Dense fog advisory until 10 a.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a dense fog advisory until 10 a.m. for 17 counties in southern and southeast Kansas, including the Wichita metropolitan area.

Visibility will vary significantly over short distances, according to the agency. A dense fog advisory means visibilities will frequently be less than a quarter of a mile.

Expect clouds to linger through the day, with a slight chance of showers late in the afternoon. Chances for showers and thunderstorms increase significantly late in the evening.

Wichita weather: A stormy few days

Showers and thunderstorms – some of them strong – are in the forecast for the Wichita area over the next few days, forecasters say.

Patchy fog is possible in the metropolitan area Monday morning, with highs climbing later into the mid-70s. Winds will also climb, gusting to more than 25 miles an hour out of the south.

Forecasters say those winds will bring moisture up from the Gulf of Mexico to fuel storms this week. It’ll be mostly sunny early in the day Monday before clouds move in, bringing with them a chance for rain, forecasters say.

Lows overnight will barely duck below 60, with showers and thunderstorms likely. South winds will only ease a little, still reaching 20 miles an hour at times.

Tuesday will see more showers and thunderstorms, forecasters say, with some of them packing strong winds and hail late in the day. Highs are expected to reach the mid-70s, with south winds in the teens and gusts topping 20 miles an hour.

Overnight lows Tuesday into Wednesday will settle in the low 60s as chances for showers and thunderstorms persist. Morning showers are possible again on Wednesday.
