After record temperatures on Sunday, Wichita and the surrounding area will endure more sizzling heat today, forecasters say.
Highs on Sunday reached 101 in Wichita, tying the record for Sept. 8 from 1985. Russell, meanwhile, hit 102, topping the record of 100 set in 1990.
It won’t be quite that hot today, forecasters say, with highs only reaching the upper 90s. South-southwesterly winds will be in the teens, with gusts leaping near 30 miles an hour.
Overnight lows will settle in the low 70s, with southerly winds easing only a little. Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to see more sunshine and highs in the mid-90s before showers enter the forecast on Thursday.
