Ex-Westar execs will be doing perp walk

We have long suspected that former Westar Energy executives David Wittig and Douglas Lake were crooks. Nonetheless, we were pleasantly surprised that a federal jury found them guilty Monday of looting the state’s largest utility. The way so many corporate cases go these days, we feared that the duo might end up walking. But unless their convictions are tossed on appeal, they will be doing a well-deserved perp walk.

Wouldn’t it be appropriate if Wittig and Lake, instead of spending their sentences in some white-collar spa, should be put into a squirrel cage hooked to a generator, and were made to run until they’d generated enough juice to pay back every cent they stole from their customers and shareholders? Might take a while, but it could be televised on the internet for the benefit of those who want to make bets on their performance, and the edification of future corporate criminals.

And now that a couple of them have gotten smacked, watch for the other roaches to come crawling out from under with a plea-bargin deal.

This is excellent. Their sentence should be for them to repay all the customers who were disconnected while they were gouging the company.

Excellent! It took them long enough.

Prison they will be! (Yoda voice)

This is great news! I guess those two didn’t invest enough of their skimmings in the bush campaign to get the Ken Lay treatment!

Democrats Joe? I don’t know about that. We do know that they are on Tom DeLay’s list of best friends and supporters.
