Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., has reactivated his political action committee — Straight Talk America — signaling that he might make another run for president in 2008. But a local political observer told me, "He’ll get waxed in the primaries, despite a love affair with the press." Do you agree? Can a candidate get the GOP nomination without the blessing of the religious right?

The good thing is that now George W. Bush probably (who knows, though) won’t smear McCain in the primaries by telling voters on the phone that McCain went crazy in Vietnam, and has an illegitmate black child.
Next time you see a “W” on back window of a car, think of that. That’s your George W. Bush. The man who dodged the Vietnam draft and hates Vietnam vets.
(By the way, ever see that debate where McCain called him on it? Boy did “W” look sheepish! Classic!)
Hey GetReal, you forgot one small detail. Besides dodging the Vietnam draft and disrespecting Vietnam vets, he also doesn’t mind sending other peoples’ children off to die in a meaningless war. Maybe Jenna and Barbara would like to go to Iraq and drive a truck for Halliburton. And then again, maybe not. A person could get a really nasty gunshot or schrapnel wound over there.
I remember reading something about the “illegitimate black child”. She’s actually his adopted daughter from India, right? Who was responsible for that particular smear campaign, anyway?
Yeah, I haven’t heard the reason why the Bush twins won’t enlist in this important War. Everyone’s making sacrifices - stop loss policies are cancelling leaves and retirements, and recruiting is down. The least they can do is enlist, and help out in this bold and noble stuggle. We’re fighting for our freedom, and the armed forces need every able bodied person they can fighting the terrorists over there, so they won’t have to fight them here. That’s what our President says.
What’s their answer? Why won’t they set the example?
Who’s responsible for the smear campaign on McCain? GW Bush and Karl Rove. I wasn’t making that up. They really did it.

Stand up for yourselves. This is wrong, and so are they.
They won’t set an example becuase they have been raised by the mantra of “Do as I say, not as I do.” Same goes for Mary Cheney. She is old enough to set an example. Maybe she can help construct human pyramids at Abu Grahib prison or taunt Iraqi men in their underwear.
McCain has gone out of his way to alienate much of the right wing of the Republican party. The press loves him, but no way he makes it thru the Republican primaries.
I agree with Bisoni. McCain will never make it through the Republican Primaries. Republicans hate war vets.
Did Sen. Frist or Brownback ever serve in the armed forces? If not, either one is a shoo-in. Republicans love chickenhawks.
Gotta agree with Hammer and Bisoni, but I’ll take it a step further: Republicans hate Republicans who arn’t Republicans.
Go McCain! I hope he runs again. He is a fine candidate. Although Liberals don’t like him. Many people do!
Joe, once again…..oh, why bother.I’m a Liberal and I like John McCain just fine. What is it with you and the “L” word? Do you know what a Liberal really is? I ask because some of your comments border on Liberal (which is the reason I don’t “flame” you…you sound like one of us sometimes).
I agree, John McCain is moral, sincere, courageous, and self sacrificing. When he had the opportunity to be released as a POW because of the clout his dad had, he refused because “it wasn’t his turn to go”. He refused to let the North Vietnamese use him as a propaganda tool, even though it would’ve given him a ticket home. I’ll vote for him anyday, he has more values than Bush or Clinton put together.
The reason why I say “Liberal” all the time, because Liberals use “Right Wing or Republicans” in a negative context, so I’m going to do the same to the word “Liberal”
People want the word “Liberal” to be an enlighting word. An ideology that should not recieve any critisim at all. “Liberalism” is the way to perfection. If you disagree with Liberalism or if you are not a Liberal, then you are an idiot or ignorant…. This is the perception that I’m recieving from “Liberals” on this blog.
I will say that it does go both ways. Conservatives do the same thing. But I’m not a Liberal or a Conservative and do not inspire to be such. I’m your average American.
The majority of people have what is called ‘aggregate views’ of beliefs and thoughts. Meaning they go all over the place in the ideology spectrum.
You can have a person who is Pro-union, lower-taxes, pro-choice, pro-gun, against the dealth penalty, and etc. Some of it is liberal views, some of it is conservative views.
I lean pretty hard towards Libertarism, because I love freedom most of all. I’m not for sure if that is considered moderate, mainstream, or maybe I’m in the exterme leauge of ideology. I’m not for sure. But I know I really love freedom and individual responsiblity and potential.
I’m far from being a Liberal. I disagree with thier ideology and policies. I believe it is not in the best interest of people. Same goes to Conservatives who want to change this nation into a theocracy. I strongly disagree with them.
I can give you two names of people in Congress who are the absolutly the worst ever. That is Tom Delay and Nancy Pelosi. Especially Tom Delay. That guy is a real evil, condesending, and a very dangerous person.
There are Republicans and Democrats that I like. I really like McCain. He is a good and legitimate guy trying to do the right thing. I like Democrats like Bill Clinton (by the way, he is NOT a liberal, although liberals say he is. He is NOT)
I like Bill Clinton because he is pro-business, pro-free trade, pro-international, pro-reform, he did a lot to reverse a lot of liberal policies that were in place. He knew it was bad for the country and many moderate Republicans knew it as well, that is why he worked well with the Republican Congress.
I don’t mind that people are Liberal or Conservative or Libertarian. Even though I’m a libertarian, do I want them to take absolute control of government? Of course not. Absolute power corrupts absolutly as the old saying goes.
I believe we need a good mixture of Liberals, Conservatives, Libertarians, and Mixture Moderates is government. We need understanding, good debates, and compromises. Not ideological mandates.
Once again Joe, I dissagree with you, but not completely. Liberals are much more likely to accept your right to dissent than conservatives. Notice it’s conservatives that are the first to scream “Traitor” anytime someone dissagrees with them, thus poisoning the dialog. But I accept your self-discription as a Lbertarian. You come too close sometimes to making sense to be a conservative. I still suspect you have some Liberal tendencies, though.
I agree with your judgment of both DeLay and Pelosi. I can’t see where either ons serves the nation’s intrest.
McCain, among the bad, he’s about as good as they get.
Clinton, among the good, they’re about as bad as they get.
Someday, when we get special interest money out of campaigns and wealthy corporations to stop feeding at the taxpayer expense, we’ll get the leaders we deserve.
Unfortunately, that day is still a long way off.
Joe,
Just out of curiosity, what is it about Nancy Pelosi don’t you like?
What is it about “liberalism” that you don’t like? Be specific, and mention why these policies are bad for America.
I’m genuinely interested in people’s views on these types of labels, and what they’re based on.
McCain is clown! He is an open borders, wetback loving traitor and he wants more Americans to fight, kill and die for the jews and israel in Iran!
