The Eagle’s editorial today concerns the crusade against X-rated businesses by Mayor Carlos Mayans and the Operation SouthWind group. The city’s new effort to zone these businesses out of certain high-profile neighborhoods makes sense, though even that invites litigation. And if the shops are selling stuff that crosses the legal line or skirting city code, further action is needed. But as our editorial notes, Wichita is a home to these 15 businesses because there’s a local market for what they sell, and “opponents of adult businesses would do well to focus their activism less on curbing the supply side and more on curbing the demand.” What do you think?

Well! I don’t know why there are so adamently so against them. Just like strip clubs.
I guess if they want them to locate outside the city limits, the city will miss out on the sales tax revenues they produce. Their loss! People will still go to them.
Well Joe have you not hear, conservative don’t like anything to do with sex! But we both know that is not true, where would all the liberal children come from?LoL
This is much to do about nothing. On the radio coming home for lunch I hear that a preacher said that porn has been found in the church dumpster. And he is sure someone put it there intentionally! Yes pastor, though some would say that is where it belong and where it comes from. Some one would have put it there. THough not always someone outside the church.
I hope they never figure out what happens behind the closed door of the average bedroom. My grass is still looking good and I would hate for the protesters trample it down.
I am certainly glad the all knowing city council is looking out for my morality. We citizens do not have moral backbone to resist the temptations offered in the adult stores.
The mayor was not elected to be the “morality monitor” of this city. There are gang problems. There are streets with horrible paving problems. There are homeless people. There are lawsuits against the police department. There are crack houses. And our MAYOR spends his time preaching about the sin of adult bookstores.
I am not talking liberal/conservative issues. I am not talking the value/negative impact of these adult stores. I am talking about being incensed with a mayor who’s main goal seem to be to advance HIS religious agenda–using taxpayer money to do so. He needs to resign and start a church or something, and QUIT using taxpayer funds to run his moralistic campaign.
This mayor has proven his incompetence before (remember the BTK “press conference” self congratulatory extravaganza? Now he is working overtime to prove beyond all shadow of a doubt that he is not fit to hold any public office.
About once every other decade, the self-rightous, self-appoined blue noses decide to stick their noses into other folks’ business. I’d like to get all upset about it, but there has always been, and will always be, people who like patronize porn shops. On the other hand, I still get upset at the insufferable moralists who perpetuate this stupidity.
Whatever we personally think of porn, the fact is that it’s a major player in the nation’s economy, and is in part responsible for a lot of things that we all benefit from.Maybe the solution is to let legitimate business co-opt porn, as it’s already on the road to doing. If they can’t leach the excitement out of it, nobody can!
I wouldn’t want a porn shop in my neigborhood and I wouldn’t travel to seek one out, in any case. I don’t see however, that they are really more harmful or more unsightly than liquor stores, local bars, or the plethora of used car lots, that occupy space in this City.
I do want; Streets that are smooth and don’t flood. I want trash and vacant homes and properties cleaned up. I want crime and violence ended. I want to see the end of this out of control Council, that takes every opportunity, to spend the taxpayer dollar, on every project, that suits Their interest, at the ultimate loss to the taxpayer.
The City and The Mayor, need to look at their jobs, as doing for Wichita; and not for the special interests of themselves, or their special interest groups!
Perhaps the mayor should notice that Wichita already has a bad reputation as a place singles people don’t want to move to.
Just look at a survey done on a site called:Sperling’s

Here Wichita is nearly dead last, 79, beat only by Kansas City, MO.
So what is the mayor, and these moralists for community standards want? Should only married people with children move here? Is there message for single adults to stay out of Wichita? Are they just not welcome here? We may end up running off some talented people here in this city and the mayor and his supporters misguided attempts at shutting down adult entertainment will only contribute to that.
Why not put all the Porn affiliated businesses down next to the “Winged Monument To City Extravagence,” next to the “Flyover?” No body goes down there anyway!
It should also be made mandatory, that only Ugly people move to Wichita, therefore, removing the need for any type of social interaction. They would be allowed, to watch the water in the river, cascade over the dam, on Harry Street; however.
Yeah, them porn joints really bring in the singles. Let’s put one on every corner. YeeHaw!
Otto,I was born here in Wichita, and it was dead last on most lists long before the subject of sex shops came up. If we want off ‘em, let’s put our efforts where they’re really needed- like in weather control!
What will be next?Seeing the WPD raiding a house because it’s having one of those lingerie parties?
Either that or sunflowers!
If you ever wondered just how far government can go, think of Alabama. Where it is illegal to sell any device designed or marketed as useful primarily for the stimulation of human genital organs” can now get you up to a year of jail time and up to $10,000 in fines.
You can however still use, improvise or borrow(?) or import from out of state these devices.

Lest we forget…after being frustrated in their attempts to close down strip clubs, the Mississippi Legislature several years ago attempted to make it illegal for a man to have an erection in public.
My God mrcontroversy, let’s not let that get around! I can see the up-tight religious right jumping all over that one!
mrcontroversy,There might actually be some sense behind that one. Anyone who can get one in Mississippi probably shouldn’t be reproducing anyway!
Curbing the demand? WHAT?What in the world would this mean?Doping the public water supply?
How about another really stupid “public service” campaign?”JUST SAY NO TO YOUR LIBIDO!”
Let’s just pass the burkas out to all females when they enter middle school. Hurrah for the American Taliban.
“Let’s just pass the burkas out to all females when they enter middle school. Hurrah for the American Taliban”
LoL, tracy for a moment there I was not sure what you were saying. The word “burkas” threw me,I knew a couple of post before someone was talking about devices that stimulate. I guess I was still thinking about those posts while reading yours. Then I remembered the head wear of women in the middle east “burkas”.
Too bad someone already patented men’s barbed underwears to discourage those unwelcome erections a couple centuries ago.
As for “porn in the church” I have always thought the Bible as one of the most erotic book ever. Although some of the practices mentioned are downright illegal nowadays, e.g., incest, bigamy, sex slavery, even bestiality if one counts the Nefilims as belonging to separate species.
Hey Roo!!! Welcome back!

What? Sex is a business?Where do we apply at?Roo, have you ever noticed that no matter how hard you try you always have a sexual thought (or two) in church?
