We’ve criticized President Bush for not taking real questions from diverse Americans (not preapproved, cheering GOP crowds) about the war in Iraq.
To his credit, he ventured out of his protective bubble Monday in Philadelphia, where after a speech on Iraq, he unexpectedly opened the floor to questions from the audience.
One woman asked about the loss of life among Iraqis. Bush cited best estimates that about 30,000 Iraqi soldiers, police and civilians had lost their lives so far in the conflict. White House officials had previously dodged the question.
Good, direct response. That wasn’t so hard, was it? And Bush gets credit for leveling with the American people merely by providing some baseline facts.
Another questioned the administration’s justification for the war by linking Sept. 11 and Iraq. No such operative link has ever been established.
“I made a tough decision,” Bush replied. “And knowing what I know today, I’d make the decision again. Removing Saddam Hussein makes this world a better place and America a safer country.”
OK — bad, dodgy response. He’d really make the same decision today, knowing what he knows about no WMDs and no link to al-Qaida? Knowing the human cost of going in? Does he think Congress and the American people would follow him?
Anyway, it’s a start. At least he’s talking.

What do you expect from a phony like Bush? Unstaged answers? Words not put into his mouth by those with hidden motives? He’s been to neoconservative school, so should we all be impressed that he has a good memory and remembered his lines? Do you suppose that any of his answers were heartfelt truth?
30,000 dead? Maybe in just Fallujah, but not after over 2 years of daily bombing. Wrong answer, Mr. Phony President, like the one about the constitution being just a G-d piece of papaer?
Somebody have the guts to introduce the impeachment bill and lets get-on with removing this piece of crap from the oval office, please, before I start throwing-up.
Nice try, Karl, a little late, but nonetheless, nice try.
The iraqi death count at 30k, just seemed too low to me, but I wasnt’ sure how they came to that figure.
It took my a little while, but I finally found what I was looking for. Bush’s question and answer session helped point me in the right direction.
There are two figures to look at.The number of Iraqi civilians acknowledged killed, 30k.The number of Iraqi insurgents killed is at 58k.
And now the phony polls show the phony Bush with more phony support from phony people.
How come the polsters never call me and say, well Ed, what do you think about this phony piece of crap? Is it because they don’t have that question on their list to ask? { careful, you only get one guess }
Or would “they” really rather not?
More phony stuff, from the phony White House.
3 groups have contracts for pro-U.S. propaganda
This is how we got the “phony war on terrorism” { a “terrorist” is anybody that resists being killed by Israel, or their supporters, and something has top be done because the world is starting to wise-up }

Truth Justice and The American Way is now Bush-Officially out-of-style.
Replaced by the Zionist’s Israeli Way
Lie, Cheat, Steal, and Murder.
It must be better because it’s got four things instead of just three things.
More is better?

Bless your heart!
Bush would do it again?
Gee. The loved ones of the soldiers must sure feel better knowing he’s kill them all over again.
Doesn’t President Stupid know that congress would have stopped him cold in his tracks?
Karl makes him say the dumbest things.

The White House quickly came out with: “That 30,000 figure is not an offical number, but rather an estimate.”
Wow, all those dead Iraqis will be so glad to hear that they weren’t actually killed, but rather estimated.
Being estimated is so much better than being killed.
USA Today:
“U.S. Special Operations Command awarded three five-year contracts in June for contractors to develop slogans, advertisements, newspaper articles, radio spots and television programs to build support for U.S. policies overseas. Each contract has a maximum value of $20 million per year for a total of $300 million.”
Ed:
The Dallas morning News ought to get a check for 20 million. They’ve been doing it for free { or maybe the editorial staff ought to split it up among themselves, they’ve earned it }.
Aside: They don’t like me.

