The Cisneros investigation keeps going, and going . . .

I don’t know if the Clinton administration really did try to thwart an investigation into whether former Housing Secretary Henry Cisneros evaded income taxes, as independent counsel David Barrett contends. I wouldn’t be surprised, though former officials of the Justice Department and the Internal Revenue Service dismiss that charge. But this investigation is a poster child for why Congress was wise to let the independent counsel law expire. The Cisneros inquiry began more than a decade ago and has cost about $21 million. And for what? Cisneros pleaded guilty in 1999 to a misdemeanor charge of lying to investigators (and was pardoned by President Clinton). Yet more than six years later, the investigation is still going.

That Henry was a lying dirtbag is a given. That we are still spending money in pursuit of some form of justice, for which he’s already paid, is pure stupidity. But that’s Washington.

Better put on yer ‘luminum hats.

OMG…something that was not perfect in the Clinton presidency? To read the comments posted here, Clinton was perfect in all aspects, never had a problem with the truth or scandal or anything.

This is a reminder that no president has ever been perfect.

This does not mean I am enamored with GW, just trying to bring things into perspective.

Gee Ray, you must have stayed awake all night thinking up that comment. Thanks for the amazing grasp of the obvious.

Maybe the Justice Department should refund 15 million of the 21+million wasted on this.

    Ray Thomas,

Do you ever READ the comments of left-leaning folks, or do you just project your media-driven “Clinton worshipper” fantasy on us? I’m thinking it’s the latter.

I just wish we were nearly as diligent investigating the Bush bunch – including those involved in outing Plame.

I thought the delay was caused by Democract members of Congress forcing it to be delayed and hopefully swept under the table.

It just shows that politics will remain politics.

Thanks for the tip Joe. Here is what I found on that search you suggested. This is from that liberal NYT again.

“WASHINGTON – Justice Department lawyers refused a request in 2001 from the independent prosecutor investigating former Housing Secretary Henry Cisneros to expand the inquiry to examine possible obstruction at the department during the Clinton administration, according to a final report on the matter.

The decision by the lawyers, working under former Attorney General John Ashcroft, was disclosed in the final report of the independent prosecutor, David Barrett, which was issued Thursday.”

WOW JOE!!! Clinton was behind the stifled investigation, even though this denial happened in 2001 in the BUSH DOJ!!!! And the lawyers who did it worked for that Clinton loving bastard Ashcroft?

Joe, do you actually read anything or do you just repeat your talking points without thinking?

    kansasfarmgrrrl,

Clinton is all-powerful. He is the all seeing eye in the dark tower of Lord Sauron. He is…the Clenis.

All that he touches, has touched, will touch, or could touch, bears the mark of an implacable evil.

His hideous Liberal legacy continues to govern all, in secret. And though Liberals have been out of power in the White House for six years, the House for eleven years, and the Senate for four years, THE LIBERAL POWER AND CAPACITY FOR EVIL REMAINS UNDIMINISHED.

The very existence of Liberals is a threat to America.

    Thought you’d like to know.

Hehe, funny, CF. You should definitly read Thomas Frank’s (”What’s the Matter With Kansas”) latest review in this month’s Harper’s.

He reviews Bernard Goldberg’s book “The 100 People Screwing Up America.” Needless to say the 100 people are all “liberals.”

He makes exactly that point–Goldberg’s entire book is predicated on the idea that liberals “screw up America” because of what they say. Nevermind that none of them have access to any real power to DO anything, liberal speech in and of itself is enough to “screw up” America.

    Unbelievable.

I pay homage to the corporate masters and do their bidding.

    kansasfarmgrrrl,

    ROX!

    PL,

You TOTALLY got me: I have read Thomas Frank’s Harper’s piece about the politics of personality and Liberalism. But who else but me would have thought to combine that with evil Lord Sauron and the Clenis?

    Joe Williams,

Not bad–not that I’m the arbiter of what’s funny.
