The four new site maps for the downtown arena give citizens an even better sense of the strengths and weaknesses of each location option. Sedgwick County leaders say there is no clear front-runner yet. So if you have a favorite site, let the county know — either by posting comments on the county’s online forum (www.sedgwickcounty.org) or by attending an open house from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the atrium of the Bank of America building, 100 N. Main.

None of the above. Cancel it and save the 1/4 billion dollars that are about to be wasted.
Total agreement!
Yup, we got sold a bill of goods. Remember Mayans? Either vote for the new arena or we spend 55 million on the Kansas Coliseum anyway.
Some choice. I think they’re still going to spend the money on the Coliseum, last I heard.
How about donating the arena, and it’s tax, to some poor state that really needs one?
My first choice would be the north location because it would be close to Old Town, but I think it would uproot too much in the area. The west location is where I think it should go up. It would be close to the WaterWalk.
Who cares where they put a nearly-always-empty chunk of dreary, gray concrete? Maybe they can use it to house all the other futile, money-sucking, socialist ventures the city and county have created over the years.
Call it: “The Wichita Museum of Predictably Impossible Dreams”
How about the SOUTH side of town, say I-135 and MacArthur? The arena is supposed to bring prosperity with it, and we all know how much the city has been neglecting this part of our town. Maybe Carlito can used it as a base to chase away all the adult industries from within the city limit.
How about building a world class BINGO emporium in downtown Wichita with lots of colorful neon, bells and whistles. I understand there is one other, in Las Vegas, which gets the national or perhaps world bowling convention once every three years. With Wichita’s current small town/big town family-oriented ambience — this might provide a remarkable center-piece for renewal of downtown Wichita.
And remodel the current KANSAS COLISEUM north of Park City with its direct access to I-135 and 4,000 FREE surface parking spaces in place NOW instead of the 200 parking spaces proposed for the ill-advised downtown arena. (Note: all parking for you, the public, will only be available at street prices from private parking lot operators.)
Downtown Wichita has a much better chance for a brilliant future without the downtown arena.
If the city would let the indians build a casino at reservation expense …… it would draw enougn revenue that some private investors would build an arena. The city would have jobs, tourism, lots of extra tax money spent in town, and not spend a dime of it’s own.
Instead they pay the Hyatt corporation to buid the downtown Hyatt and then buy it back again at full price …… having paud for it twice?
If they were smart and created an influx of people coming in to a casino first – the hotel and an arena would have been built by private investors!
Thanks WichitaI make my most money from idiotsDon Trump
Lets build the arena (if we have to) next to the Coliseum. Plenty of room for the building and lots of parking space. Easy access to the highway. And when it fails, we won’t have to look at it.
NiteRider: Right on! The perfectly good Kansas Coliseum north of Park City has 10,000 seats and 4,000 free parking spaces now in place.
After spending some 1/4 billion dollars of your sales taxes with the 20% increase from 6.5 cents to 7.5 cents on the dollar — Wichita will have a downtown arena slightly larger with some 15,000 seats but only 250 parking spaces for the “big boys.” Also with no safe way to drive in and out of the low area in the “elbow” of I-135 and Douglas.
The downtown arena needs to be cancelled immediately before its to late.
News Flash!!!!!
The Arena will be built at the West site. The North site has been ruled out like an ugly stepsister, (redheaded at that.) The Mayor, has already said, “this site doesn’t suit our needs.” But, it isn’t the mayor’s or the city’s decision, so why does he have to put in his two cents worth? (Because he’s Mayor and he’s looking out for the city.)
The West site, is the most expensive of the four. We can make the current property owners rich, the arena will be at the front door of Waterwalk, which is Wichita’s most expensive, non-productive adventure yet and even tho, it is only projected to have 400 hundred or so, parking spaces allocated, with no easy access to any convenient way to get home after an event, it supports the effort to make Waterwork a success.
Whichever way it goes, I think it’s gonna be a financial disaster.
My vote is for the Central Area. Split the distance between Old Town and The Exciting, Action packed Riverwalk.
