With 2008 looming, President Bush still hasn’t shown any signs of settling on a preferred successor. Maybe that’s because Vice President Dick Cheney is eyeing a run. The Washington Post’s Bob Woodward, now on his third book on the Bush administration and therefore privy to at least some of its secrets, reportedly has been telling people not to count out Cheney. “Republicans love old warhorses,” The Wall Street Journal’s Web site quoted Woodward as saying to audiences. It’s a thought. Yes, Cheney’s health is an issue. But his age shouldn’t necessarily be: Cheney just turned 65, and John McCain (still considered likely to run) turns 70 this year.

Lord, anybody but him. You think Bush is bad? Four years of Cheney would be enough to send us back to the dark ages.
Fine, as long as they put a check box for “None of the Above”!
Cheney would be a great president. But McCain would be even better. I believe Cheney will not run. He has said it over and over again.
I’m really hoping for Rice to run. :)
The Democrats don’t have anybody worth looking at. I guess Hillary has already taken the nomination although I suspect a slew of Democrats to run for the Primaries just like the last election. From what I hear, Al Gore and Kerry will most likely run again. But there is nobody so far worth looking in the D list.
Cheney’s health is too far gone (who would be his VP?) and John (I HATE BOEING) McCain would have Air Force One built in France!
Ah McCain. Known around here as the Tanker Yanker.
Getting scared now…possible matchup, Hillary v. Cheney?
Is there a “none of the above” option??
Maybe it is time to start checking out caves….and just going into hiding?
Cheney’s approval rating somewhere around 19%. That is just sad.
Twelve years of Cheney running the country is too much.
“Ah McCain. Known around here as the Tanker Yanker.”
Sucks when you’re caught cheating.
If there’s any justice in the world, Cheney will be the nominee in 08.
Let that mumbling, grumbling POS defend his administration’s actions–endless war in Iraq over nothing, historic high deficits, falling wages, rising poverty.
Please, God, let it be him.
I want to Cheney him the way he’s Cheney-ed the country.
Chaney for president and his wife for VP.Now isn’t that a disasterous combination?
In a perfect world that corrupt, evil, rutting coward Cheney would be behind bars. It is amazing that our political system keeps churning out ther very dregs of humanity to run for public office!
V.L.R.B!!
Why is Cheney considering a run; does Halliburton want to buy this country too?
I wonder if this little story might put a crimp in candidate Cheney’s run for the WH.

Could history be repeating itself? Recall that first Agnew resigned in disgrace, then Nixon resigned when impeachment was imminent.
I will catch heck for this one, but the thought of Cheney taking over after Bush. It like the second in command taking control over of Germany after HItler killed himself to me.
Don’t be insulting, Cheney is no Admiral Doenitz! lol
Viva La Raza Blanco!!
Taken from a blog site: Cheney will be Impeached along with Bush so his presidential (Dictatorship) hopes will be sunk. Hopefully he will serve jail time.

