Test of Tiahrt’s vote-counting skills

A key job of the majority whip in the U.S. House of Representatives is to corral votes and count heads — to get out the votes of majority party members on preferred legislation. Surely anybody seeking the No. 3 leadership job ought to show his vote-counting skills in the process. Yet even as Rep. Todd Tiahrt, R-Goddard, announced his bid Monday to be majority whip (should Rep. Roy Blunt, R-Mo., move up to replace Rep. Tom DeLay, R-Texas, as majority leader), Chief Deputy Whip Eric Cantor, R-Va., was declaring his candidacy to be a done deal because he had the support of 140 members, 23 more than needed to win. Maybe Tiahrt knows something Cantor doesn’t know. Or maybe Tiahrt is just throwing his hat in the ring to further his name for later leadership runs and re-election campaigns.

“Tiahrt” and “skills” don’t belong in the same sentence.

Why don’t we just change the system to one dollar one vote? Instead of casting one vote, just put a dollar bill in the slot and who ever gets the most money wins. Hey! Isn’t that how it works with Tiahrt now?

We could save a lot of money by just letting Abramoff write the laws.

I thought these 94′ Republican Revolutionaries signed an agreement to only serve 3 terms at the most.

I guess the only person who actually followed through with that promise was Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, but as soon as he left the House, he went staight to the Senate.

I guess if you get to Washington, you stay there. Kennedy and Byrd know all about that.

I remember what Joe spoke of about the ‘94 republicants only staying a few terms and then leaving, as they thought politicians staying too long was part of the problem. It seems they have stayed until they are part of the problem. The ‘94 republicants ran on a platform of smaller government with less intrusion in your life. Also lower taxes and lower deficit. Does it seem they have lost their way? Term limits for congerss, anyone?I guess Todd knows what he is doing. He could pull just about any scenario of a screw up and still get re-elected by his “base”. Like Joe said, he is there for life.

    Joejob–

When Republicans like Paul Morrison switch parties to run against Kline, you know there’s blood in the water.

I wouldn’t be so cock-sure about Tiahrt’s chances this time around.

Remember back in 1994 when Tiahrt ran on a promise of “term limits.”

12 years seems like a long enough “term limit,” doesn’t it?

Galahad, unless there is a scandal, dead hooker, or a gay man, Tiahrt going to get re-elected with ease.

I don’t think Abramoff tentacles will reach Tiahrt or much of anybody. Since there are Democrats involved in it as well, such as Harry Reid, this is going to be sweeped under the rug by Congress, not by any political party.

Plus people have short attention spans, Abramoff will be long forgotten by November.

If Democrats want to find something against Tiahrt, better find it on the last week of October.

You might be right about Tiahrt, Joe . . . but you’re dead wrong about “Dems took Abramoff money too.”

They didn’t. It’s as simple as that. No surprise really because JackA. hates Democrats. He talked about “killing and burying them politically.”

The right-wing spin machine is desperate to make this scandal bi-partisan, and the MSM want to seem “fair and balanced.”

But the facts are simple: Abramoff is an uber-neo-con working for a neo-con political revolution. He supports those who support his positions, and that doesn’t include Democrats.

And the strategy to defeat Tiahrt won’t be to link him to Jack Aoff, it’ll be to do unto to him as he did unto Glickman . . . link him to President Cuckoo-Bananas.

The President’s approval rating is as dismal here in red state Kansas as just about everywhere else.

Who has licked Bush’s boots as much as Tiahrt and Roberts?

    Nobody, they’re class A suck-ups.

How can you tell when Todd is slippin it to those who work for a living? It’s when he always has that ship eatin grin on his face!

How can you tell when Todd is giving tax breaks to billionairs and offloading Kansans jobs to China, Russia, or India? He has that REALLY BIG ship eatin grin on his face.

Like being sold out? Like being under employed in Kansas – vote again for Tiahart!!!!!!!! What a sell out! My vote is to caste him in hell before he takes all Kansas there!

Hate to say it, but Joe is right. The Abramoff scandal is going to be fun for a while, but when it comes down to it, a couple of people are going to be offered up as scapegoats and not much more. Read some of the history of Abscam. A lot more people could have gone down, but the investigation stopped. I remember reading that The Justice Department stopped the investigation to keep from destabilizing the government.

The Abramoff scandal has the potential to do the same thing, so it won’t really go anywhere. Sure, there’ll be a few cosmetic changes but underneath, NOTHING will change. There’s bigger fish to fry than Tiahart. He’ll be re-elected till he dies of old age.

Tiahrt is always sure he will win when he loses in ICT because he knows that the single issue vote out in the rural part of the district will always go for him.So the way to get rid of Tiafart is to outlaw abortion. He will be looking for a job if this wedge issue can be removed from him and his minions.
