An exasperated Attorney General Phill Kline told The Eagle editorial board this week that people assume abortion is all he focuses on because “that’s all you guys want to talk about.” Yet his spokesman later said Kline was pleased with the article in the November issue of GQ magazine titled “This man will do anything to stop abortion,” which calls him the “most aggressive abortion litigator in the land” and the “future of the pro-life movement.” If Kline is trying to distance himself from abortion, he’s failing.
Some prime Kline quotes from the article:
“When we apply a utilitarian measure to human life — ‘Do I want to have this baby?’; ‘Can I afford to have this baby?’ — it permeates all our thinking to the point where it undermines our ability to protect the inherent rights of the most vulnerable people in society. The disabled and the elderly and so on. To me, this is a foundational political issue.”
“In Genesis 2:19, after God has created all that is beautiful and wondrous in the world, He turns to Adam and says, ‘You name it, all of it.’ Think of the power that imparts, the faith that expresses. God serving what He has created. Amazing.”
“I think abortion has created a deep and abiding national shame and hurt that cannot find healing. And shame is a terrible thing to feel. Quite honestly, I think this is why when abortion is condemned in the political realm, there is such aggressive anger in response.”
“The most frustrating part of my job is the cheapness of the public discourse when it comes to abortion, the way it drives the people who have public roles to extremes — the fear it creates that you can’t concede even an iota of reasonableness in any argument made by anyone on the other side. There’s no room for doubt. It’s all about who wins the argument, which is just moronic.”

Kline should do his preaching on Sunday and at least look like he is doing the job he was elected to the rest of the time.
Phill, God bless him, is his own worst enemy most of the time.
Did anyone really think that Phil Kline had anything else in mind when the religious right elected him to office?
Kansas in the News:No time to comment, but here’s a quick rundown on national news topics originating in Kansas! Hey, this is big news to us. How many are you familiar with? Includes links to Phil Kline on BTK leak. At Bloggin Outloud. lgp
It’s probably to soon to decide whether to support Phill Kline or Paul Morrison for Kansas Attorney General in the 2006 elections. However, there are good reasons to consider Paul Morrison.
First, Morrison is a genuine person, intent on upholding the law. He would not bring a personal agenda to the position as has been the case in the Kansas Attorney General’s position during the past several years.
Paul Morrison is currently a solid prosecutor for Johnson County with a record of accomplishment in prosecuting a number of important murder cases. He is not a grandstander.
It’s unfortunate Mr. Morrison has to change political parties to challenge an incumbent in his own party to beat the lethargy of the voters to examine the real issues.
Hey Wink,He’s not Kline! What other qualifications does he need?
Jed: You are right. Paul Morrisonis an excellent county prosecutor in real life, respected by other Kansas county prosecutors and law enforcement officers.
On the other hand, Phill (with 2 L’s) Kline is a politician and was never a county prosecutor before being elected to his present state job.
Phill Kline is one of the best exhorters I have ever heard. Its a real experience watching Phill give his canned speech, “one against 100,” or “ten against 1,000″ or whatever. In minutes, with voice rising until he is on par with a gorilla in the jungle bellowing for a new mate, Mr. Kline manages to electrify his uninitiated audiences. Next time you see him on the street, ask him to give the speech for you!
In any case, Mr. Kline is searching for truth and trying to do right as he sees it. However, its time for Kline to find a church or private non-profit organization and stop taking Kansas taxpayers’ money to support his political agenda.
I didn’t know much about Kline until after reading the piece in GQ. However, concerning his re-election, could it simply be that the good voters of Kansas actually WANT a grandstander who will fight the issues that they care about most? What if they do not want a simple unbiased prosecutor who lacks color and refrains from putting his own concious on the line, beside his name on that ballot?
If this is the case, which i believe it is, then either get out of Kansas or get used to Kline.
And he did give us the wonderful hairdresser/informant thing.Kind of gives you a warm fuzzy when you think of all those ladies looking for knot-heads.Right up there with CSI, I think.
