Bush and that question

It was interesting that President Bush got as much media notice for stumbling over the “Brokeback Mountain” question at Kansas State University as for his fervent defense of his decisions on spying and war. The New York Daily News’ headline: “You’d enjoy ‘Brokeback,’ student gaily tells W.” “The Rancher in Chief and a Certain Cowboy Film,” is how The New York Times put it. What Bush said: “I’d be glad to talk about ranching, but I haven’t seen the movie,” trying to get out of the awkward moment.

According to one on-line political forum (and I have no way of verifying this) the person who asked the question was the leader of or a member of the KSU Young Democrats organization.

It somewhat reminds me of the “boxers or briefs” question asked of Clinton. You have the oportunity to ask a question of the most powerfull man in the world, and……you may as well have blown chunks.

All hat and no cattle. That’s what Bush knows about ranching.

As for the movie, you gotta be kidding me. I saw the previews with two gay friends of mine and they thought it looked ridiculous.

Ahhh..real in depth research there, huh lib? Saw the previews?

Ever hear the old adage, “don’t judge a book by its cover”?

Is there ANYTHING on this planet you don’t ridicule, dismiss, or attack?

Uh, yeah, there is, Ray. I can give you a list if you want.

Did YOU see the movie? I’d have thought you of all people would be the movie’s biggest critic.

Once again, lib…you are wrong. You are assigning characteristics to people erroneously–again. You have labelled me in your mind regardless of facts.

Yes, I have seen it, and I can see why it is up for several awards. Very well acted, timeless story.

So, lib, don’t label me with your “one size fits all” label.

Yo! Lib! I thought the crowd at KSU was staged!

  7. Posted January 25, 2006 at 1:57 pm | Permalink

    Ray–well, isn’t that sweet?

Joe–it wasn’t staged. It was hand-picked. If it hadn’t been, Bush would have been asked some real questions.

Prove to me it was handpicked. Don’t make accussations that you can’t back up.

I want actual facts, peoples names, dates, figures.

There are some liberals on here who I will listen but until you start bringing more facts than opinions you are wasting all our time.

By the way go ahead and get on and assault me and my character its what you do best to anyone who questions you

Questioner, take a breath. Bush controlled the audience by limiting tickets to students, faculty, and military from Ft. Riley.

It wasn’t open to the public.

I’m still thinking of Ray saying “Brokeback Mountain” is a timeless story . . . like say, “Romeo and Georgie Boy?” “For never was there a story of more woe, than Georgie Boy and his Romeo.”

“Gone With the Wind.” “Frankly, my dear Frank, I don’t give a damn.”

“It’s A Wonderful Life.” “Markie, Markie, don’t you know me, Markie? It’s me George, your husband . . . oh, Markie.”

“Rocky” “Yo, Andy. It’s me, the Italian Stallion.”

    PL..

Spoken like a member of the radical extreme right that votes to ban gay marriage. Homo-phobic liberal??

Ahh yes…and we all know how college students have always voted as a block, are a totally homogeneous group, and therefore could not have a single dissenter in the group.

Same thing with faculty..they are sheep, following their leader without question, without thought.

    Yep…sure thing, Lib…you nailed it.

So much for your proof of the audience being handpicked.

“he can’t look at the headlines on news stories and make a uninformed comment.”

Nope, nope, wayyy too easy. Gotta be a typo. Right.

PL, quit picking on Ray, okay? At least have a good reason first. Whatever his other views, he has a semi-libertarian bent, and, as far as I know, has not made any homophobic statements here.

Brian Thompson of Kansas Public Radio noted that large numbers of Riley soldiers were present for it (voluntarily, no doubt, ahem). The Liar-in-Chief usually prefers a stacked deck.

I also heard he wants us to go back to the farms and ranches. I see how much incentive bushco, cargill and adm are giving kids to do that very thing. Sorry prez, even farmers and ranchers have to make a living. We really dont spend all our time having same sex sex.

Rage . . . excuse me? He called ME a homophobe.

Actually, I respect Ray’s opinion, even though I disagree with him most of the time.
