Billboard is a big fish story

Wichita motorists driving west on Kellogg might get whiplash if they see the billboard depicting a dog with a fishing hook in its mouth, along with the message, "If you wouldn’t do this to a dog, why do it to a fish?"
The animal-rights folks at People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals launched the ads as part of a nationwide anti-fishing campaign. The sign was taken down in Galveston, Texas, last year after numerous complaints. What do Wichitans think?
Here’s my thought: I’ll stop fishing when fish start running on land and catching Frisbees.

    That is so ridiculous!

Id like to tell everyone at PETA to join the food chain. Its natural. I dont believe its a sin either. It also tastes good.

I hope PETA comes to town with a demonstration. When they do, Im gonna go to WENDYS and get me a triple cheese with bacon and eat it right in front of their demonstration.

    Sigh…

At what point in your life do you have so little to do except take up a cause like this?

    I just dont get it…

These PETA people are psychopaths. Remember, they handed out a leaflet to children entitled “Your Mommy Kills Animals” (google it and see how extreme it is). Also visit petakillsanimals.com. Ridiculous. I’m a liberal but don’t ever lump me into the PETA category!

I look forward to a surf and turf dinner with my dad tonight.

Tells me that Wichita will advertise anything for the almighty dollar, no matter how crass it is. Bad form Wichita Advertisers!

Catchy visual though. But it would make a bigger impact if the baited hook was taxes and the dog was the American people.

PETA is extreme I will admit. But PETA is needed in a a land where people guffaw about eating tasty animals and generally regard animals as something that there is some sort of good in hurting and exploiting. Lunch might be a little less tasty with a PETA member, but I bet the conversation would be far more intelligent than with a gun nut.

Come on JR, have you really read what PETA is calling for? They want an end to ALL animal ownership including pets, medical research to save human lives, ranching, and even service animals like seeing eye dogs. They want an end to all hunting even though this would mean more animals hit on roadways and dying of starvation due to overpopulation. They go so far as to condone and even support bombing of test facilities and assault on individuals. Can you really support a group that is that radical? As for myself I remember there was a billboard for I saw in Canada that said “There is room for all of God’s creatures, right next to the mashed potatoes”

Appears to me to be a big stupid waste of ad space designed to pull on our little heart strings so we would never ever again dream of hurting a little fishy. GROW UP!!!!!!! Meat is meat. Whether you collect your own, grow your own, or allow the grocery store to make it real handy. I’ve used all three, for three totally different reasons. If you are one of those PETA types, then I challenge you to get rid of all meat and meat-products from your life. All leather goods, make-up, medicine, anything that has any ties to the “slaughter” on the innocents. I believe that is one of the PETA phrases. Then, maybe, if I am not hunting or fishing we could have an intelligent conversation.

As I posted before, I acknowledge that PETA is extreme. But I cite the other posts to this thread to demonstrate that the voice of PETA is relevant. Some folks seem to think that exploitaion and mis-treatment of animals is a good thing. It is manly somehow or inherently American. Such folks are worrisome and I am glad that PETA is there for balance.
