then you have no credibility. People will cease to be interested in any thing you have to say about Bush, because you have become predictable. In short, irrational.
Then when you say you have a dislike for republicans and some of the other general statements that you make about republicans that makes you a bigot. Now I don’t think you really are a bigot, in fact, I know that you probably like and admire a lot of republicans, even love one evidently! Therefore, your statements that consistantly defame repubicans are further proof that you are irrational when it comes to politics.
I still love ya though! You got home about 30 minutes too late on Sunday to get a ride in my new surrey. I had just put it up when you got home.
Hank
Hank, I have no idea what you are talking about. Flaming someone under an assumed name? Elouise?
Ksfarmgrrl is my screen name, but I dont post under any other names. I am not smart enough to keep my lies straight. Is someone pretending to be me?
Sorry if you think standing up as a non-christians and refusing to be bullied is flaming.
My post was not directed to you ksfarmgrrl and did not disparage you or other unbelievers in any way. I am sorry that you think you have to say something negative whenever God is mentioned (so you can show you won’t be bullied?).
Personally, I think that is a little over the top. You know, ksfarmgrrl, I’ve heard it said that there is a God-sized hole in everyone’s heart, whether they know it or not. But I’ll stop now before I am accused of chafing someone’s neck.
Out,Don’t even bother with that one, she thinks every heterosexual is out to stomp on her rights. Gone off the deep end, I’d say.
Don’t worry be GOP?
How about this:
Wear it on your sleeve! Just where did all those bush bumper stickers go?
Proudly proclaim your love of bush and the gop!
Or…..are ya just a little concerned that that might bring you some unhappiness?:)
Bush is a complete disgrace to the office of presidency. I don’t care if that makes me “unreliable or irrational” to Hank.
Goldwater, I disagreed with but respected. William F. Buckley, ditto.
Bush I have no respect for. In Florida in 2000, he worked with Jeb to throw voters off the voter rolls. He stalled and stymied the state-mandated recount and did everything he could, NOT TO ARRIVE AT THE FAIREST OUTCOME, but to make sure he won.
After 9-11, he cynically used terrorism to invade Iraq and take out Saddam, a plan he supported since at least 1998.
In light of scandal after scandal, he “just can’t remember.” Ken Lay, his close Texas pal? Bush’s baseball team played at ENRON FIELD, you know, that Ken Lay, the one Bush called ‘Kenny Boy’? Nope, Bush can’t remember ever meeting him . . . Same with Jack Abramoff. “Jack who?” Republican’s biggest fund raiser? Nope . . . nothing there.Sell ports to UAE? No, Bush knew nothing about it . . . wait, yes he did, but it was secret so he didn’t know.
Nobody could have foreseen ______ (fill in the blank) the 9-11 attack, Hurricane Katrina, the continuing and mounting unrest in Iraq, the spiraling national debt under the tax cuts . . .
The man is just one disaster and lie and excuse after another.
When you present things in such a misconstrued and deceiptful way Proudlib, I can see how it is easy to think like you do.
CruX,IMHO, homos are fighting to gain the rights that COMES WITH the legality of the union, things that heteros are taking for granted. After all, marriage has ALWAYS been contractual in nature, for property, bloodlines, green cards, etc. That’s why they ask the celebrants, “Do you take …”
Roo,That’s hogwash and you know it! The benefits of marital status are not inalienable human rights. People get particular types of licenses to drive specific vehicles, just because you have an ordinary license doesn’t give you any right to drive a motorcycle or a bus. Consequently the state making it illegal for you to operate such vehicles is not a prohibition of the state on your rights, because driving is a privilege, not a right in our society. The same goes for marriage in our society! The state has authority to dissolve marriages through divorce. That is why marriage or the benefits of marital status can not be classified as “rights.”
Nice try though, Roo ;)
Wrong again, CruX. Unlike driving, marriage is NOT a priviledge, nor it is a right. It is by nature a CONTRACT. With this contract comes certain rights. I never argue that marriage IS “inalienable human rights,” as you seem to accuse me. But, if you want to use this as a bait for a shouting match, well, let’s begin!
…
And since I started it, I will end it as well!
At least Crux’s homophobia is finally out of the closet. He sure denied it for a long time, but give him enough rope and he will hang himself. I think we can all reach our own conclusions by reading his posts.
And yes, everytime you say “god is the answer” I will be responding. I think I said something earlier about refuting the same old lies. Just keep pitching them, and I will keep hitting them.
I think there is a god sized hole in many posters’ heads!!
Roo, I guess being able to get married in las vegas, while drunk on your ass, in front of an elvis impersonator is really something sacred. Couldnt debase something that sacred by letting queers do it. Oh no! The horror!!!!
Of course, something that sacred couldnt just be a civil contract. Oh no, god must bless all those unions as mentioned above.
