This question came from an Opinion Line contributor:
Does Kansas Education Commissioner Bob Corkins remind anyone else of Beldar from the Coneheads of “Saturday Night Live,” or is it just me?

That’s it, make fun of how someone looks.
Dear Melissa,
Since we have reduced the debate to personnal appearance, why don’t you comb your hair and use a little makeup? Who’s your mentor, Rhonda?
M.C.: This is a grade school response of criticizing the appearance of someone you don’t like. Surely you can do better.
How dare you insult the coneheads! Have you no decency?
Mypsk! Mypsk!
Calm down folks, calm down. May I suggest, as a peace offering, what Beldar himself liked most: sixpacks and no-pest strips, for everyone!
And don’t forget the fiberglass sandwiches.
Esod, you remain an idiot. I feel dumber just for reading you.
Quit abusing the women, okay, girley man?
I must have missed something. The way I read Rhonda’s comment was that she was passing on something that a reader posted…not necessarily her opinion.
Also..I think a comparison can be made that is not physical. The Coneheads were clearly “not from around here”, they were clueless as to values, customs, norms, etc. There is a great comparison to Corkins, who seems to be off on his own little planet.
He reminds me of a monkey. I spent years and schooling to become a teacher only to see a know-nothing hack take over the education system. Calling those who gave him that job apes or monkeys would be an insult to those animals.
