‘Merry Christmas’ from The Eagle editorial board

The holiday season can take a lot out of its celebrants, including money, energy and good will. This one has upped the stress level by turning even “Happy Holidays” and “Merry Christmas” into needlessly loaded phrases. Today marks the spot where it all becomes worthwhile, though — where gifts are eagerly opened, festive foods are shared and family traditions are nurtured. Because this Christmas Day coincides with the Christian Sabbath, the sacred reason for the season is all the more heightened.
Our gratitude goes to those whose generosity and time have made possible the work of area charities this year. Our thoughts and prayers are with those dealing with sickness, loss, separation from loved ones or other adversity at this special time.
For all our readers and bloggers, may this Christmas Day be merry and bright.

writerdog,I couldn’t agree more. This place is a haven for those who aren’t afraid to make their opinions known (Ya, even you Ed).

So, here’s a very Merry Christmas to all of you, and may the new year bring forth many interesting and intelligent battles!

CF, writing from the People’s Republic of Seattle, WA, wishes all y’all a Merry Christmas, Happy Haunakah, Joyous Kwanza, Festive Solstice, and Happy Holidays.

Here’s the Christmas song, recorded by Stevie Wonder, the Jackson 5, and others, that gets me choked up, every time:

    **********************************

    Someday at Christmas

Someday at Christmas men won’t be boysPlaying with bombs like kids play with toysOne warm December our hearts will seeA world where men are free

Someday at Christmas there’ll be no warsWhen we have learned what Christmas is forWhen we have found what life’s really worthThere’ll be peace on earth

Someday all our dreams will come to beSomeday in a world where men are freeMaybe not in time for you and meBut someday at Christmastime

Someday at Christmas we’ll see a ManNo hungry children, no empty handOne happy morning people will shareOur world where people care

Someday at Christmas there’ll be no tearsAll men are equal and no men have fearsOne shining moment my heart ran awayFrom our world today

Someday all our dreams will come to beSomeday in a world where men are freeMaybe not in time for you and meBut someday at Christmastime

Someday at Christmas man will not failTake hope because Your love will prevailSomeday a new world that we can startWith hope in every heart

Someday all our dreams will come to beSomeday in a world where men are freeMaybe not in time for you and meBut someday at ChristmastimeSomeday at Christmastime

CF,Thanks for sharing those lyrics. I’ve never heard this song, but I am sure that I will now have to commandeer my son’s new ipod and see if I can’t download that song.

Merry Christmas AND other Happy Holidays to all!

“Mankind should have been your business. Kindness and mercy should have been your business, not who owns this holiday.” – the first ghost in “The Christmas Carol,” slightly abridged.

Happy Grandma-hood Damoon. Having three little grandsons myself I can tell you it is a whole lot of fun!

There was a wonderful article in today’s paper about Rabbi Michael Davis and his family (and the rest of the congregation at Temple Emanu-El) taking over Meals on Wheels dity so Christians can be with their families. To Rabbi Davis and his congregation I would like to wish a very Happy Chanukah!
