When Americans complain about the price of gas, somebody always steps up and reminds them how lucky they are not to be driving in Europe or elsewhere. This Washington Post story shows that citizens around the globe are feeling our pain this time, too, though the pump prices vary wildly — as do the government responses. Wonder how high the price would have to get before Americans protested in the streets, as Nigerians around that country ($1.74 a gallon) and farmers and truck drivers in Paris ($6.81 a gallon) have in recent weeks.

Just wait ’til that Suburban becomes the world’s most expensive yard ornament, and a real scream will arise from Tallgrass!
As long as the oil companies are making record profits, no amount of spin will justify the budget busting gasoline prices.
WOW…gasp…..now its a multinational conspiracy by evil companies to screw the common man around the globe…
Really?
There’s something about that sneer on Charles Krauthammer’s face that makes you want to take it off….with explosives.
The oil companies continue to rack up obcene profits and there’s nothing we can do about the price of gas. No sense in mentioning the obvious; elect people who will take a narrow view of price gouging and out-right robbery. It’s more important to elect people who will discriminate against women and gays and preach loudly while depleting the treasury.
So of all the gas whiners out there….who is on the waiting list for a prius? Who has really done anything to change thier consumption.
Fact is the the diffrence between $3 and $1 a gallon is less than then nicotine addiction that you have. its less than you spent at blockbuster last month…its less than you gave your kids to blow at the mall, its less than your cable subscription, its less than ….I could go on and on…..It isn’t the reason cowtown needs bailed out, and exploration place is a money pit….it just gives whiners another reason to whine and blame someone else about what is wrong without ever looking in the mirror and asking what can I do diffrent to reduce my own cosumption of oil. because it isn’t gouging when you are willing to pay it, and your willingness to pay is indicated by your complete complacence in changing anything about your lifestyle.
dr,No, it’s more than all but the Cox bill. As far as changing my lifestyle, I own a small four-banger that I bought so I could afford to go places. Thanks to the administration and all you Hummer image idiots, I still can’t afford to go places! I would love to change my lifestyle, but the current price of gas (now topping that of Pepsi)won’t let me!
dr,
If you’re trying to justify Iraq by trashing Keynesian Economics, you’re being less than honest. Money must circulate and if the price of gasoline is curbing other spending, no matter how small, then you’re costing people their jobs.
But maybe that misrepresentation is all you can offer to make the case for something that is killing our soldiers. Or perhaps suggesting that somehow lying that causes death has become a virtue.
Do not drive your car one day a week. It would make a difference and not hurt you that much. Try it for one week & see.
Yep, if you guys reduce your gasoline consumption, you will force the energy companies to raise prices to maintain profits. Y’all can’t win.
3 dollar gasoline.
The difference between 1 and 3 dollar gasoline is the price of crude oil. If you reduce consumption of gasoline, prices will need to increase to recover lost revenue to operate refineries, so “justaguy” is right about that.
Saudi Arabia raised oil production by over 1 million barrels per day, to flood the market in hopes of reducing crude oil prices, but oil traders, who buy and sell oil on the open market, { not oil companies} were not impressed.
So why is crude oil still hovering around 70 a barrel? When oil should be between 28 and 32 dollars a barrel? { covers the cost of drilling }
Supply and demand determine the price, and both are still in tact, so why won’t the price come down?
Is demand threatened? We’re still lining-up to buy. Is supply threatened? If so, in what way? Is something threatening both production and delivery?
Now once you get your minds passed “oil company greed” { which has nothing to do with it } maybe, just maybe, you’ll be able to figure it out?
Now tell me what you know. Thanks, Ed
Yes that’s me dr.I purposely drive an older gas guzzler, take extra trips, and drive like a madman, so I’ll be even poorer. I go clear out of my way to be economically screwed, just so I can whine.SO BE IRRITATED! ‘Cause it’s costing me a fortune to irritate you.
BTW
Our economy will crash without crude oil and crude oil is used to make everything from plastics to medicine.
