As most Americans are focusing on the year ahead, some presidential hopefuls (Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., included) undoubtedly have 2008 on their minds. Blogger Chris Cillizza of The Washington Post looked at how the potential presidential candidates fared in 2005.
According to him, Sen. Bill Frist, R-Tenn., had the worst year while Democratic Virginia Gov. Mark Warner had the best. (Check out the post to see his reasoning.) But voters’ short memories could very well make 2005 irrelevant by the time they choose the next president.

I’d rather have 4 more years of Bush than have Sam Brownnose as president.
Can’t agree, brown. GW will go down as the worst president of the last one hundred years–it’s hard to imagine a worse screw-up.
Let’s review: 9-11, worst terrorist strike in the US. Then-Nat’l Security Advisor Condi Rice’s speech scheduled for the next day had no mention of foreign terrorism and was all about “star wars” missile defense. Gary Hart’s terrorism report, presented to the administration six months earlier, screamed Al-Qaeda threats, so Dick Cheney took over the committee on terrorism. THAT COMMITTEE NEVER AGAIN MET. Our fearless leader received a Presidential Daily Briefing saying “BIN LADEN TO STRIKE IN AMERICA” less than one month before 9-11, but he was on vacation and there is no evidence that President Moron actually reads anything.
Because of the monumental screw-up of 9-11 preparedness, BushCo. saw their opportunity to secure Iraq’s oil fields for its business pals. I’m sure it’s only coincidence that the company that has profitted the most in Iraq–at taxpayer expense–is Halliburton, the company that still pays a salary to Dick Cheney.
The huge Weapons of Mass Destruction sales pitch proved to be nothing but a pretext. Result: nearly 3000 Americans dead, 20,000 severely wounded, 100,000 dead Iraqis, civil war looming on the horizon in Iraq, and no end in sight.
Oh, and hardly any oil exports. Hmmm . . .
Then there’s the domestic economy–budget deficit at historic high, national debt at historic high as percentage of GDP, number of people in poverty climbing every year that Bush was in office (after falling every year Clinton was in office), slow GDP growth that benefits only those at the top, falling real wages, 45 million Americans without health care.
Environment–don’t ask.
Alternative energy–you’re kidding, right?
Political corruption–see Jack Abramoff et al.
Political revenge that threatens nat’l security–see Valerie Plame affair.
Illegal spying on US citizens–see today’s front page
George W. Bush = Worst. President. Ever.
I have to agree, Z. This country has really suffered under Bush’s “leadership” in almost every way possible. I just hope we survive the next 3 yrs with the bozo still in office.
I couldn’t agree more. I was being sarcastic. I just believe GW would only hold the title of “worst president ever” till Brownnose got in there. Then he would own it.
A preview of the Brownback presidency:
President Brownback declares in:2009 – all citizens must have an “internal stirring” of faith2010 – all laws governing corporate behavior can be abandoned – President explains -”this is a country of faith, we know what to do. These laws of man are unnecessary”2011 – President Brownback with the help of Hollywood, appears to die, but comes back to life. Leader promises to escort all true Christians to a higher state of consciousness2012 – Brownback – wins a second term – Look out now America, you’ll never know what hit you. Brownback orders distinctive identity mark for all world citizens. Tim LeHay protests, but is immediately put to death.
Galahad, Bush may be the worst president ever, but don’t think his handiwork can’t be outdone by our nitwit, Brownback.
Sorry, I was reading Dave Barry this morning. Check out his year-end review at the http://www.washingtonpost.com.Happy New Year
For whatever reason, I can’t access the next thread, so I’ll leave my comment on this one. In order for Bush to improve, he’d have to learn from his mistakes and make an effort to change the way he operates. He’s not willing to do that because he could never even admit he’s made mistakes in the first place. He’s incompetant now and will continue to be until he is no longer president.
Even so, almost half of Americans support Bush. No matter what the twerp does, he still has almost religious support from conservatives. I guess they think it’s better to rule in Hell than serve in heaven.
Referring to 9/11 as a “terrorist” attack is the wrong description of what actually happen that day. The 9/11 commission report clearly states that that Arab retaliation followed a series of US Embassy bombings throughout the Middle East. All were designed to direct our attention to the ramifications of what happens as a direct result of financing the butchery of Arabs by the Israelis. The euphemism of “foreign policy” is used to soften the tone of that reality, so as not to hurt the tender feelings of the Zionist Jews committing those retaliatory provoking atrocities.
Solving any problem requires understanding it first. A doctor may not like telling his patient that the patient has cancer, but that is the first step in an effective treatment. The Arabs are trying to tell us that we have created a malignant cancer in their Middle East, and judging by the amount of butchery caused by Israel against Arabs, that description, though graphic, hits the mark.
9/11 was our wake-up call, to which we still sleep. A sleep which has been misused by the Bush administration to set us on a disastrous course of action. A course which sends us in the opposite direction of a solution to the problems which the rogue state of Israel has caused.
