Getting a Web site that touts you for president is one thing. It’s quite another to get the millions of dollars necessary for a successful run. But anyone wondering how much longer it will be before the United States has a “Madam President” will want to take note of these Web sites: www.americanwomenpresidents.org, Americansforrice.com and www.hillarynow.com. That womanizing ex-Clinton adviser Dick Morris even has a book coming out titled “Condi vs. Hillary: The Next Great Presidential Race.” And Geena Davis plays the prez in an ABC drama this fall.
Whatever it takes to prep Americans for this inevitable step is welcome. Just don’t take too long. Some of us are way past impatience.

Rhonda, Since when haven’t you all been pullin’ our chain?
I doubt Rhonda is pulling ‘our’ chain. She consistently writes about elevating women without consideration of who that woman is. If a woman was on the ballot I bet Rhonda would vote that way without a second thought, even if it was for Mrs. Stalin.
Oh good grief, Reed. Get a grip. Why does voting for a woman threathen you so much?
I like Condi Rice. :) I would vote for her.
Dream on, Ms. Holman! It’s not going to happen anytime soon, as long as there are women in high offices who work to unroll the advances in women equality, like some certain senator in Topeka, I believe…
I sure hope Hilary runs in ‘08 o that the Republican party will win again.
Speaking of women, how about Elizabeth Dole as a candidate? I would vote for her.
I dont have a problem with the President being a female.
What I do have a problem with is the desire to see a femal in office regardless of competency.
I am for the best person for the job, not someone of the opposite sex solely because they are a female.
If the person is qualified and is the best candidate and a woman then I’ll vote for her.
What I will not do is vote for a female just becasue she is a female.
It’s time for a female president, men have mucked things up since the beginning of time. If only women were in charge of the world, there wouldn’t be war declared every other day. We don’t have this need to conquer lands, overthrow governments, and drop bombs on each other’s children. Maybe peace and common sense would rule for the first time in history. “You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one”.
While I like and respect Hilary, I don’t think she’s electable. I could vote for a woman. I think there’d be a lot more concentration on social issues, a welcome change from never-ending war.
Damoon,
You think that a woman (any woman) would be what you say?
And you base this on what?
On the fact that I’m a woman and I know from experience how most of us think. We are more evolved than men, making us superior in many ways, this is based on scientific evidence (wow, won’t that open the doors to some discussion!!).
Wow Damoon, you go, girl! But in this state, I wonder if scientific evidence will do you any good. The reference to evolution will drive em wild. Got any ideas for a good Madam President?
Believe it or not, I like Madeline Albright, she’s intellengent, gutsy, and very experienced in foriegn affairs. She also has a heart. But it’s not to be, she wasn’t born in the US.
I don’t really care that much for Hillary or Condi.
Any opinion on Christine Todd-Whitman? I know she’s a Republican, but I always liked her style. Barbra Boxer is kind of “out there” and Pelosi…well…
D.A, I need to learn more about the women you mentioned. I seriously doubt if the country will elect a woman in 2008, we’re just not quite there yet. I have lots of hope for the future. For the first time, there are more women than men going to college, and medical schools are about 50/50. We’ve made such great strides in the last 30 yrs!! I’m so proud. It’s a wonderful dream of mine that someday the most powerful country in the world will be lead by a woman!
Damoon,
Todd-Whitman was governer of New Jersey and also head of the EPA for a while under the Bush administration. Needless to say, she didn’t last long. Her ethice were too strong…
I strongly agree with what you said earlier about women not bombing eachother’s kids…I think we’ve got to find some other solution than blowing eachother up. I think electing a qualified woman to the presidency would be a good first step. I’m fortunate in that most of my female friends are strong, independent women…it’s been an education for me. Let’s hope that we see a Madam president in our lifetime.
Wow, Damon, more evolved? Which rib did we give you? (A little Kansas Christian humor, or KCH, there) Seriously, though, what “scientific evidence” are you referring too? I will admit that us men can be, and are, at times, Neanderthal, but that doesn’t necessarily make women “more evolved.” There are a whole slew of women out there that make us men seem like choir boys.
More on point: There are some excellent choices for a woman president out there, Hillary not being one, and I too hope we see one in the near future.
JM,There have been many clinical studies regarding gender differences, one documentary that does a great job in illustrating the study results is Desmond Morris’s “The Human Animal”. When I stated that women are more evolved, I was kidding, but I have worked in the psychiatric field for more than 20 yrs and from my work experience and the fact that I have raised both boys and girls, I do think in many ways women outshine men. In general we are more empathetic, compassionate, selfless, and intuitive. We anticipate the needs of others more readily, we have better hearing and smell, we are more in touch with our emotions and we can think abstractly with more ease than men. We also have more developed verbal skills and better hormones, which is why we generally live longer.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not anti-male. I have 2 sons and I’ve been married for 35 yrs to man I love a lot. We’re just different in a lot of ways, which is another thing, women tend to be more accepting of those differences. I think a woman would add a new demension to the presidency of the United States. I wish we could run the entire world, it would probably be a much nicer place.
PS God didn’t make woman from the rib of a man, He just finally got it right after he made the test model!!
Damoon
I assume you have figured out my blog was tongue in cheek. I do applaud the fact that you recognize the fact that males and females are indeed different. Although I think there are many of both sex that have the capacity to rule in a humane fashion.
I would love to see the right female as President. I know the last three male types have been anything but evolved. The main problem we face now is the fact that most Middle East countries would have a very difficult, if not impossible, time dealing with a woman leader. The Middle East, Muslum led countries exploit weakness, so a woman leader that exhibits an “I feel your pain” attitude would be laughed at. Sad, sorry truth, but truth nonetheless, and a real obssticle to controlling terrorism. Sometimes breaking things and killing people is the only way to end conflict (not this Iraqi war, though).
Unfortunetly, it’s still a male dominated world. And women running the entire world is something we will never see in our lifetimes.
The one thing I have noticed, from my own experience, is the fact that a woman is less likely to forget a transgression than a man. That would make compromise a little more difficult, doncathink?
JM, Good point! Learning to “forgive and forget” is something us girls could work on! I agree, we’ll never see women in charge of the world in our lifetime, it’s a nice dream, though. I’m just so thankful to have been born in this country where we have so much opportunity. John Lennon once said “Woman is the nigger of the world”, I think that’s still true for most of the world, but it’s getting so much better here at home.
I don’t understand why it takes “millions of dollars” to run for president. Ad campaigns, touring city to city, of course takes money. But with the internet, why couldn’t a woman be the first to campaign online? Have a chat room to talk to constiuents? Feel the pulse of the nation? Millionaires don’t seem to have any idea of what concerns middle to lower class people. Money shouldn’t matter, but voters have made it that way. I know, not everyone has a computer, but they are made available in libraries and other places. Just some rambling thoughts.
Great Idea!!!!
DD, you hit the nail on the head. With a explosion of weBlogs, your idea just might become the wave of the future. I, for one, would love to see some multi-millionaire cracker downed by some dime store humanist. The playing field does have a chance to be evened, so long as congress doesn’t screw it up like they usually do.
Just think; “Madame President”. Has a nice ring to it