Ed, I’m impressed.Nice post. (without your usual keywords)
Tracy
I can either say 2 and 2 is 4, or there are two equal numbers, which when added together equal 4.
And then just let you tell me what they are. It’s as though the 2’s have all ganged-up and said “if you use a 2″ then you’re a “2 hater.” That would make math a bit difficult, now wouldn’t it?
Gasoline needs to come down to a buck, as this current price is a real danger to everybody’s job. I’m serious, we Americans are all under siege and it’s not from “terrorism”
Thanks for the post, Ed
Price of Gasoline
Charles Krauthammer is a syndicated columnist and a pro-Israel Zionist Jew. He writes carefully in his “Israel can do no wrong” column so as to give the impression of presenting both sides of whatever issue might benefit Israeli Zionism. He’s a very good writer, both meticulously smart and devilishly clever.
He recently wrote a column entitled “Charles Krauthammer: Bad choice for an antiwar voice”.
There appears to be a certain haughtiness in this column, which tells America how naïve we are and he’s right about that and has a right to be haughty about it.
He doesn’t need to tell Americans that despite having a vast majority (perhaps over 200 million) in favor of leaving Iraq now, and all we can muster is Cindy Sheehan as our spokesperson, and how truly pathetic that makes us. He’s right about that. If we ask ourselves:
Where is the support from the members of our “House of Representatives,” who we elect to do our bidding?
Where is the support from of our “Senators” who we elect to do our bidding?
Where is the support from of our “President” who we elect to do our bidding?
Where is our “free press” our constitution guarantees? Why does it not support us?
Why is even the voice of Cindy Sheehan so muffled by the MSM?
We Americans are a nation of over 300 million and Israel has maybe 5 million and yet they have their say about staying in Iraq. How can that be true? Not only that, but how can Israel plan for the United States to attack both Syria and Iran?
We don’t want or need that to help drive-up the cost of gasoline.
When AIPAC, the Israeli Lobby, recently threw a party over half of our “Senate,” 2/3 of our “House” along with our “Secretary of state,” “Pentagon officials,” and most of “Washington” all showed-up to celebrate.
How can Israel, a small renegade country, dictate the foreign policy of the United States and pay-off
(own, bribe) our elected officials and do it with our money?
How can Israelis be allowed to have “dual citizenship” and vote in our elections? {the swing vote}
How can Israel direct our Armed Forces?
How does Israel have the right to draw-down money out of our Treasury?
Charles Krauthammer has every right to be haughty. He’s earned it.
Ed Friedemann, Carrollton, Texas, published { Arab News } 13 October 2005—–
From Haaretz: “Israel prefers an American operation”
“U.S. President George Bush is also so determined to lay down the law to the regimes in Damascus and Tehran, both of which face a sharp choice: to change their policy in the nuclear sphere and the support of terrorism, or to absorb an American military blow. A first, or even tenth, nuclear bomb in the Iranian arsenal is not comparable to the thousands of warheads at the disposal of the United States; but thanks to the deterrence they will accord, the terrorist organizations that are abetted by Iran are liable to perpetrate attacks that are more impertinent and lethal than ever.
When it comes to preempting Iran’s nuclearization, Israel prefers an American operation but the question of the identity that will do the job is preceded by a question of information: how far along is Iran in obtaining fissionable nuclear material, developing surface-to-surface missiles that can carry nuclear warheads, and weaving all these efforts into an operation force that will also be based on sophisticated command and control systems. When this question is put to research officers in Israel’s Military Intelligence, who rely also on other intelligence gathering agencies, notably the Mossad, they have two different replies, which refer to different layers of the Iranian activity.”
This is why your gasoline prices are going up, read the article in today’s paper, not here, over there.

NYT
MOSCOW, Oct. 15 – Russia’s leaders told Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Saturday that they did not support sending the issue of Iran’s nuclear program to the United Nations Security Council, and they reaffirmed their view that Iran had the legal right to enrich uranium.
