Summer’s going to sizzle in the Wichita area over the next couple of days.
Temperatures are expected to reach triple digits today and Thursday, forecasters say. Highs could reach 101 today in Wichita, with sunny skies and light south winds.
The heat index – a measure of what it feels like outside – could reach 105 in central and southern Kansas in the afternoon. Overnight lows will settle in the mid-70s with light southerly winds.
Thursday could be even hotter, forecasters say, with highs reaching 102 or so. The heat index could again climb to 105, thanks to southerly winds that will climb into double digits.
Wichita has only had one 100-degree day so far this year – back on June 12.
Another chance of isolated thunderstorms arrive late Thursday night and early Friday.
