The heat wave that has clamped down on much of Kansas over the past week has one last day left in it before a cool front arrives to break its grip.
Highs today should reach the upper 90s in Wichita under mostly sunny skies, forecasters say. South winds in the teens will gust to more than 20 miles an hour.
A chance of showers arrives after midnight, with lows only dropping to the low to mid-70s. Thursday offers a good chance of showers and thunderstorms, forecasters say, with highs near 90. Southerly winds will be pretty light, occasionally pushing into double digits.
Rain is likely again on Friday, forecasters say, with highs in the mid-80s.
