Wichita weather: Warm and windy

Wichita can expect another batch of 60s today – and plenty of wind to go along with it, forecasters say.

Highs should reach the low 60s under mostly sunny skies, with south winds in the teens intensifying in the afternoon into the 20s. Gusts could approach 35 miles an hour at times.

Overnight lows will only drop to the low 40s tonight, forecasters say, with clouds moving in to prevent more of the day’s heat from escaping the surface. Winds will remain hearty out of the south, blowing steadily in the teens and gusting to more than 25 miles an hour.

Thursday appears poised to offer another round of 60s for the Wichita area, forecasters say, with skies remaining mostly cloudy and south winds easing to single digits.

A cold front arrives overnight Thursday, forecasters say, sending temperatures plummeting into the 20s for lows. There’s a chance of drizzle, with north winds in the teens and gusting to more than 30 miles an hour.

Friday will be clear and cold, forecasters say, with highs in the low 30s. Snow is expected over the weekend in the Wichita area, so stay tuned for updated forecasts.

Early indications suggest Wichita could receive 2 to 4 inches Saturday night and Sunday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
