Wichita hits 100 for the first time this August

Wichita hit 100 on Friday.

Well, actually, the high was 102.

That may seem like no big deal. It is August, after all.

But it’s a big deal for this August, which hasn’t logged a single 100-degree day all month with little more than a week to go.

Friday’s 102 is only the fourth triple-digit day of the year for Wichita, which averages more than a dozen a year. Another 100-degree day is possible Saturday, forecasters say.

But cooler temperatures aren’t far off: forecasts are calling for highs in the mid-80s by later next week.