The statements, by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and others, were a sharp setback for Ms. Rice’s efforts to reach a consensus on Iran’s nuclear program. The Iranians “have this right” to enrich uranium under the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, Mr. Lavrov said at joint news conference with Ms. Rice, who flew here on short notice for consultations on Iran and other issues before heading to London.
Condoleezza Rice represents the interests of Israel, therefore Israel ought to be paying her salary and giving her a place to live.
Treason is a serious crime in the United States, so why doesn’t our AG get off his ass and file charges?
Colin Powell is a true American and that’s why he quit the Secretary of State job, rather than do the Treasonous bidding of George W. Bush at the direction of Ariel Sharon.
The Bush/Sharon & cabal is busy distracting us with this nonsense “Iraq constitution” while Rumsfeld/ Rove neocons are moving US Troops to the Iraq-Syrian border in preparation for a slow invasion of Syria.
The American People would throw a fit if they knew they were again being “had.” They’ll find-out soon enough when “all Hell breaks loose,” as Iraq/Pakistan/Russia won’t sit still for this crap.
Condoleezza Rice made a quick trip to Russia to see Putin in order to test the water about a neocon Syria invasion. Looks like Putin told the bitch to go to hell.
Poor bitch, and after she went to all the trouble to destabilize Lebanon’s friendship with Syria and try to set Lebanon against Hisbollah, which is Lebanon’s Army.
Hisbollah defeated Israel and ran them out of Lebanon. Israel is deathly afraid of Hisbollah.
When Putin ran her off, crude dropped a couple of bucks.
Dear Editor/s:
It really comes as no surprise to me when the core index of consumer prices recently was reportedly to have only risen only .1 %.
Despite this, all the financial news reports are rightfully awash with anticipated fears of inflation. This is in spite of core prices holding the line; …oil and fuel not withstanding.
The real news how be it overlooked and totally unreported is that the Fed is selling T-Bills at an ever escalating pace.
The Fed has not really begun to flood the market with treasuries; … not at a rate which they must when the bills come in for the recent storms.
Because of this, the Fed will need to make these suckers (T-Bills) as attractive as they can in order to increase demand for them.
Past reliance upon increased barrowing is now causing the Fed to scramble even faster and more pressed than ever to make its budget obligations. In shot, the Fed now need all the money it can get its hands on.
Its like reducing prices at a garage sale late Saturday afternoon in order to liquidate the remaining merchandise.
Simply put, lower prices to attract investment in a flooded marker have the effect of raising yields.
Lower prices; ….higher yields. What could be simpler to understand? Treasury’s set the benchmark for all other financial institutions ….NOT The PRICE of OIL.
The real new story is who is wagging this dog’s tale here? Big Oil or the Fed. The American public is not all this naïve and deserves to know who’s doing the wagging here.
The way I see it, the Fed has neither an effective policy nor a plan to deal with higher fuel prices. Much worse, the Fed is also incapable of doing anything about higher interest rates as it sets the pace with its record barrowing.
Blaming its monetary policy (higher interest rates) on fears of run away inflation fueled by higher energy and fuel prices should be put into proper perspective. This is simple buck passing and it’s a deceitful bold face lie. Only Greenspan is willing to elude to our dire straights.
It will be interesting to see how Tuesday’s CPI and the PPI releases compare with earlier months.
The American public can ill afford to be continually misled like this. Isn’t about time we insist upon a more fiscally balance approach; …one which is capable of a proud, honest and responsible approach.
Regards,
Bill Landman
Bill
Bush is only the front man for the cabal of neocons running the government for Israeli expansion interests.
The latest farce is the misdirection { propaganda } by the MSM about that worthless piece of paper called the Iraq constitution. It governs nothing, but serves as a diversion away from the movement of US troops setting-up to expand Israel’s war by invading Syria.
Rice has been busy working for Israel to destabilize Lebanon’s government and Hisbollah, which is Lebanon’s Army. Israel is deathly afraid of Hisbollah, who defeated Israel and ran the Zionists back across Lebanon’s southern border back into occupied Palestine.
There couldn’t be a worse time for America to have an airhead like Bush talking orders from Israeli Zionists, and bankrupting America in the process.
