With about 3,300 employees, Boeing Wichita’s military plant is important to this community. And today, it will unveil its new name. But let’s hope it is something cooler sounding than Mid-Western Aircraft Systems or its current name, the Wichita Development and Modification Center. Who came up with those names? Aircraft engineers?

No, it was Canadians. But you’re right, the names are quite vapid. They’d do as well with “Generic Parts Corp.”
Agreed. My suggestion: ‘Outsourcing R Us.’
CF,
Another good name!
Outsourcing is the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen in the business world. Our excessively overpaid busines leaders can’t figure out how to be competitive without giving our work and hard-earned know-how away to sweat shop countries. Meanwhile, Japan builds its factories here and walks away with the market.
Productivity is the key, not cheap labor.
So many successful businesses are just generic names. Either that, or it’s somebody’s last name.
One name comes to mind if Pizza Hut. That is about as generic as you can be, but it is such a household name, it doesn’t registar as corny or generic.
The cool names come from acroynms that spell out to words. I think a cool name would be: Wichita Aviation Transport Modification Operation or WATMO.
:)
Boeing Integrated Defense Systems “BIDS”….isn’t that rather appropriate considering the ethical issues that Boeing has had with the bidding process…lol
