I heard someone once say “When I was growing up, my parents used to tell me to clean my plate because there were starving children in China. Now, I tell my kids to finish their education because the children in China want our jobs.”

What are YOUR children studying in college? What did YOU study?
Americans are too busy getting arts degrees (like journalism) meanwhile the rest of the world is getting educated in technical fields
Meanwhile the President of the United States and those in power who can directly impact education, including the GOP and the KSBOE, would steal time to teach the “controversy” of Intelligent Design rather than the science of biology.
It seems to me that the US needs to stop wasting time, drop ID like the time waster it so profoundly is, and concentrate post haste on the pure sciences, as well as biology, and especially mathematics.
In my opinion, Pres. Bush misses a golden opportunity to unite our dysfunctional Right/Left factional infighting by focusing resources on the one area where politics has absolutely no impact: mathematics. This is a win/win/win…/win situation; where’s our leadership?
As a point of reference, I give you Pres. Kennedy’s iniative to catch up to the Russian space effort in 1961 versus President Bush’s call to teach the “controversy” of evolution with no accompanying initiative to focus on science.
Credit where credit is due: if you agree that studying non-science “issues” in science class is NOT what’s needed at this time, then at least President Bush had the courage to admit that’s what he proposes (Pres. Bush thinks American students should learn about the “controversy” because it will help them become informed about current events).
ID is a non-issue. More time wasted than it’s worth.
