It was clever of several American Indian tribes to offer the state a quick $150 million to allow three off-reservation casinos in Sedgwick and Wyandotte counties and southeast Kansas, because that would cover the Supreme Court’s school funding mandate. But legislators are unlikely to bite, especially with state revenues on the rise. And up-front cash to the state seems unlikely to soften the inexplicable resistance of Wichita area officials to the Park City casino proposal. Just what would it take?

This is Kansas Rhonda ! Do you know how long it took to get liquor by the drink? We have beer, boats, & ballgames to entertain us and preachers to tell us how to vote !
The Indian tribes are gambling for a chance to place three destination casinos in Kansas. Ha ha ha! I think that is ironically funny! You can say the ‘House’ has the odds in their favor; yet another year will pass with no expanded gaming.
Gambling is bad and you cannot gamble your way to prosperity, say the opponents. Well, I guess that means we can get rid of the Stock Market, since people gamble their money there everyday.
Oh no no no. Where would the republicans put their 4% of social security ?
Isn’t there some other way we could come up with the needed money instead of just taking it from people who only want to build casinos? I’m sure there is a little fat that could be trimmed somewhere to cover the school funding issue. I’m not against gambling, but there has to be a better way.
Maybe if the state didn’t waste money on things like “Kansas as big as you think” and the commercials that came with it. $700,000? Give me a break. Or, perhaps we could stop giving tax breaks to big corporations who then only give the people the short end of the stick by laying workers off, moving operations, etc.
Destination casino? Odd name. What they offer is Monopoly Casinos. Remember why monopolies are illegal in this country?
Gambling is here to stay! You can argue about it all you want, it does not change the FACT alot of people go to the casinos. Every bus line offers casino specials, most airlines offer casino specials, all your travel agents offer casino specials. If you haven’t noticed these are all designed to take people away to spend their money elsewhere. Why not allow casinos on privately owned land and put the tax money to good use?
