Wichitan Kathy Deane created this satirical opposition to the north site for a downtown arena, which could require tearing down the Old Mill Tasty Shop on Douglas.

Oh my, where will the rich people and the “in” crowd go for lunch!?
How awful!!! All that mess, just to make room for a great big box to hold the riff-raff in after the next tornado rips through. It’s just too awful to think about.
There’ll be rapes and murders and gun battles just like in the Superdome and they’ll be barbecuing corpses in there.
At least they’ll have something to eat. Poor dears.
The only shop left standing on that block. I believe the rest are pretty empty. Including the Spaghetti Warehouse. Which I believe that parking lot would be a great place for a parking garage for the new Arena. Then you can have a pedetrian bridge connecting it to a one of the enterance to the arena, located on the North side of Douglas.
:)
“rich” people? Are we talking about the same inexpensive place with quick service, good food and a preserved atmosphere? I have eaten there twice, didn’t see anyone dropped off by limo, didn’t see anyone wearing Armani suits or Gucci loafers.”Rich”? Just people who have jobs and want lunch…no need to castigate hundreds of people based on some innaccurate generalization.
Puny Nero–
How about one of those raps about Bush-haters?
I thought you Bush-kissers respected small business like the Old Mill Tasty Shop.
I guess you only respect them as long as they don’t get in the way for a Roman coliseum for gladitorial contests to entertain the wealthy.
Nero, indeed.
Sheesh…a local restuarant is also politicized by party? It is simply good food at a reasonable price…didn’t know that had party affilition overtones…
“barbecuing corpses”? Man, I’m getting hungry! What kind of sauce?
Prediction: The ‘powers’ will chose either the North or West site. These are the two WORST options. North wipes out thriving businesses and West will close Market and access to the downtown business district.
I find it interesting (and amusing) that they are now saying the Arena needs to be propped up by WaterWalk or Old Town and that it will not spur any development on its own. That isn’t what they were saying when they were campaigning for it!
The Communists will put their “state ownership of the means of production” arena whereever they want to. The people be damned!
Thats horrible. I love that place!
I must be missing something. An arena is a big, ugly, forlorn, concrete chunk that squats all over a big area of downtown, it is usually empty, and occasionally hosts big shows and events that few of us can even afford the parking fee for.
Why is it important that it be in walking distance of Goose Mountain?
