Wichita weather: Chances for rain continue as tropical pattern persists

Like an efficient assembly line, the “northwest flow” jet stream that is bringing front after front into the Great Plains will continue to generate chances for showers and thunderstorms over an already saturated region this week, forecasters warn.

Locally heavy rainfall is possible at times from central Kansas through the Wichita metropolitan area into southeast Kansas. Highs Monday and Tuesday will be in the mid-90s before temperatures cool to the mid-80s by later in the week.

Lows will be in the low 70s early in the week and upper 60s by Wednesday night and Thursday night.

Thanks in part to the humid conditions, the heat index could climb to 105 in parts of southern and south-central Kansas Monday and Tuesday, the National Weather Service warned.
