‘Whatever that is’ indeed

Beyond calling her nominated successor “first rate” and admitting to disappointment that the president didn’t pick a woman, retiring U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor made a potent point this week about the upcoming Senate Judiciary Committee hearings on the confirmation of John Roberts: They will be showtime for senators who want to look “erudite” by asking tough questions. (The stars will include Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., whose performance will be watched especially closely because of his presidential aspirations.) She added: “When you overlay that with the present concern of some members of Congress with judges who are being painted as activist, whatever that is, I think it is inevitable that there is going to be a lot of time spent on confirmation hearings.” Let’s hope it’s time well spent.

Brownback? My friends and I call him Sen. Brown-nose, because whatever Mr. Bush says, he says, “yasss, boss. you so right, boss.”

He’s going to ask a question like “should we repeal the law that will not allow us to put the portrait of a living President on the half-dollar so we can replace JFK with Bush?”

So was Justice O’Connor an “activist” judge when she voted with the 5-4 majority to install Bush in office in 2000?

If the vote was to install Bush into office, perhaps you could call it activism.

Since that was not what they voted on, you would be wrong Kelly.

I see Rhonda has toned down her rhetoric for “It must be a woman! A woman not a man!”

CF, Nathan is a perfect example of a Bush supporter–”the facts don’t matter, truth is whatever I say it is. . . “

And there’s the penchant of Bush supporters to drown out the views of anyone politically to the left of Gingis Kahn.

    Gentle people,

I am truly amazed! GWB twice has been elected president with more of the popular vote than any other pressident in history and there are left wing nitwits that continually post to the WE blog that use “Bush Supporter” as a pejorative term!

MY God people! Do you have any idea how small and petty that is! Get over yourselves! You are in the minority!

Republicans have continually gained more and more political office seats for the last 15 years. Nationally and State wide. Do you suppose, just maybe, that it might be that all you Kerry, Gore, any other liberal candidate you can think of, supporters have no answers? All you have is negative, anti-American, anti-serviceman crap to argue with.

The biggest left-wing nitwits on the Senate Judicial committee (Kennedy, Shumer, Durbin, Leahy) are going to turn the confirmation hearings on John Roberts into a circus. They have a list of questions that anyone that wants to be on the Supreme Court shouldn’t answer. Embarrasing, foolish, outlandish questions. They have a list of documents they are going to request from the DOJ that they have no need nor right to have. Requested only for the chance that they can justify a filibuster.

And Rhonda Holman is concerned about what Senator Brownback is going to ask!? Give me a break! And none of you left-wing, Bush hating nitwits can come up with any intelligent comments on the confirmation process.

    Sincerely,

    Hank

Boy Hank, that was quite a rant. Got your breath back yet?

“GWB twice has been elected president with more of the popular vote than any other pressident”

Um, Hank, Al Gore won more popular votes than Bush in 2000.

“They have a list of questions that anyone that wants to be on the Supreme Court shouldn’t answer. Embarrasing, foolish, outlandish questions. They have a list of documents they are going to request from the DOJ that they have no need nor right to have. Requested only for the chance that they can justify a filibuster.”

Hank, have you seen these lists and documents? I’ll bet Filibuster doesn’t even become an issue.

Boy Hank, your tone sure has changed. Now you’re screaming about “left-wing nitwits”? Have you checked your blood pressure? Probably not good for a man your age to get so excited.

Personally, I have no problem with Roberts. He’s a conservative appointed by a conservative president. He’s not as bad as it could have been.

Hank, in the meantime, please calm down…you’re frightening the chlidren, and I worry about you. What would the VFW do if their glorious leader keeled over?

    Hugs and Kisses,

    Hammer

    Dear Hammer,

Thanks for your concern. You may be softening a little.

    You wrote,

“Um, Hank, Al Gore won more popular votes than Bush in 2000.”

Yes gentle person he did, I said,

“… more of the popular vote than any other president in history…” the key word in this sentence was president. Algore will never be president. The Supreme Court has decided that it takes more that one crooked county in Florida to decide our nation’s leader.

Again, thanks for your concern about my health!

    I remain,

    Henry to you
