Democrats hold their biggest lead over Republicans in 14 years, according to public opinion polls. Nonetheless, many are convinced they will blow it again, and have started to point fingers. “Convinced they will face another disappointment in November, Democrats are already busy figuring out who among them should be blamed for the inevitable defeat,” Dana Milbank of The Washington Post wrote in an op-ed commentary, which included a “guide for handicapping the Democratic precriminations.” His list (which has explanations for each excuse) included:
It’s Hillary’s fault.
It’s Bill’s fault.
It’s Joe Lieberman’s fault.
It’s Harry Reid’s fault.
It’s John Kerry’s fault.
It’s Al Gore’s fault.
It’s Howard Dean’s fault.
It’s Jack Murtha’s fault.
It’s Nancy Pelosi’s fault.
It’s Joe Biden’s fault.

Granted, by default the Democrats are looking the best they have since Kennedy. But it will be a defeatist attitude that will lose the election . First off hit the party and tell them to roll up their sleeves and put out a real plan on everything. Not just some lip service or the same old listing of everything that is wrong.we know there is a war, we know that Americans best and brightest are dieing, we know there is money and job problems in this country, we know that there are terrorists wanting to destroy this country.Tell me WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO DO IN DETAIL ABOUT IT!!!!!!
Second, right or wrong the name Clinton leaves a bitter taste in the mouth. After reading Richard Clarke’s book I have a new found respect for Bill Clinton, he did more for this country then Bush I or II. I am being honest though. To the moderate Republicans like myself, Hillary very name is acidic to say. Please put someone up like Edwards, if the ticket had been the other way around I would have put money on it.You need someone that everyone in the middle could vote for, if you do not and the Republican put up anyone outside G.W’s camp they could win. Right now with that R.I.N.O. Bush in office, a strong Democrat could pull the middle on both side to them.
Third, get rid of Howard Dean he is a anchor that will pull the party down with him. I believe he is a smart man but can not temper his words enough to be understood or taken seriously.
You, we need another Kennedy for this country, right now (boy this stings) against a Bush pick I would vote for Bill Clinton again!
It is the radical left-wing base of the party that will blow it. The moveon.org, Dailykos, tin-foil hat wearing paranoid conspriacy theorist, communist, terrorist appeasers, criminal prison population leftist Democrats.
There are plenty of good Democrats and Republicans have been in the spot lot of lobbyist corruption and illegal campaign finance troubles.
All in all, there is going to be no sweep in any party in 2006. All seats are safe and I don’t think it will change.
It’s like our country needs a re-start button. Keep the great things about this country in place, but delete what has become the bad. I believe that some senators and reps that have been in office forever, it seems, need a long vacation.
I agree with writedog about Edwards. I always thought that he seemed like a reasenable choice, but he on the wrong end of the ticket.
I’ll second what writdog said about the democrats approaches to problems this country faces: “Tell me WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO DO IN DETAIL ABOUT IT!!!!!!”
“All politics is local”
I don’t recall who it was that said that but it has a lot of truth. When Tiahrt defeated Glickman it was probably more over local issues than anything nationsl. So, the key to 2006 is to find good local candidates who can win in their districts and states. AFTER the 2006 elections it will become time for the Democratic Party to begin a national focus. And, the people to do that will likely be those who “beat the odds” in 2006.
Napolitano in AZ, Blogjovich in IL, Vilsack in IA etc etc. (probably mis-spelled). I think the next candidate for President needs to be a Governor.
Look at history; this country has not elected a Senator to the White House since Kennedy.
How about this: it’s their beliefs fault. People having a hard time supporting their own family arent especially interested in being required to support someone elses as well whether through taxation, lack of school choice, subsidies for offensive art or idiotic, frivolous lawsuits.
“All politics is local”
I think that is usually attributed to former speaker of the house, Tip O’Neal.
You’re forgetting, “The Republicans STOLE it, they STOLE it I tell ya!!” Whine, moan, cry.
A recent Pew Research Poll found these results to the question:
“Do you think your vote for Congress this fall as a vote for George W. Bush, as a vote against George W. Bush, or isn’t George W. Bush much of a factor in your vote?”
2006For Bush – 18%Against Bush – 31%Not a Factor – 47%
And contrast the above with the same question in2002For Bush – 34%Against Bush – 9%Not a Factor – 50%
The above from http://www.pollingreport.com
The “against” sentiment is where the biggest change is. I am not sure if the change will mean a lot, but is interesting. The sample was 1200 +, usual margin of error.
I don’t think GW is in the “radioactive” category, yet.
I am guessing, however, he will not be has helpful to Republican candidates as he was before.
I don’t know why you guys even think you have a chance.
We obviously have the voting machines rigged in the key states and the Supreme Court is in an even better spot to just hand over the election again too!
LOL
Interesting poll. I think the common wisdom is that polls asking about Congress generally reflect Democrat support while the incumbent is almost always re-elected (regardless of party). Especially in the US House.
Re-electing incumbents has probably been strengthened by all the incremental gerrymandering that’s gone on since the Republicans won control of the US House in 1994. The Republican reorganization of K Street will likely punish Dem challengers but help GOP challengers.
I tend to agree with Joe Williams here. I will be shocked if this displeasure expressed translates into a net Dem numerical gain (much less another turnover like we saw in 1994).
I went to Paul Morrison’s rally at the airport yesterday.
I’m happy to report that Phill Kline is toast.
Morrison’s co-chairs are Jill Docking, a prominent Democrat and (this is the clincher) Former Head of Kansas REPUBLICANS Mark Parkinson of Olathe.
Democrats and moderate Republicans are joining together to oust a career politician, Kline, and put in a career prosecutor, Morrison, with a 98 percent conviction rate.
Kline is toast.
Democrats and other leftists will blame the voters. When leading figures go around saying, “If you were smart you would agree with me” you can only expect to lose.

Will the Democrats self-destruct? Almost certainly, and for predictable reasons:
http://theflyoverzone.blogspot.com/2006/02/liberals-and-lemmings.html
Polls reported at:http://www.pollingreport.com/gallery.htmindicate that both McCain and Giuliani defeat both H. Clinton and Kerry by comfortable margins. I wonder if we could get Bush to run a third time — you’d have to like your chances then.
Hey, Brandon, you might consider this writing technique that schools are teaching these days–using examples.
Otherwise you just end up with a bunch of unsubstantiated generalities.
The “Flyover” blog? Oh no, my friend, this should be called the “skipover” blog.
Or “flyover” in the sense that it’s best viewed from 30,000 feet perhaps . . .

I hope so. He sucks.
Agreed…Kline needs to be retired. He has put way too much of his own views into his job.. sorta like the clown we have for mayor.
Dump em both….as well as the extremists on the BoE.
Clean house? We can hope…
