Wichita weather: Sunny, windy and cooler

The cold front that brought robust winds and snow to a wide swath of Kansas Tuesday delivers cooler temperatures to the Wichita area today, forecasters say.

Highs are only going to reach the low 50s under sunny skies, which is about 20 degrees cooler than on Tuesday before the front rolled through. The winds, which hit 55 miles an hour in Wichita Tuesday night, will still have some heft out of the north, forecasters say. Steady north-northwest breezes will push into the low 20s, while gusts top 30 miles an hour.

The winds will finally ease Wednesday night, dropping to the low teens as the temperature settles in the low 30s, forecasters say. Temperatures should rebound nicely on Thursday, vaulting into the upper 60s under mostly sunny skies.

They’ll be helped by hearty south-southwest winds in the teens on a steady basis and in the mid-20s in gusts. Friday and Saturday are likely to be in the 60s as well, forecasters say.
