Here’s one more reason to add to the many given in our Wednesday editorial as to why nations need to address climate change. A new scientific report indicates that the ocean currents that transport heat around the globe are weakening.
The slowdown has long been predicted as an eventual result of global warming, but scientists did not expect it to happen so soon.
“The result is alarming,” wrote Detlef Quadfasel, a climate expert at the University of Munich.
That’s why nations need to act now rather than later.

Which way is it? One said that the global warming will finally allow year-round travel on the Northwest Passage. Now I’m told the Arctic Sea will be frozen because of the weakening of Gulf Stream.
The Younger Dryas cooling about 11,000 years ago was caused by a similar mechanism. This comes as absolutely no surprise to us scientists. LOCALIZED cooling of this sort is to be expected – for a relative short period.
Europe could be devestated by this. Look at a globe. Madrid, Spain is on the same latitude as Indianapolis, Indiana.
Having lived in Indiana, I would never say that its climate is “mediterranian.” The Atlantic warms the winters and cools the summers from Spain to Scandinavia.
If the North Atlantic became a stagnant pond, England would become like Greenland, a frozen waste much of the year.
Climate changes have been a part of earth since it became a planet. To blame the current global warming phenomenon on so-called greenhouse gases is ridiculous. We would be going through the same thing, CO2 or no CO2. Look at the past cycles, and it becomes pretty clear as to what is happening. Chicken little is alive and masking as responsible scientists.
Data entry in the super computers modeling earths changes are directly influenced by the leanings of those doing the data entry. What better way to snow the earth’s people than to fudge the data to show their point of view. Garbage!
