Not-so-soft bigotry of low expectations?

Barbara Bush’s ability to shoot from the lip made her more endearing than her brittle husband when she was first lady, but she scored no such points with this observation after her Astrodome tour Monday: Calling it “sort of scary” how many of the evacuees from New Orleans want to stay in Texas, she added, “and so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this is working very well for them.”

The kerfuffle over Barbara Bush’s comment is only meaningful to gossipy people who like to tear down others.

The fact is that the scene probably was scary, and that for many of those poor people who were put there, the accomodations would indeed work well for them.

Mrs. Bush’s comments were clearly meant in the nature of uncertain hopefulness, not of denigration.

This is a good example of how the anti-Bush media and class baiters always try to make issues out of nothing.

She did not say that the scene was scary, she said that the number of those evacuees that want to stay in Texas is scary. Those two statements are ENTIRELY different!

I don’t know how anyone can say these accomodations would “work well” for anyone. It is great that these people were able to be evacuated, but to say that the situation would be good for them since they were “underprivileged anyway” is very rude and disrespectful in my opinion. I am sure that these people would much rather be back in their normal “underprivileged” daily life, in their own homes, than to be crammed in with a bunch of other people in shelters far away from home and everything that is familiar to them.

After three days of national coverage, the Director of FEMA said” We were never offically notify”. After four days of national coverage, the secretary of homeland sercurity said “No one told us it was that bad.”.

For some reason when I read what mrs. Bush said I chuckled. I guess along with blame, there is no shortage of stupid things to say.

I’ve believed the little people, who live paycheck to paycheck were never a priority to Bush’s politics. His mothers statements helps to explain the reasons why. You learn things like this at your mothers knee.

“and so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this is working very well for them.”

Yup, those lucky, lucky hurricane survivors. They lost everything but forced relocation to Texas is “working very well for them.”

Spin it however you want, Bush boot-licks, the fact is that “our nation’s grandmother” is a royal rich b*tch.

People who know her personally, liberal and con, say she’s really not a very nice person.

Laura Bush, her daughter-in-law, compared her to the head of a Mafia family, “she’s like Don Corleone from ‘The Godfather.’”

    Indeed.

Mrs. Bush’s comments are just another example of what happens when nonprofessionals are handed the mike, and why the President keeps his comments so simple and repetitive. It is is good that the president’s parents are visiting the underprivileged refugees–excuse me, evacuees–while he visits the more privileged ones.

Also, is it true that Chief Justice Rehnquist actually died last Wednesday, but FEMA didn’t find him until Saturday?

    Amazing!

Every day more and more facts come out about the incompetence and stupidity of the state and local governments in La. We now know that much of the death and suffering could have been prevented if the mayor with the help of the governor would have implemented the forced evacuation plan in a timely manner.

The left is now reduced to twisting the words of the president’s mother to attack the administration.

    Disgusting!

    Typical of Rhonda’s bias.

Time was, we could expect noblesse oblige: the idea that the privileged were duty-bound to give back in the form of public service. The Roosevelts (Teddy and FDR) and the Kennedys were the model.

Now we have Barbara Bush sniffing that those miserable poor should be grateful for how the government is improving their lives by warehousing them in the Astrodome.

Hank’s whining and spinning to the contrary, Barbara Bush’s words are what’s disgusting, and not my pointing them out.

You might check on Kennedy’s idea of ‘public service’. He seems to think that means you can service women in public.

You might check on the fact that the Kennedy family gave three sons to public service: two to assassins, one to a war.

The Bush family takes, and takes, and takes–they have given NOTHING to this country. Zilch.

May I gently remind Hank of Laurie Klaustis, the intern who died in then-U.S. Representative Joe Scarborough’s (R-FL) office. The coroner who ruled her death ‘accidental’ (despite trauma to the head) gave $1000 to the Scarborough campaign, and was later dismissed from his office.

So, moral of the story: it’s Ok to have alleged extramarital affairs in which the young woman ends up dead, when you’re a Republican.

    All together, folks: IOKIYAR

None of which has anything to do with the real point: the Bush crime family is dedicated to the preservation of its class privileges, and milking the Federal government for whatever it can get.

Hank,While New Orleans government hasn’t been perfect many of the media have outright lied about matters. The washington post quoted an “anonymous senior white house official” to say falsely that “[a]s of Saturday [September 3], [Louisiana Gov. Kathleen] Blanco still had not declared a state of emergency.”

    http://mediamatters.org/items/200509060009

When in fact this was declared on August 26th, before Bush had even declared it a federal emergency.

The people who he visited in his photo ops still didn’t have food or water days after his vist.

While the administration was saying they couldn’t get to the people, Walmarts was driving a truck of supplies into the area.

I am still trying to figure out how this thread segued from Barbara Bush to the Kennedys…?

But, since we’re bringing up presidents from the past, Richard Nixon said that GHW Bush was the “sort of person you appoint to office” rather than an elected official. Nixon did not appear to think much of the elder Bush. However, when it came to Barbara Bush, he spoke more admiringly; saying that “she knows how to hate.”

I don’t think Nixon was as bad a president as he was portrayed; he may have been a worse person than he was made out to be, though. But I have wondered if the current resident of the White House will more to rehabilitate Nixon’s image than anybody ever has?

I previewed it. Must have been a Freudian slip and consistent with my view that this president doesn’t DO much of anything. G.W. is a descendent of Franklin Pierce (14th POTUS; 1853-1857) arguably the worst president of the 19th century and maybe for all time. Pierce was one of Barbara’s ancestors.

Hoo HAH I ran hank off again! I hope he uses his early weekend to do some remedial work in spelling.

OH! He meant DISCIPLE! You’d think he’d get it right. For while I am not a disciple of anyone…..(sorry CF……..gonna miss ya at the congregation jed) Hank is a confessed disciple of Sean Hannity (aka Gone sanity) and Rush limbaugh (aka Rash Laimbrain)

Just wanted to sort that out.

The apple don’t fall far from the tree. I’m not surprised by the boorish insensitive comments by Barbara Bush. She shows the world herself in her son. Thus it can be truly said that in the long list of ……uh reproachments to bush felt by fully half the population of America and indeed a large portion of the world, the rejoinder can be added “and so is your mama!”

Barbara Bush is an upperclassless boob. Her comments about those in the shelter rival “them let them eat cake”

Uh……Tracy? Your (Mr spell check) reference? I did not mis-spell. Maybe I cited something you are unfamiliar with.

In the days before the French Revolution, Marie Antionette was told “the people have no bread”. She responded, “Let them eat cake”Now Tracy sicne clearly I have so far be-fuddled you, let me continue to TRY and furt enlighten you. The “let them eat cake ” quote, which I did not mis-spell, tells us that Marie Antionette, felt that those who had no bread should eat cake. This doesnot mean cupcakes, bithday cake, or ice cream cake. “cake” was the burned remnants left on the bakers pan in production of bread. Up to speed Trace?

Anybody got a link to the shrubs remarks that “anyone who questions my actions oughtta be ready to take on My Mom in a flak vest”?
