Time magazine recently gathered a group of panelists to discuss who should grace the cover of its “Person of the Year” edition for 2005. But the most influential candidate was not a person at all. Mother Nature was cited as the driving force behind the major news stories of 2005 — the tsunami, Hurricane Katrina and the earthquakes in Kashmir. Other suggestions included the first responders to Katrina, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice with Rosa Parks, Bono, Bill Gates, President Bush and the Iraqi voters. Do you have any different ideas?

I think that it is very sad when good old Mother Nature gets a story and no-one has any replies for her. You have to remember that it is not good to fool Mother Nature. For with all the pollution, waste, global warming, etc. and all, good old Mom will have the last laugh. We will continue to argue every facet of our short little lives. Politics, religion, philosophy. All those many things that we are certain are the most important things in the world. All the while Mom is just waiting for the right moment to pull the carpet out from under our feet, and give a lesson in how unimportant we all really are.
I’m sure she’s getting more pissed by the moment!
I am very much concerned that the best (or worst) is yet to come. That may sound like prophetic crap, but the earth is way overdue for a cleansing.
J1M,I fear that you are right!
Speaking of cleaning: Does she do windows?
Hey, Katrina cleaned every window that wasn’t boarded up!
