Wichita weather: Morning frost, then sunny and nearly 60

A frost advisory is in effect until 9 a.m. for a half-dozen counties in the Wichita region and points north until 9 a.m. today.

Counties included in the advisory are Sedgwick, Sumner, Cowley, Harvey, Saline and McPherson, according to the National Weather Service.

Once the day warms up, south winds will gust to more than 20 miles an hour as temperatures climb near 60 under sunny skies, forecasters say. Overnight temperatures will be warmer – in the upper 40s – and the weekend should offer pleasant weather, with highs in the 60s.

Forecasters say there’s a slight chance of showers on Saturday morning.

Wichita weather: Temperature roller coaster takes another plunge

After basking in the low 70s and upper 60s the past couple of days, Wichita will feel the chill of the 50s with a dash of north wind as a chaser on Thursday.

Those winds will not be gusty, forecasters say, but still could reach double digits under mostly cloudy skies. Overnight lows will dip into the low 30s – near freezing – which means patchy frost is possible early Friday morning.

Friday is likely to offer more 50s, forecasters say, with mostly sunny skies and winds flipping around to the south but staying light.

The weekend should be warmer, with plenty of sunshine and highs in the 60s.
