The Other Views feature on Friday’s Opinion pages excerpts an editorial from Al-Ahram Weekly in Cairo, Egypt. In its entirety, the editorial is a sobering primer on what the Arab world views as the United States’ numerous sins, from its long support of “a racist state founded on a religious basis” to its having gone to war in Iraq “on the basis of a lie.” Clearly, Karen Hughes has her work cut out for her.

The truth hurts.
Rhonda
There’s really no great mystery here.
The so-called Arab perception is merely a review of facts.
Karen Hughes is traveling to the Middle East not to understand the Arab point of view, but rather to placate them.
Karen understands every aspect of that Arab editorial, and, as with the Gaza pull-out, her function is that of a diversionary tactic. The way a thief throws a piece of meat to distract the guard dogs.
While the world was watching the “Gaza pull-out” Sharon grabbed twice the Gaza amount of Palestinian land in the West Bank and expanded new “settlement construction” ten-fold. He’s now busy “walling -in Jerusalem { with a “fence” er, 21 foot tall concrete “fence” }.
George W. Bush gave Ariel Sharon an antique map of “greater Israel” which stretches all the way from the Nile River in Egypt to the Euphrates River in Iraq. That’s the plan and Karen Hughes is nothing more than a mere pawn. An exercise in slight-of-hand.
As thieves often do, Sharon/Bush/Rove/Rumsfeld/cabal over stepped themselves with that nuclear threat to Iran and oil shot-up to 70 dollars a barrel { 3 dollar gasoline } and America’s working stiffs started to pay attention. Worse yet, America’s working stiffs started to investigate and Bush’s approval rating went through the floor, as they began to see the real picture.
The quick-fix that that God-awful ugly can-of worms Rice tried to put on the problem flunked, Putin told her to make friends with the door, so voila, yonder cometh Karen Hughes bearing gifts of mirth and whatever the other thing is.
World conquest is a tricky business, or when you’re an unwanted guest in the oil patch…..a pretty sticky business.
Oh, and that smell?
That’s victory.
We’ve spent the better part of the 20th century and what we’ve had of the 21st handing our middle-east policy over to people who regard it as an exploitable resource. Did we really expect it not to bite us in our neocolonialist ass? Our entire policy in the middle-east has been based on 5 words: WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME? Are we still shocked when people refuse to bend over and allow us to “service their account?”
Sometimes it takes me half of the 21st century to get through some of Ed’s posts.
Tracy,That’s what the scroll wheel’s for! You only need to read one of his posts to know what his answer will be on anything- the zionists did it!
Ok, My Siamese cat’s name is ” Twinkie ” and she reads all my posts, over my shoulder. So there, short enough?
{ I think she’s a Buddhist }
Are you sure twinkie isn’t a zionist spy? Reading your posts is pretty suspicious!
Why do we give money to a country that manufactures items that are in direct competition with US items. Four billion plus dollars the last I heard. Off to KC to gamble the rent money. lol
Jed
Twinkie considers the Middle East to be the World largest “sandbox.”
She wants bullets to stop fying around in a olace where a kitty ought to be able to relax and take care of “business.”
With all our troubles here at home, why is Bush using White House time and energy to wreck Syria’s economy? By what stretch of the imagination could that benefit the United States.
The effort is centered around who murdered an Ex-Prime Minster of Lebanon. What does that have to do with America……Nothing, and has no importance on the world’s stage. That’s between Syria and Lebanon if it happened at all, which it didn’t. Syria has absolutely nothing whatsoever to gain by the ex-Prime Minster’s death.
Not only is the White House burning valuable time, which should be spent solving problems here at home in America, but rather involving itself on this non-issue. Bush’s neocon “plant” in the UN, John Bolton, is scurrying around to drum-up a Security Counsel vote to put economically wrecking sanctions on Syria, a country where most of the people are barley eating.
{ Remember the sanctions that deprived medications to Iraqi children and was directly responsible for thousands of children’s deaths? }
All this, while Ariel Sharon doesn’t let a day go by without murdering some Palestinians for being merely ” suspected ” of something.
Sharon especially likes killing the “suspected” children.
While Karen Hughes is busy lying her way through the Islamic world her lovely “war” in Iraq, American war planes are busy dropping tons of bombs on Iraq civilians. Hughes is a much needed distraction from the carnage taking place.
America just barely hides behind a “skirt” when it murders but the Israeli Mossad is altogether different. They’re slick.
When The Israeli Mossad kills it leaves a signature. Organization, timing, execution, motive, and an Arab fall guy.
When they killed Yassa Arafat with an exquisite platelet destroying drug, they simply when to Arafat’s wife and told her that if she demanded an autopsy, they would have the United States declare Arafat’s money as “terrorist money” and confiscate it. She would get nothing. That’s why no autopsy was ever preformed and she refused to talk to anyone about it.
When Mossad bombed the London Tube, the bomb-timers were so sophisticated that those bombs all went off at exactly the same time. When The Arabs tried the next week to bomb again, their timer didn’t even work. But Arabs still caught the blame, as with the Madrid attacks as well..
Only the Mossad could have trained those men to fly multi-engine Jet Aircraft and hit the center of the WTC buildings. That training did not and could not have taken place in the United States. There were several difficult sharp tight turns, airspeed and altitude problems that those aircraft had to make and without hours of training in Jet Aircraft they would not have been able to hit the center of those buildings with such precision. Even “flight-simulators” are not enough for that type of precision flying.Notice that both towers collapsed within minutes of each other, so engineers had to have previous knowledge about those weak support beams in advance, with specific stress calculations as to what was needed where to hit those buildings in order to bring-down both towers. The fuel from the aircraft burned-off immediately and the fires were being fueled by office equipment and structural walls.9/11 was away over Arab clumsiness.
With all of the havoc wreaked upon Arabs since 9/11 they would have struck-back long before now, if they had any capability, but with Arabs having none, all we get are false alarms. Those false alarms, though, do keep people edgy.
Only the Mossad had the needed expertise and could have pulled-off 9/11. Only Israel had anything to gain and they have gained plenty. Check the scoreboard.
