Bush asks for resolve, but will he get it?

President Bush rejected a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq and called for resolve and patience in his speech this morning at the U.S. Naval Academy. It was a determined and hopeful message aimed at restoring public support for the war. And he outlined a few more specifics, though his definition of “complete success” is still unclear and seems to have been downgraded to a stable Iraq that isn’t a safe haven for terrorists. Many Americans likely will doubt Bush’s assessments of progress in training Iraqi troops, given that several Pentagon officials and independent analysts are much less optimistic. But it was good that Bush went beyond platitudes in making his case for what is at stake and why “staying the course” is important.

Karl Rove’s puppet is little more than a well scrubbed rube. One with an appetite for blood. An acquired taste, but a requirement to be in the company he keeps.

    More to come.

What’s to lie about?Saddam would have gladly destroyed Al-Quida himself if he could, as he saw them as a threat to his power.Iraq was in bed with Osama and they all had WMD’s. Not true, and not funny. The towers fell and it’s time to quit waving the flag and beating the war drums, because Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11.

Yes they were, according to the 9/11 report, which everyone in congress was given a copy.

Lil’ Eddie Friedman:I guess the constitution of this country, gives you the right, to denigrate, ridicule, blame and cast doubt upon the leaders of this country. You are certainly right, in that you have that option.

I would just like to ask you, in your infinite wisdom, why, you chose this forum, to express your criticisms and dissatisfactions and why, you are not a distinguished leader of this country. Apparently, the country is at a loss without you!Apparently,(you think) you are far more educated and adroit in expressing yourself than I. But, when I read your posts, all I can think of, is the number of people, that have given their lives to the service of this country, to protect your sorry a–, while all you do is blame and criticize.

You couldn’t solve the problem, if you were in charge; you haven’t a clue. But, you sure can monopolize this board with your insane comments and accusations of wrongdoing. That’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it!!

Karl Rove’s puppet is being deceptive and “those” not swift enough to figure that out offer nothing in rebuttal besides a display of their own lack of any ability to understand much of anything. Don’t lose any sleep about being a good American.

As with you, good Americans are not willing to stand by and simply watch our soldiers lives being offered-up to satisfy the bloodlust of those planning to replace the constitutional government or these United States with an inferior form of dictatorship.

Those halfwits standby their own lack of intelligence, the intelligence it takes to know when they’re being “had.”

Tricking people is what the ilk of Karl Rove do, which, if did not involve the future of the United States, would not have such dire consequences. Forrest Gump said: “Stupid is as stupid does” and there seems to be an abundance of “does” in these close quarters.

But those unable to protect themselves require our attention, no matter how ungrateful such handicaps cause them to be. Being an American has that responsibility as you well know.

    Welcome aboard.

The time has come to have an open debate about Israel.

The Jewish religion or the Jewish race is not and should not be apart of any debate, but as the Israelis effect on world politics has particularly become a major concern to the world’s body on nations, serious questions need addressing.

With the Likud Party on one side busy violating international law, and the Labor Party on the other side complaining Israel is headed in the wrong direction, along with condemnation from the United Nations, the American People should be aware of what effect, if any, Israel’s ambitions effect them.

Critiquing Israel has a tendency to have the accusation of anti-Semitism flung into any debater’s argument, when it simply does not apply. Currently, there is a UN resolution being bandied about that criticizing Israel should automatically carry the label of being anti-Semitic, despite the validity of the complaint.

Nonetheless, the time has come to have an open debate about Israel.

For those who understand the global stakes in the war on terror, Bush will continue to have their support. Those who are blinded by hatred, who want America to lose, who want a Bush defeat for a few measley Congressional seats will not. Pretty simple stuff.

    Joe Blow,

‘Pretty simple stuff’ coming from a pretty simple guy–namely, you. The sad / funny part is that, like a true simpleton, you believe every bit of it.

As for Bush’s comical ‘resolve’, well, gosh, everybody knows that the best thing about banging your head against the wall is that it feels so good when you stop. Unless, of course, you’re George W. Bush, and that wall is Iraq.

In that case, keep banging away.

Good point, Galahad. What it makes it even better is who’s loaning us the money. Aside from Chinese banks and other foreign investors, much of our borrowed income is coming from Treasury bills–which the working class people aren’t really buying.

To flesh it out, roughly speaking, the same ultrarich who are saving billions in tax payments are turning around and LENDING us the money to keep our government running–with interest. They are the lords, and we are the serfs, forever in their debt.

And, while I’ll let Ed take this one (it being his specialty), isn’t it about time we stopped subsidizing Israel, a presumably sovereign nation?

We need the resolve to re-solve who done it? Can there be unsolved treason?

    Since 1973 Israel has received 1.6 Trillion dollars. Not Billion, but Trillion { One trillion equals 1 thousand billion }

    Talk about a gravy train.

As the Israel army retreated from Lebanon, Hisbollah was positioned to blow them completely away, but Nixon saved them using the US Airforce.

When Jimmy Carter negotiated between Arafat and Rabin, Israel started collecting the “big bucks” and has ever since.

Ahhh what a wonderful lack of understanding you show codie. Perhaps you could enlighten those of us without your mighty brain power what the lies were and where they are contradicted in the 9-11 report (page and line numbers please, since you did read some of it). And since birds of a feather and all that, you are in great company as we are all humbled by joe blow, who possesses brain power not before seen in mortal man. Who is able to regurgitate the GOP party line in his sleep. I bet you can say ’stay the course’ three times fast in your sleep. Too bad you weren’t allowed to use your brain at will, then you could command your eyes to open and you would see what the hell is going on. Are you really that simple to believe that this is all about just a few congressional seats? Here is a tip for you; it is about the lives of American soldiers. Sons and daughters sent to the other side of the world to fight a war for corporate profits.

Bush knows he screwed up. So does the entire republikan party. They are now trying to mitigate the damage this dolt has done to the GOP (they don’t care about the country or anyone in the bottom 99%). So the troops will spend another 10 months in Iraq and around October they will start returning to their home bases. Because in the next 10 months they will make great strides in preparing the new Iraqi military to defend their country. Never mind that they have trained about 800 people in the last 2 years. (Don’t give me that 200,000 troop bs. If they weren’t ready 2 months ago when the commanding general testified before congress they aren’t ready now.) At that time (October 2006) they (the GOP) will start saying that was their plan all along. (And it needed to be kept secret why?) And you simple minded fools will believe every word.

So go and shoot your mouth off james. While the Constitution protects Eds right to ridicule the president the real abomination to it and our forefathers are you mindless rejects who blindly follow the president regurgitating the party lines and never stopping for one instance to check the morality of what you are advocating or even a few simple facts.

    Impeach Bush?

“For misleading the American people, and launching the most foolish war since Emperor Augustus in 9 B.C sent his legions into Germany and lost them, Bush deserves to be impeached and, once he has been removed from office, put on trial along with the rest of the president’s men. If convicted, they’ll have plenty of time to mull over their sins.”
