Time magazine’s decision to include Gov. Kathleen Sebelius among the nation’s five best governors came at a good time for Kansas, given the run of bad headlines the state has generated lately. The timing also nicely serves her unannounced re-election bid.
No doubt many Kansas Republicans reacted to the recognition with dismay, feeling the low-key and sometimes seemingly AWOL Democratic governor is getting credit due the GOP-controlled Legislature. But there is something to be said not just for Sebelius’ feat in being elected in this red state once, but also for how well-positioned she seems to be for next year’s election, with the schools enjoying improved funding and the economy on the rebound. And regardless of politics, Kansans should take pride in seeing their governor singled out for such high praise.

Sometimes the best action taken is staying under the radar. She makes good decisions, doesn’t take things too personally and stands firm when needed.I think she is a good moderate govenor. I voted for her once, and I will do it again.
All that and a democrat in a red state also, gotta love her.
Might know, a Democratic governor is the only thing we’re not getting laughed at about. Isn’t that interesting? A Kansas Democrat gets respect and recognition; Kansas republicans get laughed at. I’m sure that’ll go right over the head of most Kansans.
She is getting the respect she deserves for being thoughtful, fair and well spoken. She is not getting credit for her political party. You are right, XXX, the extremists are giving Republicans a bad name.
You know, someone else brought this up earlier, but it was a good point. We elected a Democratic governer…if we could move the masses for the next election, Kansas could be a bright purple state…anyone think that’s too optimistic?
Tara! It is probably already there. We have a Democrat Governor and one Democrat Congressman.
In 2012, Kansas will lose a Congress person for sure, leaving only three left.
But History shows us that Democrats have faired well in Kansas. We have had several recent Democrat Governors, and the Wichita area had a Democrat Congressperson for 18 years up till 94, during the Republican takeover.
Republicans will lose a bit of clout, because they are going the wrong way from what the Party did stand for. I’m with George Will on this one. (The other blog entry) that moderates and fiscal, limited governmnet Republicans will break ranks. I hope it is a rise for a third party.
But Sebelius got elected from Republicans. She knows it too. She cannot win from Democrats alone, so that is why she is not a leftist/liberal Democrat.
Good grief. Remind me to cancel my subscription to Time. Woops, did that about 9 years ago!
Governor Sebelius has earned a nice, long rest. When does she come up for re-election?
I was all for Sebelius until I heard how she ’shifted’ the budget and increased her office budget and staff, paying for the additional overhead by cutting other areas. Won’t see this reported in any ultra-lib zine like Time, or Wichita Eagle.

I don’t understand why “shifting” and increasing staff is such a bad thing to a conservative like you, ID. If this wasn’t reported in what you describe as “ultra-lib zine’s” like Time and the Eagle, it might be because the liar-in-chief GW Bush has been doing it for so long it is no longer newsworthy. Are you suggesting a double standard, one for conservatives and another for the enemy party? How do you define an “ultra lib ‘zine”? Is this a publication that tells you something you don’t want to hear?
This is the difference between us and them. We’re for whoever’s competent and decent and does a good job.
They’re for right-wing radicals. Period.
Our governor is a decent person doing a fine job. If she were a Republican, I would support her.
But not the spittle-flecked right-wing. The American Taliban take no prisoners and give no quarter.
Galahad, BULL$@#T. You’ve shown your cards on too many posts for anyone to believe your BS.
BTW, guess which governor was in the basement? One guess. You’re right. Blank Blanco.
