Throw the book at nursing-home owners

I’m glad that the owners of St. Rita’s Nursing Home near New Orleans, where 34 residents died awaiting evacuation, have been charged with negligent homicide. So should some other nursing-home operators and businesses who were entrusted to care for vulnerable citizens, yet didn’t. An estimated 70 percent of the New Orleans area’s nursing homes were not evacuated, The New York Times reported, even though they are required by law to have detailed evacuation plans and signed evacuation contracts with private transportation companies. Throw the book at them.

I’d like to see some consequences for the Galena police force.

I’d like to see some more facts on this particular issue. It’s apparent that people got abandoned. I’d like to know why. Half of the residents were evacuated. If it’s an issue of the employees bailed out and left the residents when the water crashed through the windows, that would be different than if they just walked away and left them. When the fit hits the shan, it’s every man for themselves. Not very brave, but everybody isn’t John Wayne.

I do think the owners have some serious explaining to do.

Why throw the book at the nursing home owners?

This is the “free market system” in all its glory–profit for me, screw you.

Conservatives should be happy gov’t didn’t get in the way of letting old folks die–remember Reagan who wanted to get gov’t off the backs of the American people.

Well, he did. And now you can walk away from a nursing home full of old folks because nobody’s watching to make sure you don’t.

Too bad, so sad. But it’s what the conservatives voted for . . .

Now they can contract the burials to one of those southern funeral homes that just hides the bodies somewhere. Yuk.

They ought to charge the Mayor and City COuncil for failing to take care of the things that they’d committed to in writing.

Hey, lets slow down a bit. There’ll be plenty of time to throw books, and anything else we might have on hand, AFTER we’ve got all the facts. I’m sure there will be more targets than books come out of this mess, so save your ammo until you’ve got a bead on the right one!

I totally agree with what you’re saying. I wish more people felt this way and took the time to express themselves. Keep up the great work.
