This week’s results of a scientific survey by KWCH, Channel 12, were fascinating: 67 percent of Sumner County voters, 58 percent of Harvey County voters and 55 percent of Marion County voters said they’d support a casino coming to their county. Only the real mail-in ballot results count (they should be available Friday through next week). But such polling data again suggests there is a disconnect on this issue between the politicians and the people.

Aha! Knight and friends are doing the squeeze play. Casinos over the county line? That ought to get Wichita leaders in line. Let’s see now, Vegas or Newton for your vacation destination? First you get to pay double for airfare. Then double for the room and board. And finally, no competition within hundreds of miles. Destination? Don’t think so.
The only people who would come to a Kansas casino are ones who already live here, and Kansas weather and Kansas politics and Kansas job insecurity are enough of a gamble for most of us. No way this pipe dream is gonna fly!
codie,you, sir, are correct.
As for casinos in Harvey County, gosh. What will the Mennonites say?
CF,I assume the Mennonites will leave their opinion on the road in front of the casinos:-)
I fear if the Eagle keeps up the free advertising we will get one. It worked for the Arena.
J M Walker,
Indeed. Their four-footed friends will come in very handy.
codie,
Good call. I wonder if the Eagle has to declare its Arena and casino coverage as an ‘in-kind’ contribution? If the FCC wants to require bloggers to do so, seems only fair to make the MSM do the same.
Personally, I wouldn’t want a casino in Wichita or the surrounding county. I would prefer one in a much safer and secure environment. But I do believe that if they are going to build one they should build at least three, so they would compete with one another.
