NBC News reported that when the floodwall on the 17th Street Canal in New Orleans was built a decade ago, there were major construction problems. According to court records, the levee contractor told the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers that the soil and the foundation for the walls were “not of sufficient strength, rigidity and stability” to build on, NBC reported. Yet the work was done anyway.
Other reports have shown that local officials did a poor — and possibly corrupt — job directing federal money to levee improvement work.

OH? Corrupt local officials in New Orleans? Say it isn’t so…I mean, corrupt Democrats? Rhut rho, that is gonna ruin Galahad’s day….
Other bad decisions made by the Army Corps of Engineers included actions that lowered the city to levels below sea level and stripping the protective marshes. The Gulf of mexico is many miles closer to NO than it once was. The Corps was warned of the folly of these actions long ago.
And the feds have no system in place to oversee that the money they spend is spent wisely.
More of the same–”blame locals, blame locals, blame more locals.”
I blame it on the Clinton administration, because Clinton doesn’t care about black people.
My, my, my…how the libs come out (or fail to) when something such as this happens on their watch. True, the job was probably corrupt from the beginning. True, the Army corps of engineers were told of the problem. True, the Project was done anyway. True, it was done on Clintons watch. The funny thing is, if it had been done during a Bush watch, the libs would be out in droves, blaming it on Halliburton, zionists, Jews, Bush. Strangly quiet on this one, what?
It should be investigated. The guilty should be punished. If Democratic politicians are to blame, their heads should roll.
I don’t think you’ll find many liberals who will disagree with that, J.M.

The Corps’ stupidity goes back for decades and continues to this day. And yes, if Dems are at fault their heads should roll as well.
I really don’t think either party has a lock on corruption or sainthood. Yep, Delay is under indictment. Yep, 30 city workers in Chicago have been indicted by the feds…not including Dailey (yet).
This is not a “blame locals” thing here..it is a very sad story of corruption that wound up costing lives and massive property damage. Should the feds have a method in place to double check for corrupt local officials? Probably. Should such a method even be needed? Not in a perfect world, no..
Speaking of locals..the mayor of NO is saying that city is now facing 50% layoffs. Isn’t this the same person that said thousands were murdered in the Super Dome? (false). Isn’t he the same person that said the body count would be 10,000? (again, false). Can he be believed on the layoffs? He might be more believable if he would check facts before speaking publicly…
After the “500 year flood” all we heard was how the flood control systems were a bad idea and if we didn’t let the rivers run naturally, we would eventually regret it.
People will continue to build in the worst places, then blame the Government for not protecting them when they get trashed by mother nature.
It wasn’t the “base” that gave way. So much for “that” report…next.
