Maybe Eric Rudolph will grow a conscience in prison. But don’t count on it, judging from the former fugitive’s defiance in a Birmingham, Ala., courtroom Monday. In any case, Rudolph will have lots of time — the two life terms he was given Monday, with more to come — to ponder how his claim to be a devout Christian fits with his murderous bombings of two abortion clinics, a gay bar and the 1996 Olympics.

To the Americans who complain about Muslims who do not condemn “Islamic” terrorists:They don’t see suicide bombers as Islamic anymore than Christians (like myself) see Rudolph as a “Christian” terrorist. They’re wackos period.
That they commit their heinous crimes in the name of some religious ideal in no way makes the rest of us (who believe in that relgion) culpable.
When Jerry Falwell apologizes for Rudolph, then and only then can we ask some Imam or Ayatollah to apologize for Osama . . .
Saudi, Israeli studies show most foreign fighters were not terrorists before Iraq war.

You’re right, Ed. That’s what I’ve been researching lately, “what makes a terrorist bomber?”
Answer–occupation of land that they consider “theirs.” That explains the Irish Republican Army, the Palestinians, the Tamils in Sri Lanka, the Algierians against the French, and the ARABS AGAINST THE AMERICANS–WHEN WE STATIONED TROOPS IN SAUDI ARABIA IN 1991.
They don’t hate us for our freedoms–they hate us for militarly occupying their holy land (Mecca and Medina).
How stupid can we get? That’s how stupid the Bush presidencies were and are. Clinton shares some blame too–he could have gotten us out of there too.
Has anyone considered that christan terrorist training camps exist right here in the old US of A? I think they’re called military bases. Between Rudolf and McVey, they’ve got a fair death toll.
The difference between these acts by “Christians” and those of the “Islamic” faith are numbers.
Yeah, there are “Christian” who do these things, but not nearly the same number of “Islamic” people.
When we see “Christians” killing themselves on a weekly or daily basis in the name of God then we can start comparing the two.
Let me clarify that I, as a Christian, do not condone these acts by so called “Christians” and will tell you that it is not what Christianity supports nor what Christ or the scripture taught.
As regards Eric Rudolph : Life, what a beautiful sentence.
Islam in itself promotes murdering people no more than Christianity does.
The reason there are more Muslim terrorists than Christian terrorists is because of our policies in the Middle East, where Islam is obviously more prevalent than Christianity. They don’t attack us because their religion dictates so. They attack us because they hate our policies, and use a twisted sense of religion to justify murder.
Tara, Can’t you see that “terrorists” are an Israeli invetion? We are killing Arabs and stealing their land and when they fight back, the Israelis call them “terrorists.” That’s how the Israelis milk money and sympathy from us. And murder to their evil heart’s content.
Nathan–don’t you have to go to basic training or something?
Just wondering . . .
Mister Twister, you are so right, most Americans just buy the spin and rehtoric rather than examining the underlying reasons WHY the US is a terrorist target. Like I’ve said before, until we seriously look at changing our foriegn policy nothing is going to stop the violence against us. There are many up and coming terrorists in training, and the flow will not stop until we quit sticking our nose where it doesn’t belong. Until we learn how to coexist with the other 200 countries on this planet without trying to mold their governments to serve our interests, nothing will change.
Ummm, I guess it doesn’t matter that mosques around the world are regularly used to preach the most vile hatred, used to incite violent jihad, and used to store bombs and weapons. Nothing Fred Phelps does even comes close.
Besides, mainstream Christians do regularly and emphatically clean house. Christians do condemn the occasional extremist cults who call themselves Christian. You almost never hear of muslims doing that. Are they afraid of terrorists or do they agree with them? The question has no answer, so we can’t let it matter. Either way, we can’t trust them.
Christians gave billions of dollars for tsunami relief in a region that is mostly muslim. Muslim countries gave less than a pittance, and then only after being shamed into it. By their actions, we must conclude that death and agony are goals of Islam, not peace.
Damoon, Muslims consider jihad to be a fully sacred duty – violent if possible, and peaceful only as long as they can’t dominate by means of warfare or terror. This is the underlying reason for their violence against us. Their claims to be a “religion of peace” are pure taqiyya. They will accept nothing short of 100% submittal to an Islamic caliphate as the condition that we may live in peace.
And some peace it would be — an 8th century wasteland ruled by despotic mullahs who use sharia as a weapon against the dignity of men and women.
There are lots of examples in the Middle East already. Pick the one you like best. I like Saudi Arabia – a fabulously wealthy country with every possible resource for doing good things for its people; but most of them not only live in squalor and hatred and fear, it has become Saudi Arabia’s main export.
Sorry, I don’t buy your “Muslims are all evil” bashing, it’s the extremists that we have to worry about. They’re not in this to overthrow our government or our way of life, they just want us the hell out of their territory. If the tables were turned, we’d all be “insurgents” and proud of it.
Why is it that 50lbs. of high explosives strapped to some guy’s chest is terrorism, and 500lbs. of the same stuff, dropped from an F-16, is homeland defense? I smell a propagandist!
Yeah, yeah, yeah . . . the radical fundamentalists like bin Laden talk about establishing a Caliphate. But that’s not why they fly planes into buildings.
Those Brits didn’t blow themselves up so Arabs could establish a Caliphate. They attacked what they saw as an occupying force.
What would we do if some Middle Eastern country occupied us with their troops (for our own good)?
Heh, get the picture?
BTW, you’re exactly right about Saudi Arabia.
So why are we Iraq?
I don’t know, why are you Iraq?
Twister, you clueless twit, just bend over and take it like a punctured pinko pincushion.
PINKO! Wow, hadn’t heard that one for awhile . . . Brother John Birch would be proud.
I’m not bending over for anybody. Better to die on my feet than live on my knees.
However I will bend over to let you kiss my ***
SMACK! Mmmmmmmmmmm.
Damoon,No, there may be some good muslims, but the problem is how do we know. The London bombers were thought of as good muslims. They hide their extremism in cloaks of quiet and kidman.
And there may be some good people in the military, but how do we know?
Rudolph, Tim McVey (Ok City bombing), Lee Harvey Oswald (JFK Assassin), John Malvo (DC sniper)–all vets. Hmmm . . .
Before you flame me, my intention was to point out how one cannot draw conclusions about a large group from a few examples.
I fully support the service people in our military, and honor them for their sacrifice.
Evil can exist in any political, social, or religious group, you shouldn’t judge everyone based on the actions of a few. The majority of Muslims want what we want, to feel safe and secure so they can live in peace and raise their families.
“You shouldn’t judge everyone based on the actions of the few.”
Perhaps you should apply that to your stereotypes of Men?
I’m taking about societies, religions, and political groups. I’m not talking about the neanderthal species that happen to inhabit the world alongside women. I’ll judge them all I want.(Just kidding, except for Nathan!)
