I didn’t support tax breaks for Genesis Health Clubs when the Wichita City Council originally approved them last year. But having made that commitment, the council should have honored it, rather than backtrack as it did Tuesday. Companies and their financial lenders need to know that they can count on the city to fulfill its written promises.

Councilman Carl Brewer was the only City leader who voted against the Genesis proposal earlier this year. Its nice to see Fearey and Martz following the real leader on our Council. Mayans, Skelton and Gray just smell another political campaign, and Stevens Family contributions.
Won’t they just give all businesses tax breaks, then we will not have an issue on favortism or businesses that don’t deserve it as some people say.
In my view, Businesses do not pay taxes. They occur the cost that taxes place on them and they forward that to the customer. Making the customers or clients pay for the tax.
If Genesis doesn’t get its tax break, then thats fine, they’ll just bump up the price of their membership.
I’ve never seen a City Council, so unable to make a decision, that doesn’t “Blow Up” in their face, such as this one.
They finally retracted their earlier decision and revoked the windfall to Genesis Health Club; which, should never have been granted in the first place.
Stay tuned for the next debacle!
