A zinger in The Eagle’s Opinion Line today (“I wish people would take an honest look at their feet before they put on flip-flops. Sandals were not made for everybody”) reminded me of this story in the Chicago Tribune last week, about some Northwestern University women’s lacrosse team members who caused a minor flap by wearing flip-flops to meet President Bush at the White House. The reactions revealed a deep generational divide, with older folks expressing horror and the young offenders noting these were not the dime-store variety but, in one case, rhinestone-studded. In any case, it does seem as if we hear that distinctive flapping sound a long way from the pool and the beach, including work and church.

Flip-flops are bad enough, but how about those low-rider jeans that every girl/woman feels she has to wear. Some of these gals really don’t need to show me their belly buttons surrounded by the rolls of flesh overhanging the waistband. Sort of puts the “butt crack” jokes of men to shame.
My first impression was that the flip-flips were a silent protexst regarding the switch in policy by the Bush Admin. NOT TO FIRE anyone caught having played a role in the outing of Plame. Too bad – it would have made a much more interesting story.
Well Rhonda is a known “bushie”. Her bit about even though Kerry lost “flip flops” enter the white house proves it.The White House is not a palace. It is not a royal court (even though bushies might seek to make it so) It is hot in July in DC. Some gals wore flip flops. Get over it! Heck, you oughtta be glad the whole team was willing to take a picture with bush. I would refuse to stand anywhere near him!
