Don’t be an idiot this Independence Day

Here’s an area ripe for scientific inquiry: Why do smart people get stupid when it’s time to shoot off fireworks? Is it too much patriotic zeal? Too much beer? In any case, area residents should try to heed local ordinances and exercise common sense over this long July Fourth weekend, especially when doing otherwise would put children, property and pets at risk.

    If you’re already an idiot, you do what someone did last night- Blast a baby in the face with a roman candle!As I drove home from the fireworks show last night, I saw and heard enough fireworks to put Bagdad to shame! Yes, I know it’s tradition, but it’s one that’s no longer feasable. We need to let it go.
