Rummy’s reign of terror?

L. Paul Bremer, the former presidential envoy to Iraq, reportedly says in his new book, “My Year in Iraq,” that Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld so “terrifies his civilian subordinates” that Bremer could “rarely get any decisions out of anyone but him.” Wouldn’t that be something, if history shows that the United States mismanaged postwar Iraq because of Rumsfeld’s abusive management style?

He is only one rat in a host of vermin that infests the top level of the federal government.

If one wanted a free and independent Iraq, one would work toward that end.

The United States doesn’t. They have failed miserably in hiring locals to rebuild their economy and infrastructure. Oil production now is lower than under Saddam during sanctions. The US authorities (Bremer et al) opposed for 18 months any direct elections, until non-violent pressure led by Al Sistani forced elections to finally take place. The miserable failure in developing an Iraq police and military force is not from mis-management, it’s BY DESIGN.

If you don’t believe it, why did Iraqi police arrest British spies with a car load of explosives? Why did the British military then destroy the jail with tanks to illegally free these British terrorists?

People do things for reasons, folks. The imperial forces need the continued chaos and violence to justify their continued control of perhaps the largest remaining supply of oil on the planet.

Rumsfeld is doing exactly what he’s paid to do–make sure no one comes up with a plan that produces real progress in Iraq.

Dont forget the fear ProudLib. They need us to be very afraid so we will continue to obey without questioning. Ever notice how when the poll numbers go down, either Osama appears or the color goes from orange to red? Will we ever see green again?

I believe terrorist tactics are real, but they must all support Bush. How else can you explain the beneficial political timing?

“He is only one rat in a host of vermin that infests the top level of the federal government.” Hee hee PL, good one.

I think we need an exterminator in Topeka too, though. Should we call the bug man? I think he will need the job shortly.

Ksfarmgrrl,”Dont forget the fear”.Exactly! Half of this country has been turned into panty-wetting cowards by the Bush administration. As I said on another thread, I’ve had conservative friends tell me they don’t care about civil liberties. All they care about is being safe.

There was a time when patriots defended the Constitution.

Now, those whould shred the Constitution claim to be patriots.

Let me guess, Osama is a figment of our imagination created by the CIA and Al Jazeera network is run by Kellog Brown and Root. Get real people.

Let’s see, we waited to have elections until an interim govt could be formed and could put together a constitution and organize voting districts and everything needed to have credible elections. 18 months is indeed to long, they should have had that put together in 18 days. I’m beginning to see your point…. NOT.

Rummy’s management style breeds Groupthink – nobody will express opposing viewpoints and wrong policies go unchallenged. Robert McNamara had a similar style with similar results.

Johnny WestI see you throw out the “Osama” scare tactic as used by King Bush. Perhaps he would be captured by now if our military was actually looking for him instead of pissing away so much our our resources in Iraq. But then again, there is no really large supply of oil in Afghanistan, is there? And if the pentagon wanted Al-Jazeera off the air, don’t you think a well placed missle would have Arabs wishing you would send them the tin hats so they could get better reception?

Johnny–besides ignoring almost all my points, you didn’t get the one right that you attacked.

It wasn’t that Bremer et al. didn’t organize the elections soon enough. It was that they actually sought to prevent them until they were forced.

BTW, Johnnie, do you know who “won” the last election and what they were running on?

Heh . . . I didn’t think so. The big winners were the theocratic Shia in the South. You know Iran’s government? These folks are pretty much just like that.

Their main campaign promise? Get the US out now.

That’s the trouble with all you “we’re fighting for democracy” idiots–you don’t even pay attention to what the Iraqis are actually voting for.

One further thought: you Bush backers insist that we didn’t invade Iraq for the oil.

Can you actually believe we would have invaded Iraq if their main export was dates?

Since we obviously DID invade to control the oil, why would anyone believe that democracy is BushCo’s real goal? Democracy will PREVENT and PRECLUDE US control over the oil fields.

That’s why it hasn’t happened in three years. Or why it isn’t going to happen in the next three as long as the conservatives control our government.

PL, use the same justification conservatives use about Yellow cake, ie., it’s the only thing Niger has to offer.

Oil…What else does Iraq have to offer?