The word “terrorism” was applied to the Palestinian resistance by Zionist aggressors to garner both sympathy and money from the US Treasury. And to shield the Israelis Nazi-styled treatment of the Palestinians from exposure, as the Nazi-styled overzealous collective punishment which is currently happening in Gaza today. Israel firing artillery shells indiscriminately into densely populated areas of the overcrowded refugee camps. Artillery given to the Israelis by the United States.
Using “terrorism” to describe Arab resistance or retaliation only leads us around in circles, which, of course, it is intended to do.
Here’s a link from Ha’aretz to Israel justifying an attack against Iran by the United States. Notice the absence of any suggestion toward a peaceful solution.

And of course, we have another year of Ed’s one track, anti-Jew, the-end-is-coming-because-the-Jews-run-everything,I hate Jews so I’m going to irritate and bore everybody to death with my anti-Jew rants.Ed, just type in your name. We all know what’s coming.
Now that we’ve heard the Israeli “shoot the messenger” method to divert attention way from the content.
Any Americans concerned that PNCA will destroy America in the next three years? { that is the plan }
Israel has a problem fighting crime when the criminal are in charge.Nobody votes against themselves.

A little bit scary?
President Uses a Quiet Vacation to Prepare His Agenda for 2006
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/01/01/politics/01bush.html?th&emc=th
Reading Zeitgeist’s post, I am terrifyingly came to the conclusion that Bush and his ilk knew well in advance about 9/11, and may even actively assisting in its execution. Treason in the White House, anyone?
I’m don’t know why anyone would even want the job in this day and age. Our country is so sharply divided. Unfair criticism and deceptive BS is the norm. (See Galahad’s…, I mean Zietgeist’s post on this thread) There is no common decency between political parties.
You will live your life in a fish bowl. The political opposition will paint your motives in the worst possible light. You have to make life and death decisions for which you will be ctiticized and second guessed. You can’t even go on a working vacation without criticism.
You must raise money by sucking up to people that you don’t agree with or even like. The press will ignore or minimize your positive accomplishments. Any mistakes will be blown out of all proportion.
But the lure of power is irresistible to some.
So for what it’s worth, here is my list of qualifications for the job. The ideal candidate would be:
A strong leaderTough mindedExcellent manager and delegatorExperiencedWorks well under pressureA person of faithA person with strong principlesCharming and affableVisionaryFair-mindedAbove all, courageous
Hmmm.. sounds like Reagan.
Interesting speculation, Roo. Nothing helped President Cuckoo-Bananas like 9-11 did.
Americans, scared shirtless, elected him for a second term and waved him into Iraq.
Usually, the first thing investigators look at when they see a crime scene is “who benefits.”
But I just can’t bring myself to think that Bush would have conspired to let 9-11 happen.
Call me naive, but surely it’s just incompetence that explains it, isn’t it?
Outlander–
“Deceptive bs” ad hominem aside, what did I post that was in error?
Roo, If you’ve ever piloted a multi-engine aircraft, the difficulty in hitting those twin-towers at the right elevation and dead center would take years of practice. The so-called hijackers taking flying lessons while here in the United States, as they were traced, would not be enough time for them to even come close to hitting those towers.
When you move the steering yoke, the aircraft is very slow to respond, and even when you move it back, it keeps turning, then slowly begins to move back the other way. Both those aircraft were in tight turns coming into those towers, at over 500 knots, meaning whoever was at the wheel was very experienced, an expert, if you will.
Also it seems too convenient for PNACs overall plan.
Roo,There is nothing to connect Bush to the 9/11 terrorist attack except stupidity. I don’t for one minute believe that he, or anyone in his camp, would foist something of that nature on the American people. Invade Iraq? Yes. Attack America? Don’t be ridiculous.
Attacking someone or something outside these shores has always been a nonpersonal thing: Out of sight, out of mind. Today’s access to information makes that obsolete. Bush has yet to learn that.
Clinton will probably be judged as a great social president. Reagan should go down as a great world statesman. He does deserve that.
I don’t doubt that Bush and his cronnies think they are doing what they think is right for this nation. The problem is, they don’t have a clue what is right for the American people. Worst president ever? Probably. We’re down to too many years still. May they pass quickly.
Brown,Bush over Brownback? If I had no other choice, I would take Brownback in a heartbeat. At least Brownback is a man who sticks to his convictions and has shown compassion for his fellow man. Something Bush is incapable of.
Z: It’s a little hard to put that aside when it’s the assertion that I made. If you would like a broader discussion, I will have to put that off until I return later today.
Heh, okay, Outlander.
The number of American soldiers killed in Iraq is closer to 2200 than 3000 (just give it time . . . ), but everything else I said is factually true.
Yes, Virginia, there is a factually true reality, but you won’t hear it on Fox or Rush . . .
True, There is nothing to connect Bush to anything except stupidity. However there are people working in the background who are not stupid, but rather very clever and completely ruthless enough to do anything.