Vice President Dick Cheney’s former chief of staff, I. Lewis (Scooter) Libby, testified to a federal grand jury that he had been “authorized” by Cheney and other White House “superiors” in the summer of 2003 to disclose classified information to journalists to defend the Bush administration’s use of prewar intelligence in making the case to go to war with Iraq, according to attorneys familiar with the matter, and to court records.
According to sources with firsthand knowledge, Cheney authorized Libby to release additional classified information, including details of the NIE, to defend the administration’s use of prewar intelligence in making the case for war.
Libby specifically claimed that in one instance he had been authorized to divulge portions of a then-still highly classified National Intelligence Estimate regarding Saddam Hussein’s purported efforts to develop nuclear weapons, according to correspondence recently filed in federal court by special prosecutor Patrick J. Fitzgerald.
Beyond what was stated in the court paper, say people with firsthand knowledge of the matter, Libby also indicated what he will offer as a broad defense during his upcoming criminal trial: that Vice President Cheney and other senior Bush administration officials had earlier encouraged and authorized him to share classified information with journalists to build public support for going to war. Later, after the war began in 2003, Cheney authorized Libby to release additional classified information, including details of the NIE, to defend the administration’s use of prewar intelligence in making the case for war.
Cheney lies so much as illustrated by his statements on the show “Meet the Press”. We know that his statements were lies based upon fact. Cheney knew they were lies. He and Bush deceived the American people. Unfortunately the American people are so ignorant they will not demand that their representatives hold the Bush White House accountable for their deceptions. Deceptions which so far have cost over 2260 American soldier’s lives. But who is counting? Casinos and buildings over streams are more important.
But if Tim cares about his brand half as much as Oprah cares about hers, he should, for starters, yank back on the show Dick Cheney and make him retract a series of lies uttered on the set of Meet the Press:
It’s now public that, in fact, [Saddam] has been seeking to acquire… the kinds of tubes that are necessary to build a centrifuge. And the centrifuge is required to take low-grade uranium and enhance it into highly enriched uranium, which is what you have to have in order to build a bomb. [9/8/02]“We do know, with absolute certainty, that [Saddam] is using his procurement system to acquire the equipment he needs in order to enrich uranium to build a nuclear weapon.” [9/8/02]
“Well, I think I’ve just given it, Tim, in terms of the combination of his development and use of chemical weapons, his development of biological weapons, his pursuit of nuclear weapons… It’s only a matter of time until he acquires nuclear weapons.” [3/14/03]
“We know that he has a long-standing relationship with various terrorist groups, including the al-Qaeda organization.” [3/14/03]
“We learned more and more that there was a relationship between Iraq and al-Qaeda.” [9/23/03]
Every single one of these lies was uttered on the set of Meet the Press. So it’s not just Cheney’s credibility that’s at issue, it’s Russert’s. Does anyone now doubt what Oprah’s reaction would be if her show had been used to spread those lies?
A Cheney run? Oh Please please please! His public approval is somewhere south of root canal therapy or lunch with a CEO.
Hey how about Cheney Condi. Or Condi Cheney? Or anything Condi? The irony and utter failure of a black woman with the redneck southern vote would be kharma!
Hey how about Cheney Brownback? Their slogan could be “Your boss is right, get back to work. GOD says so”
Seriously, after the disaster that was and is bush, the only thing we see from the right is “how bad can bad get?”
Run with that one righties.
A speaking of right.
Al Gore.
I mean he WAS elected. Granted 8 years is a long time for us to redress mistakes.
No JR.. Big Al was NOT elected. He received the most popular vote.. that is not how you get elected in this country.
A story from the web. Wonder if Cheney ever took a hunter safety course. Guess he is use to shooting people and getting away with it. After all he is above the law, isn’t he?
No More Campaign contributions to Cheney from Mr. Whittington!Cheney Accidentally Shoots Fellow HunterBy LYNN BREZOSKY and NEDRA PICKLERUpdated: 9:37 p.m. ET Feb. 12, 2006CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Vice President Dick Cheney accidentally shot and wounded a companion during a weekend quail hunting trip in Texas, spraying the fellow hunter in the face and chest with shotgun pellets.
Harry Whittington, a millionaire attorney from Austin, was in stable condition in the intensive care unit of a Corpus Christi hospital Sunday.
“He is stable and doing well. It was almost like he was spending time with me in my living room,” said hospital administrator Peter Banko, who visited Whittington.Banko said Whittington was in the intensive care unit because his condition warranted it, but he didn’t elaborate.
The accident occurred Saturday at a ranch in south Texas where the vice president and several companions were hunting quail. It was not reported publicly by the vice president’s office for nearly 24 hours, and then only after it was reported locally by the Corpus Christi Caller-Times on its Web site Sunday.
Katharine Armstrong, the ranch’s owner, said Sunday that Cheney was using a 28-gauge shotgun and that Whittington was about 30 yards away when he was hit in the cheek, neck and chest.
Each of the hunters was wearing a bright orange vest at the time, Armstrong told reporters at the ranch about 60 miles southwest of Corpus Christi. She said Whittington was “alert and doing fine.”
Armstrong told The Associated Press emergency personnel traveling with Cheney tended to Whittington before an ambulance _ routinely on call because of the vice president’s presence _ took him to a hospital in Kingsville. From there, Whittington was flown by helicopter to Corpus Christi about 40 miles away.
Cheney’s spokeswoman, Lea Anne McBride, said the vice president met with Whittington at the hospital on Sunday. Cheney “was pleased to see that he’s doing fine and in good spirits,” she said.
Armstrong said she was watching from a car while Cheney, Whittington and another hunter got out of the vehicle to shoot at a covey of quail.
Whittington shot a bird and went to retrieve it in the tall grass, while Cheney and the third hunter walked to another spot and discovered a second covey.
Whittington “came up from behind the vice president and the other hunter and didn’t signal them or indicate to them or announce himself,” Armstrong said.
“The vice president didn’t see him,” she continued. “The covey flushed and the vice president picked out a bird and was following it and shot. And by god, Harry was in the line of fire and got peppered pretty good.”
Whittington has been a private practice attorney in Austin since 1950 and has long been active in Texas Republican politics. He’s been appointed to several state boards, including when then-Gov. George W. Bush named him to the Texas Funeral Service Commission.
McBride said the vice president’s office did not tell reporters about the accident Saturday because they were deferring to Armstrong to handle the announcement of what happened on her property.
Armstrong, owner of the Armstrong Ranch where the accident occurred, said Whittington was bleeding after he was shot and Cheney was very apologetic.
“It broke the skin,” she said of the shotgun pellets. “It knocked him silly. But he was fine. He was talking. His eyes were open. It didn’t get in his eyes or anything like that.
“Fortunately, the vice president has got a lot of medical people around him and so they were right there and probably more cautious than we would have been,” she said. “The vice president has got an ambulance on call, so the ambulance came.”
Cheney is an avid hunter who makes annual trips to South Dakota to hunt pheasants. He also travels frequently to Arkansas to hunt ducks, among other places.
Armstrong said Cheney is a longtime friend who comes to the ranch to hunt about once a year and is “a very safe sportsman.” She said Whittington is a regular, too, but she thought it was the first time the two men hunted together.
“This is something that happens from time to time. You know, I’ve been peppered pretty well myself,” said Armstrong.
The 50,000-acre Armstrong ranch has been in the influential south Texas family since the turn of the last century. Katharine is the daughter of Tobin Armstrong, a politically connected rancher who has been a guest at the White House and spent 48 years as director of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association. He died in October. Cheney was among the dignitaries who attended his funeral.
Cheney was legally hunting with a license he purchased in November, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department spokesman Steve Lightfoot said. The vice president flew back to Washington on Sunday evening, according to his office.

Nedra Pickler reported from Washington. Associated Press writer Paul J. Weber in Dallas contributed to this report.—–
Uh NO KS SAM Al Gore was elected. The popular majority said so. The Florida Supreme Court endeavored to curry to your archaic embrace of the electoral college, only to be thwarted by the media and the United States Supreme Court.
Funny thing……I though conservatives wantedto keep governent small and local. Ah well hypocrisy.
yeah good post Tell. I make no claim of malice on the part of the CEO in chief Cheney. Accidents do happen. But I wouldn’t bet against the idea that Cheney might be wishing he had taken Scooter Libby hunting!
LOL JR, looks like you arent gonna get a cheney thread so lets create one here!!
I guess they must have been hunting that famous orange vested, orange hatted species of quail.
