Thanks for keeping America free

Partisan reactions to the contrary, President Bush’s Fort Bragg address last week included one thing that everybody can agree and act on: "This Fourth of July, I ask you to find a way to thank the men and women defending our freedom by flying the flag, sending letters to our troops in the field or helping the military family down the street."

And I would ask that you protest going to war against a country that DID NOT attack us first ! How about we SUPPORT moving the troops OUT OF IRAQ and into the countries the terrorists were from ?

How about grabbing a clue! Almost everyone with a brain understands that withdrawing from Iraq at this point (whether you supported going in or not) would have disastrous consequences for the Middle East and the United States.

Jimmy,Newland makes a good point (one I’ve made myself in a couple of other posts). Agreed, it’s a little late now because we’re in Iraq and we’re most likely stuck there. Whether we like the comparison or not, Iraq is increasingly a lot like Viet Nam. We don’t have the support of the people (Iraqis), support is dwindling here at home, and we’re stuck in another quagmire. In the Gulf war, other countries paid about 80% of the cost of the war. Contrary to what the current administration tried to tell us, Iraqi oil isn’t paying for this one (or the cost of rebuilding), and we’re getting very little financial help from our partners.Serious question: How long do you think our economy can stand spending 4-5 billion a month on this war? Our deficits are already at dangerous levels, we depend on China to finance the deficit, for Gods sake. The trade deficit is stratospheric, and all our president can think of is more tax cuts.

Jimmy, I’ll make you a bet. I’ll bet that no matter what we do, when we leave Iraq, they’ll be worse off than they were when we invaded.(And Saudi Arabia will still be churning out terrorists and bankrolling them)

Hey Rhonda – how proud will you feel when we build a “Middle East” Memorial like the Vietnam Memorial? Would you tend to believe old soldiers then?

The US Government spends a whole lot more money than the war. The entire war cost about 6 days of tax collection the US Government recieves.

Pennies compared to what we pay for socialist programs at home.

Hey Joe? Those “socialist” programs you refer to help AMERICANS. Americans increasingly need help in a nation sick with corporate greed and exploitation. The war in Iraq helps no one except Hallburton, Bush, and people like you who wave a flag and capitalize on the suffering of others.

Joe, I’m with W.R. I’d like a list of those socialist programs.

Are you referring to the paved roads and highways you travel on? Are you referring to the fire departments that save your burning home? The police, who answer your call when your body or home is threatened? The EMS, who arrive at the scene of an accident (usually on those paved roads) to discover if you need medical assistance?

Just what “socialist programs” do you mean? We’re eager to know.

RD,I would assume he’s talking about programs like Social Security (let’s face it, those old folks that paid into the program all their lives are just going to die anyway…why waste the money) or Medicaid (survival of the fittest), or all the money we spend on those cry-baby veterans. Who do they think they are anyway? Do they realy think America owes them something?

America is a socialist country. Yeah! Social Security, SSDI, Farm Subsidies, Pork for no good reason, like a billion dollar bridge that goes no where. Lots of government jobs program. The government is the largest employer in the United States. I think that is wrong.

No! I’m not bagging on the seniors. They are though, the richest demographic group in the USA. Many paid very little into SS then what they recieve. I’m for private accounts, so I’m a little bias on the issue. Because what I pay in SS now, I won’t recieve anything, because it will be bankrupt by the time I retire.

There is a lot of redistribution of wealth in the USA. That is a socialist program. When any money is forcably taken from one person and given to another. Roads and public protection like Police, Fire Department, and the Military are there for everybody protection or use.

But what I pay into SS, doesn’t go to me or is saved. It is given to the current retiree.

SSDI is a program, rightly for some cause, but grossly abused is in the neighborhood of 500 billion dollars. The prescription drug program for Seniors will top 1.2 Trillion, yes.. Trillion by 2015.

If you think the war is expensive, you haven’t seen nothing yet.

Here in Kansas! You think school funding is a problem? If you read Sebulius’s report. Kansas is going to hurt big time in the next few years, because of medicaid and medicare. It is the second largest cost the state acrues, and rapidly increasing faster than education spending.

newland and w.r. make a damned stupid point. Running out on Vietnam the way the democrats forced us to leave cost hundreds of thousands of lives. Lie about it all you want you dishonest bloodsuckers. Those deaths are on the hands of leftist America haters. You cowardly democrats started the war and then boogied out when the heat was on. Your hero Kerry only lasted 4 months, what with his heroic scratches and all.

Class, all class; and I see nothing has changed since then.