Is this the remedial Presidency or what? Bush actually ANSWERS a question–albeit mistakenly–and gets petted and fussed over like a puppy who’s just made a doo-doo on the newspaper instead of the carpet.
We don’t owe Bush our thanks. He owes us candor and the truth. I hope I never live as long as to see so bass-ackwards a state of affairs as the Bush ‘presidency.’
CF, Well said. It is a sad state in which to find our country.
Everytime you think he’s reached a new low, he gets lower.
Bush is a puppet mouthing Karl’s words. The worldwide propaganda effort by Rumsfeld is a bit scary.
Ed,
Yes; it’s crazy-making what the Rove Administration has done to our country. Two stolen Presidential elections, a soon-to-be $500 billion war predicated on lies, a massive deficit, the destruction and abandonment of New Orleans, the selling of America to China, and the greatest enemy of America, Osama Bin Laden, still on the loose.
Bush’s popularity is 38%. That’s pretty good considering the attack he’s conducted on America. But frankly, considering the machine he’s put in place, I’m increasingly dubious about our survival.
And watching Democratic Quislings like Hilary, Liberman, Biden, and Kerry piss away their responsibilty and attack Democrats who would resist the Administration–well, it’s just 1933 all over again, isn’t it?
One struggles to remain a ‘happy’ warrior.
CF, What would be happening if Murtha was president right now? This very minute?
Can’t say. I certainly wouldn’t agree with all of his views. But I would have the feeling that a decent, rational, sane human being was in control, and that his interests and my interests were more alike than different.
The war was based on bad intelligence. It’s the CIA’s fault – not mine. I should know too. My daddy owns the west 1/2 of the CIA. My grand-daddy was a founder of the CIA inc. The police for the richest rich and most corrupt. It was just a lot of bad intelligence that got us into wat with Iraq. It’s ok …. I would do it again knowing what I know to day. Can you impeach a president for continuing to make the same misteaks and expect a different outcome? No, insanity is not gounds for impeachment! Beside the price of oil and aid to my bank account is up, up, way up! Thank-you America!

I find it difficult to imagine any American sitting behind the desk in the oval office and intentionally doing as much damage to the United States as George W. Bush.
From America’s principles, security, constitution, morality, to compassion for its citizens, a knuckle-dragging ape would do less harm.
What’s with him anyway?
That’s a good question, Ed.
What is with Bush anyway?
I think the answer is that Bush is not really an American, he’s a “look out for number one-r.”
He supported Vietnam but figured out how to make someone else fight it. He’s all for tough drug laws, but he himself snorted enough cocaine to keep John Belushi wired. He stands up for personal responsiblity but when Iraq turns into a quagmire with no WMD’s, it was the CIA’s fault.
He’s the rich playboy scion of a family that has enjoyed nothing but wealth and privilidge for generations–a steel-magnate great grandfather, a US senator grand-father, a US president father.
He doesn’t care about America. He cares about his cronies and his coterie.
He’s a midieval prince the way they really were instead of the way they are in our romanticised imagination, someone who sees himself so far above the “peasants” that he sees no relation or relevance to them.
Unfortunately, those peasants are us–US citizens.
It keeps getting better and better with this numbskull we elected President: http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2005-12-13-heating-bills_x.htm
If you’re a poor person living in those five states, including Kansas, start burning your furniture. Insane doesn’t do him justice.
Now we know what “Compasionate Conservativism” is all about. Kind of brings a tear to the eye, don’t it?
XXX,That would be croc tears, as in croc bro. And we still got three more years. I’m gonna start darning my socks.
Too bad!So sad!Dick and I are glad!We are getting wealthier, and wealthier, and we run the World!
Thanks for everything! Especially the votes …. didn’t need em anyway!

10-4 on the croc, Bro.
What? You think the President owes anybody answers? He’s the President, for crissake! What good is it to be the President if you got to answer a bunch of silly or embarrassing questions? Being President means you never have to say you’re sorry.
I read JM Walker’s linked article and I am wondering what the big deal is?
To it’s credit, because it doesn’t always do it, USA Today gave both sides of the story, including the Dept of Agriculture’s alternative for funding energy payments to the needy. It seems reasonable to me.
But the reaction here is just another unthinking, automatic, blame Bush bash.
To his credit, he ventured out of his protective bubble Monday in Philadelphia.
So we think he was in a bubble? That explains it. HAHAHAHA