Would they attack America? In a heartbeat.
Bush is little more than a puppet, who does as he’s told.
No, Bush wouldn’t attack America, but he sure seemed to be looking the other way when it happened. Probably too busy with his plans to shred the Constitution, steal Social Security, give obscene tax breaks to his friends, and sink us in a sea of debt.
I notice that the hyperlinks for the 4 threads below this one don’t work. Chalk one up for the technical prowess of the Wichita Eagle. Amateurs.
If the 9/11 attack is what the 9/11 report says it is, then you can’t have a “war on terrorism.”
It has to be what somebody stuck into your mouth: A “terrorist” attack, or the whole “terrorism” thing goes down the drain. No “terror suspects”. No “terrorists” links. No ties to “terrorism.” Or as Sharon says: “Tarrarristss”
The whole frace falls apart. Don’t ya just love it?
XXX, They must be tarrarrissts.
JM, Brownback is compassionate…especially if you keep up your PAC contributions. But his staff only looks out for whoever gives the maximum contribution.
Ed,do you suppose they were afraid to turn us loose on “2005 was a bad year for Bush”? I suspect Israeli interference!
It’s them thar tarrrraaarrrisssts.
Afraid I have to agree with mrcontroversy on this one. I think there is evidence that Brownback’s compassion is based pure political calculation.
XXX, Bush says he’ll do whatever it takes to protect us. If he protects us anymore, they’ll nobody left to bury us.
Brownback has convictions? I thought he was just another nutcase fanatic.
Dagnabit, them Bush haters just got ‘em one helluva crawful. Fun to watch ‘em dance like fools every time he shows ‘em up.
I’se still waitin’ fer Johnson to pluck me off’n this roof. Ain’t he still president? Anyways, I needs to get back t’ the lib’ral plantation. I hears Guvner Blanko gots a job fer me in her plush new mansion. Good way to spend them federal relief dollars.
Too bad more whites died in New Orleans than blacks. Ruined my whole racist rant. Send money anyway, ya hear?
I still laughs ’bout how them two little fires showed up in the news for days — “New Orleans Burns”. Man, what BS them media drones lays on you dummies. And you all sucks it up.
And now, how ’bout them media pukes runnin’ off at the mouth about government secrets, and blowin’ the cover on the government’s spyin’ on terrorists. Dang fine patriots them media pukes are. By golly, they prob’ly saved a bunch o’ good, honest, hard workin’ terrorists from bein’ busted by them mean gummint guys.
Gotta play fair with them nice terrorist, by golly. They snuck in here fair ‘n square, so we oughta at least be more hospitable. Don’cha think? What’s a bomb here ‘n there, or an airliner into a skyscraper? We gots plenty to spare. Just a bunch of Hitlerites get killed, anyways. Ask yer perfessor. She’ll tell ya.Gotta go find me another democrat to blackmail. Keeps ‘em on my side.
Life as a lib’ral is soooo good!
Bye
And here we have Ali….
Living proof that close relatives shouldn’t breed.
And now we have Ali…
Living proof that close relatives shouldn’t be allowed to breed.
So, “Ali” the anti-Muslim racist troll has changed shape out before our eyes to become “Ali” the antiblack racist. Call me crazy, but this isn’t exactly a surprise.
I do, however, find the attempts of “Ali” to speak in ebonics more convincing than his presumed Muslim identity. That’s only natural, since reactionary white racists like “Ali” have lots more experience hatin’ on the black man than on the Muslim man. And judging by his aggreived tone, he feels pretty impotent in the face of black folks. Maybe it has something to do with who his white ‘wimmin’ would rather be with than him.
So, in the “mind” of “Ali,” black New Orleaneans, professors, Muslim terrorists, women, and “media pukes” are all equivalent as enemies of ‘Murica.’
Judging by the regurgitations of “Ali,” I’d say it’s reactionaries who populate the fever swamp.
Regarding 9-11, we know this much:
The Project for a New American Century had suggested in one of its documents a sudden traumatic event–a crisis–would be ideal for enacting their plans. We know that Bush and other top officials knew that Bin Laden was planning an imminent attack that could involve crashing airplanes into buildings. We know that the aviation officials and the first responders weren’t given this vital information.
Beyond that, it’s just the ol’ “Idiot or asshole?” debate again.
Rage, It’s always best to be very cautious about the source of information. Cover stories abound with both the CIA and the Mossad. The Mossad is by far the best intelligence service ever, as it has no restraints. The Mossad wasn’t sitting on the hands during the intelligence gathering about Iraq, common sense dictates that much. Over the years I’ve watched truth-telling standards keep getting lower, in a free-fall as a practical matter. All the way to: “I never had sex with that woman.”
I’m thinking that proverbial gain of salt keeps getting saltier.
Ali is me. I admit it, finally.
Note to self: get a life.
Oh no, no, no, no! This will never do! Ali is B. Augustus? I know B. Augustus! You’re no B. Augustus! Away, lying troll!
