The Kansas State Board of Education could do its credibility a favor by subjecting members’ travel expenses to the full board for approval — especially after member Connie Morris’ $2,220 hotel bill from a Miami Beach conference. But a subcommittee, including Morris, has decided against recommending changes in travel policies. The status quo satisfies state law, but a show of special accountability shouldn’t be too much to expect of the board, which holds Kansas kids and schools more accountable by the year.

Here we go again. Rhonda has it bad for Connie Morris. I think she is fixated on Connie. She’s like most other journalist who are mad at the current state of affairs with Republicans and conservatives in control of most branches of government. She just choses to take out her frustrations on Connie Morris.
Why should’nt we hold schools, educrats and students more accountable ? They suck up nearly 2/3 of the states budget dollars. And what do we get for it ? The results thus far haven’t been very pretty.
The current rules are fully compliant with the law, so they need changing ? No, Rhonda just wants to root around for some more dirt to smear on Connie Morris and other conservatives and Republicans.
Rhonda, let us see your expense reports and your checkbook so we can see who you support politically. That way your readers can rest assured that we’re getting fair and unbiased reporting and opinions from the Wichita Eagle.
Will this fight ever “evolve” from mere politics? The intelegently designed method complys with the law so theer is no reason to change it. OTHER THAN TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT INSTEAD OF LOOK FOR POLITICAL COVER!
Wow, “Anon” – I can’t quite decide if your misspellings and typos were a tribute to those of Mrs. Morris, or if you’re really that stupid yourself. If you’re going to participate in things like this, at least try to do so in an intelligent and educated manner.
anon,
You misunderstood my point. The travel policies are what I meant was in complience with the present laws.
You politicize my reply by bringing in the evolution/intelligent design debate.
You sound like a knee-jerk liberal.
Actually I question, and many others, Connie Morris travel expense. People are not making claims that what she did was illegal, but if it was justified under taxpayers expense.
I don’t know Connie, but a lot of people take advantage of perks when it is on the governments bill. Connie’s trip to Florida was a conference on Magnet Schools and Magnet Programs.
The strange thing about it was that there is not one Magnet School in her district. Why did she go? What were the reasons? Even if she did have bona-fide reasons to go, I believe she also went, because she knew she could get a vacation out of it on taxpayers expense.
Anytime public dollars are spent, they should be accountable. I don’t disagree we should question her expenses. We should also question Winston Brooks and all the educrats in USD 259 and ask why we are getting such poor results from all the public dollars we pour into gummint skools.
What does having a magnet school in her district have to do with anything ? Is this some kind of progressive barometer to tell if we’re spending enough money ?
My first post was just my typical right wing knee-jerk reaction to Rhonda and her obvious obcession with Connie Morris.
“but a show of special accountability shouldn’t be too much to expect of the board”
So Rhonda is saying that Connie’s trip should be looked at more closely than other trips made by State Board of Ed. members?
Sounds like a political attack to me.
What are the exact details of this “hotel bill?”
Was she ordering 500 dollar meals from room service and the naughty channels?
Or was this in some way part of the fee for the conference?
Obviously Nathan doesn’t get out of the house much. Maybe he doesn’t want to disturb the foil on his windows that keep out the evil liberal mind control rays. A hotel bill is always billed separately from the cost of attending a conference. You should know this from attending focus on the family, promise keepers etc.
Wow, those wing-nuts get pretty upset when you criticize one of their own. The members of the legislature have a $700 cap on any travel for legislative business. I don’t see why members of the State Board can’t live with the same.
All I did was ask what the details were.
nice to see another friendly poster who cant seem to discuss the subject without the personal attacks, welcom uncle!
You will fit right in around here with all the others who like to make this personal.
Just practicing to become a republican, Nathan. Now go check the foil on your windows.
Why? Is the popcorn not getting cooked well enough for you?
If that was an attempt at sarcasm I can see why the Kansas Supreme Court found our public schools were underfunded.
Why?
Becuase you were never taught what sarcasm is?
“Becuase you were never taught what sarcasm is?”
Umm, no, because (recognize the correct spelling) it was an unsuccessful attempt. Nice try though.
Have fun blogging, those of us who benefitted from education are going to work.
Well, I guess you are as well, hope the drive through isn’t too busy.
I wouldn’t want to add any burden to your already busy day, working at the drive through, when I stop by for lunch…
Anyone with common sense would want to know the details of the $2,220. RH should have included a detailed list or provide a link to it. How about it?
Oh, I apologize for using words that were too big for you to understand.
I hoped the drive through wouldn’t be too busy for YOU, Nathan.
Keep working on your spelling and punctuation and someday you can be an assistant manager.
If I was your assistant manager I think I would be too inclined to fire you from working in the drive through…
Do any of you remember what the subject of this blog is about? Please stop jabbing each other with your dull wit and get back to the subject of accountability from our members of the State Board of Education.
Glad to get back to the point. Connie Morris is really the poster child for so called “conservatives”. Con gal Connie dips her hand deep in the trough of taxpayer funding (isn’t motel 6 good enough for someone supposedly concerned with taxpayer funds?) while she pursues her own agenda of forcing her own personal beliefs on others (a newsletter published at taxpayer expense that furthers her own religious ideal)I say Con Gal Connie should be conserative! She should spend her OWN money at high priced hotels. And she should CONSERVE her view to herself.
I totally agree JR
What accoutability? Kind of like the Wichita police and the DA’s office to investigate and charge officer’s misconduct. Clique is clique no matter where you go in government.