I wonder how long it will take for someone to say “just another angry woman post”? Any bets?
ksfarmgrrl: I don’t know, it seems to me you keep whiffing. But keep after it.
Roo,homos are fighting to gain the rights that COMES WITH the legality of the union
You did say the word “rights” when you were talking about the benefits of marital status didn’t you? Because it looks like you used the term “rights”. I never said that marriage wasn’t a contract, I was merely using an analogy between the state’s authority to issue & revoke driver’s licenses with it’s authority to issue & revoke marriage licenses. My point being that since marriage is not a right, no one (and that includes homosexuals) can say that their rights are being deprived them because the state doesn’t issue marriage licenses to them, because just like you say Roo, marriage is not a right. Does this clarify my point now?
I am not interested in a shouting match, friend, just making a clean argument free from ad bacculum attacks. Hopefully you can keep your argument clean unlike some people I know… (Ks)
Ks,What happened to that ignore button? Ya forgot to hit it this morning? If you can’t contribute to a clean argument without adding superflouos and slanderous personal attacks then please take your temper-tantrums somewhere else m’kay?
Hank, I tried, but I can’t think of anything Bush has done to benefit our country. He led us into an long term war that most likely we can’t win and has made us more of a target for Islamic extremists, he’s expanded government and implemented programs that will cost us trillons, allowed government waste to go unchecked, done nothing for the environment, given tax breaks to those who don’t need it, and allowed cutbacks to programs that help the disabled and others who have nothing, done nothing to stop the flow of illegal aliens into this country and does nothing to discourage the flow of jobs out of the country, he put his friends in positions that they obviously aren’t qualified to be in, he has only given lip service to developing alternative energy sources to fossil fuels, he plays golf and goes on vacation (more than any president before him)while we’re at war and our soldiers are dying in Iraq, he’s alienated our allies and hurt our image to the rest of the world, he has absolutly no diplomatic skills and he’s put up walls to world leaders we should be trying to communicate with and influence. I’m so amazed at his incompetence that it overshadows anything positive he might have done. I can’t WAIT until he is out of office, I just hope he doesn’t do too much more damage before he’s gone. I have never felt this way about any president, not even Nixon. If that doesn’t give me any credibility, then I guess that’s just how it is.BUT……..I did enjoy the time he didn’t realize his mike was open and he called that reporter an asshole. I’m not being sarcastic this time, I REALLY did enjoy that.
It’s off thread but here goes.
Sanctity of marriage? Yeah I’m sure all 3 of Rush Limbaughs marriages were sanctified.
But Sanctimony is relevant as to why the GOP is so happy.
Probably the PERFECT marriage, (segue forward seque back) is the GOP and Evangelical religion.
If you are miserable it is your fault! If you make others miserable througn your actions, YOU ARE FORGIVEN! The marriage of the GOP and the fundies means never having to say you are sorry and having the “God given platform” to tell others how sorry they should be for their own suffering!
So how can the GOP not be happy? If they got reason to be unhappy them it is “God’s will” and they must EMBRACE their misery. And if those who are happy have a little nagging of consciuos…..well the precious blood of Jesus just washes it away!
I never interjected a religious belief or described marriage as being a sacrament, neither have I referred to marriage as having anything to do with sanctity in any of my preceding posts concerning marriage on this thread. I am speaking of marriage objectively (a trait which Ks is apparently incapable of) as a purely secular institution. I have never quoted from Scripture or from any source that could be considered “religious” literature. Your assumption that religion is behind my previous posts on the marriage issue is unwarranted. However, your insistence that everything I think, do, or say as being a product of my Christian rearing is telling of your inherent animosity towards the Christian faith and the sheer ignorance you have of Christians as people incapable of thinking for themselves.

Dear Damoon,
I think the exact words were “world class asshole”. I was kinda luke warm about a Bush presidency before then, but when he called that ashole an asshole, I knew he would be OK.
Hank
I must admit I do appreciate his sense of humor, if he wasn’t such a stupid asshole, I wouldn’t mind getting together with him for a beer.
When I grow up (snort) I want to be a lawyer. And then, I want to draw up contractual agreements that cover almost everything marriage covers (POA, child custody, estate planning, everything and anything I can think of). And then I’m going to have this neat little stack that normally costs thousands and thousands of dollars to draw up individually, and I’ll charge gay couples the cost of a marriage license (Like $35 or so?)…I won’t be able to give them all of the tax breaks and government benefits, but it’s a step in the right direction.
Hey, I wish I could avail of senior citizens discounts at 22 but I don’t think that is a “right” either. ;)
CX,I want to think of a really good, smart remark, but I’m tired and my brain hurts. So I’ll just shout”HOMOPHOBE!!” until tomorrow :)
By the way, your shameless flattery is much appreciated!
You’re WELCOME! I guess I have a thing for feisty women. :)
