A heat advisory remains in effect for the Wichita area most of today as the hottest stretch of the young summer continues.
The advisory won’t expire until 8 p.m. today, according to the National Weather Service. A second straight 100-degree day looms for the metropolitan area, forecasters say.
Wednesday’s high in Wichita was 101 and today could be hotter still. Sunshine and south winds touching double digits will help hoist the heat index to about 107 later today, forecasters say.
Anyone working outside for very long should take frequent breaks and drink plenty of fluids.
Showers and thunderstorms are possible overnight, forecasters say. That will help cool things down on Friday, when highs top out in the mid-90s.
